The client rented a storage unit at [redacted] Storage on May 9, 2012.  Upon execution of the monthly rental agreement, the client was offered insurance coverage for a nominal fee.  The client declined such coverage and was advised that [redacted] Storage is not responsible for...

any possible damage that would otherwise be covered under the insurance.The rental contract signed by the client clearly states: [redacted] Storage is not a bailee of customer's property.  [redacted] Storage does not accept control, custody or responsibility for the care of property.Client contacted [redacted] Storage in writing on February 25, 2016 after moving all of the personal items from the property.  Client requested a proration of rent as they had paid February'srent on 2/12/16.  In lieu of prorating 13 days of rent, the Company refunded her the amount of $96.34- the entire amount of rent for that period.With over 1,000 storage units, the vast majority of [redacted] Storage clients are satisfied with their experience.  At no point did anyone represent or state there was a "major rat infestation."  In fact with so many tenants, such an occurrence would be described by many, rather than one client.Because we have no access or control over what is stored within the units, it is possible that a pest may be brought in, inadvertently in a client's belongings.  Further, [redacted] Storage is serviced by two major pest control companies weekly.  Our rodent control firm services the property 3 days a week.  We are confident that no other self-storage company on Maui expends as much on preventative and proactive pest control services.In January 2016, the Maui County Department of Health Vector Control Inspector visited the property, as they occasionally do.  We received an excellent review for the condition and upkeep of our common areas, hallways, and facility overall in regards to pest control.  The inspector stated that [redacted] Storage continues to go above and beyond what is required to ensure a clean and secure environment.Based on the terms of the contract that was accepted and signed by the client, in addition to therefusal to provide insurance coverage for their belongings, we are unable to provide the compensation requested.
