Not only did we do the roof work that we billed for but his insurance company has already paid Mr. [redacted] and agreed with our invoice.  The chimney on the proposal was merely a mistake, once we learned that work was done we made no qualms about removing that work from our to do list.  We have over 10,000 roofs damaged in Spokane alone from the November wind storm and are doing our best to get everyone what they need.  You'll note our invoice makes no mention of billing to repair the chimney.  The check the insurance company sent him was a joint check made out to [redacted] and Kodiak Roofing.  We received this email on 09/19/2016 (please see attached). "Hello, FYI:  We have paid the full cost of the tear off, in which the policy holder has received those funds (in full).  For the additional amount owing over what was already paid, we listed your name on the draft as well.  Thanks [redacted]"
At this point if Mr. [redacted] does not pay the bill agreed on by him before we began the work and the insurance company already paid he could face insurance fraud claims.  We have been doing our best to keep them appraised of what's going on.  Mr. [redacted] has been paid and needs to pay us.

Good morning   The company came out to my home on 08/30/2017 and repaired the siding issue. Thank you,

We contacted the homeowner immediately upon seeing this complaint and we will be there today to address the issue.  He seemed content with the solution.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: A lot of what Mr. [redacted] is saying is true. There was existing rot on my soffit material, however any competent roofer knows not to step on the eaves, but stay on the trusses, this damage could have been prevented with a little due diligence. When I terminated service with [redacted] he didn't bother asking why, instead he assumed it was related to the timeline. That is not the case, I fired them when it became apparent that he was attempting to commit fraud. [redacted] intentionally changed the wording of an $850 line in my insurance appraiser's worksheets from 'masonry bid item' to 'masonry chimney flashing' . Upon discovering this I did a little further digging to learn that he

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
Yes [redacted] Insurance added to the amount of the actual cash value payout and included Kodiak Roofing Company Inc on the check. They did this in response to a complaint I made  with the office of the insurance commissioner. The insurance company doesn't care  what the contractor charges as long as it fits in the guidelines of their third-party appraiser. As I have said before I refuse to pay a falsified invoice, I do have pictures I do have proof I do have evidence. They did not tear three layers of roof off of my garage and carport. There was only one layer. They did not remove cedar shakes for my garage, it never had them. The original wood boards on my garage are still there with OSB on top And one lazily placed layer of tar paper on top of that there is no ice and water barrier yet it's on my invoice. They did two and a half days of work here  they tore off  they resheeted, they put up tar paper . When we had that rain storm last Saturday I had significant leaks, and I've had a new roofer up their to fix it, and to provide a realistic estimate for the work they did. Because I had to fire them after learning of their unethical behavior, I have had to start the waiting process over. This is unacceptable [redacted] is still trying to deny this stuff even after being called out, that is perfect evidence of how brazen he is. This has caused so much stress for us. I refuse to let him get away with this!

These claims are blatantly false. We started Mr. [redacted]’s roof go on the assumption that is was a three layer tear off which is what his insurance company told us.  In the course of the work we discovered that it was actually a four and five layer tear off.  Upon this discovery we...

agreed to help Mr. [redacted] by re-submitting the proposal to the insurance company using their exactamte program and helping him get the most money back possible.  We did everything in the perimeters of the insurance guidelines.  We have never committed insurance fraud and have not done so now, not only is this claim untrue but it is slander.
It turned out that Mr. [redacted] had rotted soffit, we discovered this was not due to the storm and he would have to pay for the additional charges himself.  We spent countless hours helping him research and look for the correct soffit to match his existing product and even attempted to personally make it for him at no additional charge.
The only time Mr. [redacted] made a complaint was when some debris got into his attic.  We explained that this was common when dealing with a skip sheeting tear off but that we would be happy to come clean it out.  He said he had already cleaned it and would charge us for his time.  No matter how hard you try you cannot avoid having a mess with a new roof, especially one with 5 layers, we were never given the chance to clean up.
The soffit is what held up the job.  Both he and I spent time looking for a correct match but it couldn’t be found.  The roof could not be completed until the soffit was repaired.  This is what held the job up, not our work.  It had nothing to do with us.
Before leaving out of town, we agreed to dry in the roof completely and finalize the project when I returned.  However, without any further discussion he said he decided to go a different route and asked us to remove all our stuff and leave the job which we did immediately.  The last conversation we had was very cordial.  This is the first time I have heard any complaint from him.  We completed the hard part of tearing off the roof and doing most of the sheeting before he changed his mind. It did take us some time to finalize the bill for the insurance company since we had not intended to have to break it down for a partial completion and provide additional pictures.  Had we not been fired unjustly this process would have been much quicker.  If Mr. [redacted] takes us to court, we will have no problem proving that we worked within an ethical boundary and that we deserve to be paid for the work completed.  To date no payments have been received from Mr. [redacted] or [redacted].

