Windows in the a korndoerfer homes suck! They ice up in the winter. I was told because the house is so air tight that it does that. Then I was told to leave shades up one to two inches so air can flow. (DIDN'T WORK) When I went to check out Pella windows and asked about the kind we are looking at and was told they are the bottom of the line. I didn't want them to know we already had them so I could get an honest answer. So much for honesty with Korndoerfer homes. They are there to take your money and deliver crap.
My wife and I bought are NEW... Korndoerfer home with Pella Windows June 2015. During our first winter in the house we noticed sever ice buildup on the widows and frost on our master bedroom and pantry ceilings. We filled out are one-year warranty paperwork stating this, the ceilings were fixed after several attempts however, our widows still to this day are having major issues. They keep saying the humidity levels are too high which is bogus we run a dehumidifier all winter long; every time it had been tested it was 20%-30%. Through a lot of research and phone calls I am finding out that more than likely it is a design flow. My windows are set back 6.5 inches from the interwall which is not allowing for proper airflow. Also, my lovely Pella Widows are not designed for cold weather, ON TAPE, per Pella Windows. I am going to have an independent study done on my windows this winter to verify all of this. I bought my house in 2014 moved in 2015. I have been dealing with frost on the ceilings, ICE... inches thick on the windows, from the beginning. Both Pella and Kordoerfer have been out to my house multiple times throughout the years . Korndoerfer reinsulated the attic, Pella tried multiple fixes to their windows to no avail. They were here a couple of weeks ago three each from both companies, to look at the windows. They told me that new houses are wrapped too tight, can't breath and our humidity level is too high. It has never been above 35% in the winter and as low as 24% (nose bleeds) and that we would need to put in a new air system to help with the air flow. That would be like a car manufacturer building a car knowing it burns oil and selling it, knowing the fix. When the buyer notices it and calls them, they say the car was built with a specific part and in order to correct it, they would have replace it with an upgrade at their cost.
