Failure to complete work. Not telling me why, or when he would be back. Saying he would come and not showing up. Not responding to my emails.In June 2014, I hired KTS Custom Cabinets to refinish the kitchen cabinets in my townhouse, put a mantel on the fireplace and three stained woods shelves on either side of the fireplace, add a stained wood cap to the half wall in the upstairs stairwell, and add a table-height extension to the kitchen island. It is now October 2015. CabinetsThe kitchen cabinets have been refinished but it took them several months and it was not until September 2015 that the final warped cabinet door was replaced. Fireplace MantelThe fireplace mantel is in place (this is the second one; the first mantel was replaced because of a large gap between the end of the mantel and the side of the wall on the left-side of the mantel). Because of the trouble that they have had getting the mantle to fit, a trim piece will have to be added around the top of the mantle to cover the damage to the drywall and the imperfect fit - but this has not been done yet. As well, the first mantel had two finished spaces for LED lighting recessed in the mantel, with the intention that a piece of glass will fit on top of each space so the light is directed upwards to highlight objects set on the glass. On the second mantel, these are raw unfinished holes. There are no holes drilled to accommodate the wiring for the lighting; my electrician has the lighting in place.Fireplace ShelvesThe shelves have been installed - three on either side of the fireplace. The holes that were drilled to accommodate electrical cords for electronic equipment have raw edges; there is no stain or taping to mask the holes. The fireplace and shelves are in an area which is deeper than the walls on either side (i.e., a bump out). The shelves should be even with the side of the bump wall. Three shelves are even with the wall while three shelves are visibly shorter.Cap for the Half WallThis has not been installed.Table-height Extension for the IslandThis has not been installed.I realize that the company encountered some technical difficulties they did not anticipate when they accepted the work. Because of the failure to communicate, I was not made aware of this until sometime later. I have tried to be as accommodating as possible by allowing them all this time to complete the work and agreeing to any site visits for measurements or installation. The contractor who installed the fireplace offered to "meet onsite to assist in any way as far as fitting the mantle and do what is necessary as far as stone etc." On June 18, I even offered to release the company from doing any further work.Technical difficulties can explain the time taken to finish the work, but it does not explain the failure to communicate or the failure to meet other commitments - like coming when they said they were going to come. I do appreciate that the owner made a commitment in May to give me a 25% discount due to the length of time the work is taking. However, it has been a year now and I want the work finished so that I can finally settle into my new home.[redacted]Desired SettlementI want all the work completed by the end of October. I want to be notified the day before they plan on coming [redacted]. I want them to come on the day that they say they are coming, and to do the work that they say they are going to do on that day. If they do not get all the work done on that day, I want them to email me that same day to let me know why they did not finish and when they will be back. I want them to honour their commitments. I want the work done to a professional standard.I watch my house key returned.