Review: I am the president of the [redacted] at [redacted]. On 8/20/2012 the Association contracted Kodiak roofing to reroof our condominium flat roof. On Oct 1, 2012 the roofing project was completed and Kodiak was paid in full for the work. Kodiak gave us a 10year labor warranty and a 20yr material warranty. On Dec 21, 2012- there was water leaking from the scuppers back to the outside building siding and also noticed water leaking down interior building wall. Kodiak was called- no answer- left message about issues.Jan 2,2013- called Kodiak again left messages with receptionist and [redacted](Kodiak sales manager) cell.Jan 3,2013- [redacted]( Kodiak sales manager)came out and documented issues/took pictures. Stated when weather improved Kodiak would repair issues.Mar 4, 2013 through May 21, 2013- Left many messages/certified letters requesting repair date. Promises made and passed.May 21, 2013- Kodiak came out and refitted scuppers. Reviewed water leak issues on interior walls. No decision on repair of this issue, at an impasse on cause.May 23,2013- discussed water leak with long time tenants- they stated issue of leak on interior walls did not start until after new roof installation. May 23-June 13,2013- Called and delivered letter to [redacted](Kodiak owner)through office and phone messages asking for resolvement of issue. No response.June 13, 2013- Filed complaint with Revdex.com -Desired Settlement: Requesting Kodiak to seal interior courtyard cap liner to building on the interior courtyard side with termination bar (to eliminate the possible leakage at this point). To inspect all areas of the roof, seams, etc, that may be causing this interior wall leakage problem and if found to repair. To have a date certain within a month of this complaint to complete this work. To uphold their warranty guarantees on all future issues.

Response:

Currently we are in the process of hiring a independent contractor to evaluate the roof. We have worked with Mr. [redacted] as he stated to no satisfaction. The issue he is

referring too, we feel, has nothing to due with our workmanship or installation procedures. However in the an effort to meet with his satisfaction we are willing to have the

Kodiak was absolutely great to work with. They had a large supply of available materials, great samples and a thorough knowledge of our needs

The owner was great to work with and the guys that did the job were courteous, knowledgeable, and hard working

I would use them again or recommend them to anyone needing a quality roofer

Do not use this company; they have lied to me to many times I cannot keep count. They had a job that I was told would only take 3-4 days and it took them 2.5 months. It was that long because they would say they are on the way but never showed or somehow the materials were not ordered right, (the weather was never the problem). The roofer that did show up closed up my main bath vent, also cut a skylight in the wrong spot and said it could not be fixed (the other roofer on the job did move the skylight but now I have to repaint walls instead of just the ceiling), drip line, panels, skylight curbs, skylight glass (scratches and was leaking), holes from putting panel in wrong (whole side of house), ridge line had to be redone twice because it was installed the wrong way (yes that is the whole roof system redone at least twice in most areas), they did not know they needed to put a copper wire from my roof to the foundation and they broke the frame of my new windows from piling the trash up against it, I had a grocery plastic bag full of cut metal, screws and trash that was left ON the roof after they said it was all done and finished. My roof looks like a handyman did it which I would have been ok with if I got the handyman’s price. The when placing metal panels on a pitch roof the top piece should be over the bottom so when it rains the water will run down but they have it that the bottom covers the top so there is a ridge that water can seep into (lots of caulking when I showed them that and they said it will be find), on the curbs around the skylights there is no straight cut but looks like a wave and looks like crap. My drip metal around my house is screwed in different places so it is warped and bubbled. I see my roof every day and think these guys screwed me over. If you would like to see what a great job they did I am more than happy to send pictures. The last straw was they needed to get a permit and have it inspected, I waited 3 months after the roof was finished (Aug) for they to do it and after a week of trying to get Jade to tell me if it was inspected he quit contacting me. If you hire these guys they will tell you how they can’t be at your house because of: broken trucks, wrong materials, no show, out of town, forgot, stuck in traffic (whole day), weather (clear sunny skies no chance of rain), bad roofer (Jade told me he had 7 complains about the roofer not doing his job and fighting with customers before he sent him to my house), will not return phone calls, texts, or emails until you threaten them with kicking them off the job. If you think I am making this all up I am more than willing to send you my email and text messages. I am trying to let everyone know these guys will lie and take your money and hope you don’t get on your roof to see the mistakes.

