This family enrolled in the program on 2/15/2014.  We explained the Kumon method to the child and the parent and nothing was misrepresented.  Detailed information on the program is freely available at the www.kumon.com and www.kumonbear.com.
The Kumon program prides itself...

on developing advanced math skill in students with a focus on fundamentals.  Consequently we do not start advanced topis such as algebra unless the student has mastered the pre-requisites.  To cover the ground that needed to be covered with this student would have taken time and this was clearly communicated.
The Kumon programs efficacy is predicated on commitment and regularity.  Unfortunately this student missed many center sessions and was unable to benefit from our coaching as well as we would have liked.
That said, we do not lock parents into a term contract.  Although this parent paid for six months, it does not imply that they are locked in.  Our policy clearly states that students can discontinue the program with 1 months written notice and are entitle to a refund of any un-utilized advance payment.
We make this process very simple.  All it takes is an email to [redacted]
We have checked our systems, and we have not received any cancellation notice from the family.
Although we are confident that we will be able to help the student, it will take time and we regret if anything we said created expectations that we would be able to provide a quick fix.
Based on this complaint, it is obvious that the family does not wish to continue with the program.  We will process the cancellation effective 5/31/2014 and issue a refund for the balance.

Review: The Kumon of Bear is not a tutoring a center as I was lead to believe. I signed up my daughter in March and paid $180.00 pro rate for the month. I then gave them a check for $672.00 for 6 months of service. All Kumon does is send home packets for my daughter to do everyday and the work is at a grade school level. My child is in high school. She needs help with higher math and I would have to pay for additional months at Kumon for her to reach the level of pre-algebra. They misrepresented themselves as a tutoring agency. I can give my daughter packets of sheets asking her to add 2+2 and 2x2. I feel as though I was ripped off and I want to be refunded my money for the 4 months that we will not be returning. That adds up to $448.00.

I need that money to send her to a company that actually tutors.Desired Settlement: I want to be refunded for the 4 months that my daughter will not be returning to Kumon. That is $448.00.
