Dear [redacted],We received a customer concern from you ID# [redacted] on 7/15/2016. Please see our response below. The customer complaint indicates (2) items which have not been resolved; these items include:1. Carpeting that was damaged by their (Korndoerfer Homes) contractors during repairs to floor...

boards.2. Repairing aluminum trim that’s located around front porch. With regard to item #1:We offered to replace the carpet that was damaged after the original vendor and a second vendor let us know it was unrepairable. Unfortunately, the original carpet was discontinued and a new selection would need to be made. The damaged area was in the upper hall and the entire 2nd floor is the same carpet selection, we notified the customer that it would be best for them to meet and select the carpet replacement of their choice for this area and replacing with like materials would be $500.On March 3, 2016 we offered:I can offer you a $500 credit to cover the loft area of the carpet; anything beyond this would be your responsibility. Please let me know if you would like me to issue the credit directly to you or if you would like me to send a PO to the vendor for this amount. On March 3, 2016 the customer responded that this offer was not acceptable. With regard to item#2:We are willing to have this repaired by 8/1/2016.Sincerely,Korndoerfer Homes

Review: I filed my original complaint against [redacted] windows REF Revdex.com comp# [redacted]. After several back and forth emails thru Revdex.com, [redacted]'S response is stated (quote): "We regret the inconvenience Mr. [redacted] has experienced with his windows, and have ordered additional weatherstrip to improve the drafts he has been observing. Our third-party inspector indicated the window may not have been shimmed tightly enough during installation to prevent gaps at the jambliners.

Regarding the condensation issue, it is also possible that the weather conditions in Racine may exceed the thermal performance ratings of the windows. This is not a defect, but simply an indication that THE PRODUCT IS BEST SUITED TO A DIFFERENT APPLICATION. We have done what we can to assist Mr. [redacted] in getting the maximum possible performance from the product under the circumstances.

Sincerely,

[redacted] Legal Department"

Here is the complaint/problem: Built a home in 2007 with Korndoerfer Builders in Racine, they installed [redacted] windows. I have had ongoing complaints with these faulty windows for 7 yrs now.(exact dates not on hand at the moment) For the 1st year or 2 I contacted the builder then they put me in contact with [redacted] direct for the next few years of complaints. Now I am back attempting to speak to the builder because that is where [redacted] said the "PROBLEM" is. I have no idea which [redacted] I was dealing with, but the email of the rep whose name is [redacted] is: [redacted]p@[redacted].com. I have (5) side by side double hunts & (1) single double hung window. In the winter ALL leak causing horrible drafts. I put up 3m insulator kit every year & have put plastic on the outside too in the past. The 3m has even POPPED/BURST due to wind gusts coming thru the windows! I have taken video & pictures and sent it to them (they claim they can't view all the videos) If I don't use the 3m wrap, I get inches thick of ice & frost on the inside..which has caused a horrible mold problem on the wood. [redacted] keeps sending me brochure on how to handle mold, condensation, etc and mass amounts of weather stopping to "rectify" the problem. NONE of which helps. Now they state the warranty expired after 2 years and they are wiping their hand clean of it..stating it is MY problem now. Even though I started with complaints way before the 2 yr warranty and nothing has been fixed. They also advised to run a dehumidifier in the WINTER (which is crazy- house I always dry in the winter) and to leave the blinds open all the time (why have blind?) to help with condensation. Well the 3m wrap helped with the condensation/ice forming on the windows...but we still have the DRAFT/WInd blowing thru our home!Desired Settlement: Replacement or Compensated!! I have had quotes from several different window installers who also stated these windows are not satisfactory for the weather conditions here in Wisconsin. I was told that these were bottom of the line "builder specials" . I paid appx $5000 for these windows in '07 and have had ongoing saved email complaints between both Korndoerfer & [redacted] over the past 6 years. The solution of changing the weather stripping every year or two to help with the drafts is stupendous. There is still a terrible draft even with NEW weather stripping. The wood on the windows is ruined and was advised just to bleach, sand and stain them all yearly. Also to run a dehumidifier in the winter months (my dehumidifier would NOT even turn on due to low condensation in the house!) Every spring and winter I have to take down & rehang my cellular blinds to make sure air circulates behind them...leaving a security issue in the winter (the blinds do NOT even cover my windows...large gaps to peer inside the house) Why should I have to do this 2 times a year? When I built I was NOT informed of these issues/upkeep and am not at all happy with the performance of these low grade windows that are NOT for this application as [redacted], the window manufacturer, states above. When I built I trusted the builder would use quality products in their homes. I was never offered "other" options. The builder himself stated to me that he has [redacted] windows. I bet money they are NOT the same same ones I have! I DO realize [redacted] has MANY varieties and being a 1st time builder and knowing the builder from high school and entrusted my home to him and his company, I have had 4 quotes from other companies ranging from $7500.00 to $10, 000.00 for 11 brand new windows that are for this WI climate/application. I wish I was offered an "upgrade" option at the time we built to have warmth and minimal upkeep windows. We are literally throwing money out the WINDOW with heating bills. The builder has said he doesn't want to communicate with me via email but when he told me HIS availability to call me - he never did...and still hasn't. Like I said, I have pictures, videos, and all emails over the past 7 years and this past winter was the icing on the cake...or on the snows! HELP. The company has not offered me any ADEQUATE replacement windows--just yards and yards of weather stripping to handle the problem- which it does NOT! I have in the mean time put $500.00 down on new windows from another local company...but am holding off installation until this problem is rectified! I want some toy of compensation from the $5000 I paid when I built for faulty windows . [redacted] even questioned the "install" (note the letter from them stating the window may not have been shimmed tightly enough during installation to prevent gaps at the jamb liners"

RE: Complaint [redacted]

Ms. [redacted],

Korndoerfer Homes has responded to the customers concerns in a timely manner through this entire process. We returned her calls and emails from January 23rd the next day and our service rep meet with the customer on January 29th. A representative from Jeld Wen had been to their home the day before (Jan 28) to install new weather stripping and caulked several windows which helped to reduce the window drafting. Jeld Wen also sent an email to the customer stating they would return when they received additional parts.

On Tuesday, February 19th a represenitive from Korndoerfer Homes called to speak to the customer as a follow up phone call. He was told that the service rep from Jeld Wen had called to set the above mentioned appointment (now that the parts had arrived), but the customer declined to set a meeting because they are convinced the windows need to be replaced. We have since spoken to the customer and recommended that the Jeld Wen service rep be allowed return to finish the work they agreed to do so it can be determined that the windows are performing to their proper standards.

The complaint also suggests that the windows were either incorrectly installed or are not suitable for this type of application. Neither of these statements are accurate and we plan to have our service representative present when the Jeld Wen rep comes back to discuss these issues.

We will continue to work with the Hutchinsons to resolve this matter and any related issues.

Sincerely,

Korndoerfer Homes

Where to start? Korndoerfer Homes will do anything to get your business, to get you to sign on the doted line. But after that it all goes down hill. I have never experienced such terrible customer service until now! Tony our expediter needs some major training in communication! You ask a question and get told to "check your contract" or "see my previous email." If I would have known that building a home was going to be this horrendous with Korndoerfer, I would have chosen a different company. In fact, our plan is to sell our home once complete and build with another company. This has been the worst experience of my life, and I absolutely mean that! Please, please, please look at different builders, do not build with Korndoerfer. I wouldn't even recommend Korndoerfer to my least favorite person.
