The customer came into the store on October 6th 2015. She had a diamond engagement ring and was requesting service. The ring needed to be cleaned and sized. In order to perform the requested services the ring had to be taken in. We sized the ring and and professionally cleaned it for this customer....

We were not asked to assess the stone as part of the requested service. The sizing of the ring involved the shank and at no time were any tools or heat used on the diamond. It is impossible to have physically cracked her diamond. diamonds have imperfections that are natural to the stone. We examined her diamond under 10X power and saw some white imperfections inside the diamond. We explained this to the customer that the internal imperfections inside the diamond. We also explained that those had been there all along, and they are called feathers. We follow a very stringent quality control process and each repair is checked and rechecked before it goes back out to the consumer. This customer did not inform us of the black staining on the prongs. our jewelers rhodium all white gold after the piece has been worked on. I have received business owners statement. In regards to being in business over 60 years, he should have known to inform me, as a customer, of any imperfections, feathers, or any discrepancies in the ring prior to taking it from my possession! Before I left the ring, the clerk at the counter I was speaking to, looked at the diamond through the eyepiece. At this time, I should have been notified if there was something wrong with the diamond. Even after I picked the ring up, I was still not notified of any discrepancies in the diamond. Only after I questioned the stained prongs and noticed the cracks in the diamond was anything explained to me. And when I mentioned the diamond was not cracked prior to sizing, the owner told me this was the original condition, which I know is not true. I noticed the difference in the stone immediately, and I have picture that attest to the stained prongs after sizing.
