*** *** came into my shop early on January 7th with her VW JettaHer complaint was
~t the check engine light was onWhile she sat in my office we performed a computer scan for faults,
diagnosed the problem and presented her with an estimate, which she agreed to and signedHer
mechanic boyfriend, ***, came and looked at the diagnosis and estiniate and agreed that it was ok to
proceedBefore they left, *** asked me to provide her with an estimate for replacing the timing
chains on her carShe had been told that it needed to be done because of the mileage on her car (
plus thousand miles)She also said she was having some kind of transmission problem and asked for
an estimate for that as wellThen she and her mechanic boyfriend, ***, leftWe finished her car later
that dayWhen she came to pick it up, she did not have enough money to pay for it So she called
*** to come over and pay the difference, which he didAt that time I gave her the estimates that she
requestedNever, at any time, did we diagnose any problems with the timing chains*** simply
stated that she wanted it done because of the mileage on her carSo we simply offered her an estimate
to do the jobNormally the transmission has to be removed in order to do a timing chain replacement
on her type of car, so I gave her a price quote to replace the transmission and added the difference to
do the chains while the transmission was outNormally the price to do the timing chains including
removing the transmission is around $1500, She told me that when she got her tax return, she would
call me to make an appointment to do the repairs
*** called me back shortly after the first repair we did and she said everything was fine, but she
had done some research on line and decided she did not need a complete transmission rebuild or
replacementInsteadshe wanted to replace the solenoids in the valve bodySo I got the prices on the
parts and labor and called her back with a new estimate for doing the timing chains for around
and the valve body replacement also around $making the total estimate to do both jobs for the
cost of $She said she would let me knowShe later called me and made an appointment for
February 11thShe told me she was going to rent a car and that we could have to days to do the
repairsI told her that was exactly how much time we neededI also explained to her, that because I
had never experienced any problems with her transmission while test driving the car and since there
were no fault codes to indicate any kind of problems, that this had to be her decision to do this repair
We never suggested or recommended to her to have this repair doneBecause her mechanic boyfriend
also agreed that this is what she wanted to have done, she agreed and signed the repair order
accordingly for $and left me a deposit of$During the course of the repair, we discovered
that one of the axle boots was ripped and that there was a breather hose crackedI called *** and
informed her of the extra repairsI even offered to give her the breather hose at my cost and only a
small labor charge on the extra work and explained that because the axle was already out of the car for
the current repairs; that now was the best time to do it; That it would cost less now rather than doing it
later after we put the axle base back in the carI told her that the extra cost would be around $
She agreed to the repair, but informed me that she would have to pay me later, because she only had
enough money to do the repairs she was already here forI told her okthat she could pay me laterWe
finished the car on the 4th day as promisedWhen she came to pick up the car, we showed her and her
mechanic boyfriend the timing chains and guides that we bad replaced explaining that they were very
worn and some parts were even broken and that her car could have suffered a major engine failure
That it had been a very good idea to do that repair when she didThe car was running smooth and
quietWhen it came time to pay the bill, she only bad $left to give meI explained that it was the
tax amount that made her bill a little higher than we estimatedI told her that because it was such a
large repair bill, that I would discount the difference of $to make the total bill $I just
wanted her to be happy*** signed the new repair order for the added repairs that she bad agreed to
pay for laterI gave her copies of every repair order and she and her boyfriend, ***, th~ed me and
left*** came by the next day and paid for ***'s other $repair, stating that he did not know
when she would have any extra money againHe again thanked me for repairing ***'s car
Several days later, *** showed up at my shop unannounced and after regular hoursShe said she
wanted me to listen to a noise in the engineI opened the hood and could not hear anything abnormal
She then asked me to go for a rideShe got in her car and she tore off like a race car driver~
accelerating very quicklyShe sai~ "did you hear that?" I still could not hear anything wrongI asked
her what kind of gas she usedShe sai~ regular." I told her that because the engine in her car was a
high performance model, that it required premium gas with octane and possibly what she was
hearing was engine pingI told her to bring the car by the next day so my mechanic ***, could
listen to itShe dropped it off early the next dayWe both listened to the engine but could not hear
anything strangeI called her and told her it sounds fine~ just drive itSo at this point I don~t
understand what ***'s complaint is or what she wantsI only know that we did the repairs that she
and her mechanic boyfriend asked me to do and that they were done correctly
I have made a complaint previously about my car repairs being shoddy in turn they had temporarily fixed the problem, I have been overcharged and had unneccessary repairs on the car advised by Kotters
I had the repairs done in March and my car is on the verge of break down its making a horrible noise and it runs like crapI spent over $dollars in March for repairs which the shop had stated my car would last another 160,miles if I had the work doneI thought I could pass this car down to my year old daughter knowing it would be solid for many years to comeI took my car in for a noise that it was making a rattling sound I brought in and *** the mechanic had told me that he could here the timing chain when he started the car upI told them ok I want to get it fixed and they quoted me a price of over $for the timing chain, when I picked up the car the noise was still there the same noise he said was the timing chainSo I was a little frusterated since I had paid them over $total in repairs and my car ran the sameI also had a shifting problem it shifted very rough (turns out I just needed to put better fuel in it) they had recommended replacing the tranny which they said it would be $I declined on that (I couldn't afford it) So I had them replace the selenoid on the tranny which I was told helps shift the tranny I am not complaining about this for I requested the change without diagnosticMy complaint is why didn't they advise me on just puttng better gas in it, that had fixed the problemBut they were money hungry and saw me as prey.I also spent another $in January for a repair that they first quoted me $and then when I went to go pick it up they told me $I have sent a demand letter to Kotters VW demanding $back roughly half backI am wanting half my money back for I cannot trust them with my carI had a gut feeling but I was trusting that they were ethical and honest, boy I was wrong
I paid cash so I would like cash but would also take a business checkI am requesting $for the shoddy repairs, and my car in worse shape now then it was when I brought it to them
