Hello to whom it may concern,

First of all Heather contacted me through *** and was not even in town when I contacted her to install a new heater. She said she would be back by monday morning and we scheduled a time. I had to call her back to get her address because she did not fill out the *** request. I scheduled her in front of others because of her need for hot water. Then I went to schedule the delivery and none of the supply houses had 40 gallon water heaters, so I asked if she would take a 50 gallon instead of a 40 for the same price. Fifty gallon water heaters are considerably more expensive. So I showed up to install the fifty gallon water heater and someone had tiled up to existing water heater, effectively blocking off all of the combustion air needed from the bottom of the water heater. So I removed the old heater and got out my *** chipping hammer and went to work removing a bunch of tile so I could install the new water heater and allow it to receive the combustion air it needs from around the base. On a new water heater install I should not have to spend a bunch of time fixing someone else's mistake's because someone tiled to close to the water heater to the point I couldn't even set the new one without it falling into a hole. The old water heater had been inspected a few years ago and the flex connector on the gas supply was approved by the city of ***, so I continued to install the new water heater with the same gas line and fittings that were used to hook up the old one ( which is common). On a water heater install we should not have a bunch of re-piping to do with out added installation fee's. I finished hooking everything up and discussed having a inspector come look at it the next day. The next day I received a message from a new inspector for the city of *** that replaced *** , who retired, saying the flex connector was too long on the water heater. The flex connector (not hose) was 4 ft and could only be 3 ft. So I contacted the home owner and went over and replaced the hose with a copper gas line. As I was working the home owners boyfriend was talking to me and when I flared the fitting I forgot to put the nut on so I cut the pipe off and put the nut on it and re-flared the fitting. As I was working the boyfriend started mentioning that he thought the gas line would now be too short. I assured him it would be fine and hooked everything up. I sprayed all the gas fittings with leak detector and mentioned that the inspector would like to come back and check to see the changes. He said, "No problem, I will be around." The next day the inspector calls and say's he has a small gas leak on the top fitting where the boyfriend thought it would be too short. In the mean time I get a call from Heather *** saying how she is displeased with my work and how many times the inspector has been there and she wants money back. I had dropped everything twice to make immediate amends to her situation an was on my way over there when she called. Due to her disrespectful tone and the way she was demanding money back I advised her that she was being snarky and that I HAD ALREADY not charged her for the 50 instead of 40, the gas supplies, the chipping of tile, and all the other extra labor involved in making her hot water heater perform optimal. So I went over there and re-tightened the nut and the leak stopped immediately. I called for a re inspection left a itemized list of all the other things other shops like *** would have charged her for but I did not. I do not feel that I owe her anything, I feel like they are trying to take advantage of me.