Review: To the Revdex.com

We had [redacted] from Kodiak roofing come to our house to do an estimate for the roof of our garage. While He was here he told us the permit cost was $250.00 and the price for doing the garage roof was $3500.00. On 6-19-14 Mr. [redacted] returned with this proposal, at this time we asked about doing the roof on the house, He said the roof of the house was in need of repair and explained that another permit would be needed when we wanted to do that. At that time we couldn’t see paying 500.00 for permits, so we decided to do both roofs at the same time. We set a date of 6-25-14 and 6-26-16 to have the work done. On 6-24-14 at about 5:00 pm we heard a commotion on the roof. When we checked it out we found 2 men climbing around up there and only after being confronted did we learn that they were from Kodiak roofing, who weren’t even supposed to start the job till the next day. The roofing crew showed up about 7:00 am the next morning and started work on the roof, no apologize for scaring my wife or my grandson the night before. At about 12:30 they stopped working as they had no roofing materials to put on the roof. On 6-26 the crew foreman said it looked like it might rain and He wasn’t working that day!!! And they did no work on 6-27 due to rain. They screwed tarps and boards down to the roof and my roofs leaked every time it rained. We were told that the foreman had 9 kids and he would not work in the rain. We were also told that the foreman’s wife was pregnant and was in a car accident. The Owner Mr. [redacted] swore that barring thunder and lighting his crew would be out there working on the 6-27-14 but no showed up. They finally showed up to work on 6-28-14 they did shoddy work that my neighbor said looked like crap. After several call to Kodiak they finally brought another crew out to repair all the stuff that the first crew screwed up. I have repairs that still need to be completed, I call but no one answers the phone. I have repeatedly asked for an itemized bill, warrenty paper work, a contract(signed) ON 7-10-14 I received a registered letter, it was a “notice of intention to file a mechanics lien” against my house, even though the repairs are not finished!?!?!?! The chimney on my house has 4 different colors of chaulking on it paneling on the garage is broken when they tried to remove them. On the 18th of July I received another letter saying he going to be out of town but that he should be back on Monday the 21st but he still doesn’t call or answers his phone. The attitudes of the Kodiak employees, he mistreatment of my vehicles, and other property being kicked around. The crappy work performed and the out-right lies told to myself and my wife. All of this is not necessary. I don’t like being Lied to or threatened.Desired Settlement: For the owner to have some integrity, adjustment of the bill, a warranty and to finish the job CORRECTLY

Response:

We installed the roof at [redacted] as requested

by [redacted] and [redacted]. From the beginning

this project has been a nightmare.

They've insulted me and my employees. Mrs. [redacted] called us liars. We have met every request they have made and

only have two minor cosmetic corrections left, however I know that no matter

what I do they will not be satisfied and I feel they have no intention of

paying for the work done.

Their complaint that we didn't finish the roof when they

demanded it is absolutely true. It did in

fact rain both days that we stayed off the roof with lightening and high

winds. I will not at any point put an

employee in danger to satisfy a customer, which I explained to them. Our employees are fathers and husbands. They are family people and their lives are

just as important as the customer. I also

explained that if we started roofing in the rain in would leak into their house/garage

and cause further damages. We were there

because the garage was leaking in the first place.

We did no damage to their vehicle and in fact asked them

to move it before we began work. When it

got dirty we offered to wash it. Mrs.

[redacted] rudely asked me "are you going to bring your own water?" No

matter what solution I proposed it was not good enough. Even though this was in no way our fault I

offered to pay for their car to be washed but she just yelled in the background

that her husband made $15.00 an hour, I even offered to pay for that hour. No one ever kicked their property, threatened

them or otherwise insulted them. An

employee nudged one of their children's gates on the back deck with his foot

out of his way but was in no way malicious or harmful. Mrs. [redacted] has been rude to me and my

employees, she raised her voice, and she was condescending and impossible to

satisfy. I met with them several times

to discuss what they felt was incorrect and I maintained a reasonable demeanor

the entire time she was raising her voice.

I never argued with them. I offered solution after solution. Continually asking "what can I do to

solve this."

Their roof was put on to code and everything is complete

with the exception of two minor cosmetic items they are nitpicking which in no

way affect the roofs integrity. I've

been out there and met with them myself at least four times. Their demands and

complaints are endless and I have literally bent over backwards to try to

appease them.

It is company policy we do not provide warranties until

payment is made in full. It is one of

the few ways we can insure they pay us. I have all the paperwork ready for them

pending final payment which I let them know. We did send them a pre-lien notice which is

standard practice in Washington State.

It is not a lien. It is a notice that clearly states that if they do not

pay us we are entitled to file a lien which by law is our right.

I am more than happy to go make the final cosmetic

corrections they would like but I need to know they are going to pay me. I feel like they are just trying to get me to

lower their bill. The only money I will

take off from the bill is the amount for the car wash and the correction of the

permit. At the time we thought they were

in the county but as soon as we realized they needed a city of Spokane Valley

permit we lowered the price. When they

told me what their budget was I worked with them. They are paying $3,000.00

less then my normal company price. I threw

in removing gravel they needed to get rid of and dumping it for them for free

as well as some other boxes and additional trash. The

balance on their bill is $7,650.00 less the car wash.

I look forward to resolving this. Please call me with any questions ###-###-####.
