KraftWerks Automotive Reviews (%countItem)

I purchased a Volkswagen from KraftWerks, the owner ***, posted that this vehicle had no problems on FB Marketplace. While looking at the car, I noticed that the speakers of the car didn't work, he originally said that there was no problem with the speakers, but after I found a corroded amplifier under the seat, he admitted that this would most likely be causing the lack of sound from the speaker system. This was not mentioned before I drove to see the car. I was able to get the car to start and test drove the car. During the test drive, I smelled burning oil. When I took it back to him, I mentioned this and he said it was left over residue oil from a oil leak he had had repaired (a rear main seal). Which was the only thing he said he had to replace on the car. He also that he had recently changed the oil (less than 3 weeks ago). While we were talking about the car, his grandfather came by and assured me that he was retired car sales man and that this was a quality car. With this assurance, that the car had oil, and no major issues other than an amplifier that would only impact the sound of the car I agreed to purchase the car. After I purchased the car, I was able to drive it to Iowa City and parked it in my garage. The next day, the car completely wouldn't start and the battery was so dead that it didn't even attempt to turn over. On further inspection, there was no oil in the vehicle as well. I called *** who said there is no problem with the car and all the problems I was seeing were because of the amplifier. I visited the business and after conversation he agreed to fix the car, but later in the day he called and said he would take the car back. Later I was contacted by his grandfather Richard Scott who said he had been working in this business for more than 40 years and he was not responsible for the car. He said that I can't contact *** about the car anymore and they were not going to assist in any way. This ended my correspondence with them; they won't talk to me anymore.

Desired Outcome

Refund I feel since the car will not start and that the business claims they "stand behind our vehicles and our work" they should refund the money we paid for the car and take the car back. If this is not the case, they should pay for the repairs needed for the car (such as the oil leak they had assured was fixed) when we purchased the vehicle.

KraftWerks Automotive Response • May 01, 2019

The vehicle *** purchased was fully inspected and ready to go. He called demanding his money back. I simply asked him to have the car either towed back or taken to a shop to have it inspected and he denied both. I offered to come check out the car at his house as well. He was not satisfied with anything we could offer.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I did not deny KraftWerks's offer. After KraftWerks offered to have the car inspected or towed to the shop, I was contacted by the owner saying I would receive a call from his grandfather. The owner's grandfather told me that neither deal would be on the table and I was not to contact the owner, ***, in the futurethat the company would offer no solution or offer to compromise with me further. After this conversation, in order to see what was going on with the car, I had to take matters into my own hands since KraftWerks was refusing to continue correspondence with me. I had the car inspected for the oil leak that I could visibly see in my garage. I took the car to White Dog and they diagnosed a rear main seal oil leak which they quoted to be $1166 to fix with the diagnosis itself costing an additional $84.03. With this leak, the car should not have passed *** "inspection" was completed before the car was sold to me.

I then took the car to a mechanic who diagnosed the same oil leak and a timing chain problem. I have since had to pay to have the car fixed for both of these issues and many other problems have been uncovered (rusty drive shaft axle, steering column rack bushing, ect.)thus far, this has cost me $2310.15 (which I have an itemized invoice for.) This does not include some of the work that still needs to be done (including the amplifier which needs to be replaced). I was unable to drive the car until about two weeks ago, on April 26th when the car had been purchased on February 13th. During this whole time, I have had to pay for insurance on this car and registration for this car as well as spend countless hours talking to the mechanic and trying to resolve all the issues he has found.

I will not be satisfied until KraftWerks compensates me at least in some way for all of these repairs that have had to be made to the car. If the company truly stands behind their vehicles and work, they should pay for the repairs that have had to be made to make this car a drivable car. I have dated pictures showing that I was unable to drive the car during the first two and a half months of owning itproving this was not a quality car that was sold to me in any way and that this is how the car came into my possession. The invoice of all the repairs to date is attached as well as the initial diagnosis of the oil leak from White Dog.
