I reserved a satellite phone with Kodiak Kamps on 4/3/when it appeared my other means of remote communication fell through prior to a backcountry tripOn the morning of 4/7/16, a couple hours before leaving, I learned that I did have another remote contact option available so I called to cancelThe person I spoke with told me it was a 50% cancellation fee since I was cancelling within hours of my rental dateIt wasn't as though they missed out on months (or even one week) of rental opportunities based on my reservation, but I understand business is business and they have to draw the line somewhere, so no big dealI cancelled thinking at least I'd save half my moneyUpon my return home, I recieved a receipt in the mail showing I was charged the full amount and a note saying to check their cancellation policy on the web siteI checked the web site and it indeed says non-refund within days, but had I been told it was completely non-refundable when I called, I would have jus

Tried to book a raft for a 1/day float trip KKamps charged for days due to inability to rent raft for partial days This makes sense but when I called back to ask about this the owners wife who runs the shop gave me an F.Uattitude I felt very uncomfortable with the aggressive attitude and asked if I could cancel the reservation I was told my cc was charged and I would lose 50% because we were within days and she hung up the phone I called back to get VMThere isn't much competition in town but do your research because there is a new outfit starting out and Kodiak Kamps is the last company you will want to deal with

Thanks for the opportunity to explain our position in this complaint. Kodiak Kamps is a small two person business that consists of my wife, Kim P[redacted] and myself. We do not hire any employees so any contact with a customer is dealt with by Kim or myself. We have been running Kodiak Kamps for nine...

years now and enjoy a high percentage of return clientele. Our policies are published on our web site and have been in place since our business was purchased. When Mr. [redacted] called to cancel the sat phone that he had booked, the notice was so short that I had already delivered the phone to the Air Service that he intended to fly out with. Mr. [redacted] was told of our cancelation policy and was invited to take a look at our website which spelled out the policies. We have a 50% cancellation fee on most gear but 100 percent when the gear is already delivered. In addition our sat phones are non refundable with less than 30 days notice. We have cancelations every year as part of our business and every client is given the same information. This is the only complaint we have received so far as most of our clients understand our cancelation policies and find them the norm for our type of business. As far as I know other than the initial call from Mr. [redacted] there was no  further attempts on his part to explain the reason for the short notice cancellation or any discussion about what he felt was fair in this situation.Thanks Again,Dan D[redacted]Kodiak Kamps
