Kurtz Monument Company Reviews (10)

The owner George seemed nice enough however was extremely difficult to reach when I wanted to makes changes or had questions. We would play phone tag for weeks. The staff was very rude when I called in and refused to answer my questions but instead told me George would call. The only time George would call was in the evening sometimes very late, like 10pm. I was told this was because he was out on sales calls. However, most of the time I am not home in the evening. I am home during the day. I requested that the he call during the day and his staff told me that would not be posssible. So I asked that the staff get the information from George to relay back to me and they would not. George was always pleasant but I feel that he failed to communicate to me the engraving process and therefore I didn't get what I wanted. Only once was I able to talk with George during the day and it was after the monument was done. He called to tell me it was done just as I ordered, that the oval was black, and to send the remaining balance. However, the monument I ordered was different than what I wanted. The oval inlay was to be black with white engraving but the oval is gray with black engraving. After sending in a picture and not hearing back from anyone I called in again. Darlene called me back and was immediately very defensive and angry, she talked over me and interupted me, she did not listen to my concerns and was extremely rude. I understand now why the oval looked gray instead of black but her attitude was that it was my fault for not conveying what I wanted and tough luck, so sorry, there is nothing we can do. I was very hurt because I had been very patient, never raised my voice and tried to understand and listen during the entire conversation. I even said that I would pay them dispite my dissatisfaction. I relayed my disappointment in being treated so poorly and told her that I would not recommend the company to anyone. She couldn't have cared less.

July 18, 2016 [redacted] Revdex.com 400 Holiday Drive - Suite 220 Pittsburgh, PA 15220 Review: [redacted] Dear [redacted] In response to the complaint customer called Kurtz Monument Company the day Comcast had line failures. When Kurtz numbers were called a recorded message come on saying "this number is not in service", however Kurtz Monument Company was in service and still is since 1905. Were operational that evening until this day. Customer who complained pruchased a Cemetery Marker December 30, 2015, for $2,000.00, a Bronze Cemetery Marker. The customer only placed a deposit of $10.00, customer was told and it is written on her contract the Memorial will not be placed until after it is paid in full. Once the Memorial is paid in full, the process times approx 90 - 120 days. Customer paid Memorial in full mid April 2016. At that time it was ordered. The marker has come to Kurtz from the Foundry and will be set into the Cemetery in the near future. Respectfuly, KURTZ/MONUMENT COMPANY D. George C[redacted] Owner

My mother passed away two weeks ago. Within a week, I received a letter from Kurtz Monument Company and a brochure from their business. They were "extending our sympathy to you on your recent loss". Nobody in our family was inquiring about a monument as my mother was cremated. I find it disgusting. This company is so bad it has to troll obituaries to try to drum up business.

Review: In May 2013 we purchased and paid in full for headstone for my deceased mother ([redacted]) and we were told it would be in by end of July 2013. September 2013 I went to cemetary and no headstone. I called and spoke to [redacted] who sold me the headstone and he advised it would be done in two weeks. Two weeks came and no headstone. I called again and talked to woman who answered phone and she advised it would be done in one week. When I asked what the problem was I was advised that a girl quit and a man retired. After one week still no headstone. I called twice on Monday, Oct 14 and left my work and home number and was told I needed to speak to [redacted]. To this date [redacted] has not returned my call. I saw online two similar complaints about this company. Woman who answers the phone there is very curt and there is no apology or concern at all for my problem.Desired Settlement: Would either like the headstone done as we paid for and signed off on or would like my money back - $2,247. (I did see in online review by another customer that they did the headstone incorrectly and buyer had to pay someone else to come in and correct and Kurtz would not return their call or offer any money back)

The customers Memorial had been set into the Cemetery, two weeks prior to my receiving customers complaint.

Review: In May of 2014, I contracted Kurtz Monument Company to complete engraving on a grave marker purchased by my mother [redacted] in October of 2010. The service would require they come removed the marker, take it to the engraver to add a date, and return the marker to [redacted] where my parents are interred. Payment in full in the amount of $140.00 was made in May of 2014 by personal check. The check was deposited to their account approximately one week after mailing. The work had not been completed as of August and the company was contacted at that time. I was assured they would contact their engraver and contact me. As of yesterday 9/8/2014, the work has not been complete and the grave marker remains at the cemetery without any new engraving. My mother had issues with this company when the marker was initially purchased and their service was slow at that time.Desired Settlement: I would like the services to be completed.

Not sure you got this -did not see it on sent items so I will submit again. I got mailing from this company within days of a death THEN got a follow up call-within a week-only indentifying herself by first name then asking "was that your husband that just died" ! I got another call today-"private caller" Same girl-same question? This is callous rude and unprofessional for any company. I called the company and reported it.I always valued the Revdex.com rating-- this makes me wonder---

Review: - the double headstone purchased in 2004 has always been slightly crooked but we assumed when our mother was buried it would level out. . Second burial in 2014 and now headstone is sliding off the base. I called on 5/15/15, 5/18/15, 5/27/15 and 7/17/15 and was told the problem was listed on "the board" and would be handled when they were in the area. This is now October 2015 and nothing has been done. The headstone was purchased from the "[redacted]" location - still listed in the 2015 phone book, but this address is a seamstress that has been in that location over 17 years. There is no physical location in the [redacted] area. How long do we have to wait to have this corrected? What happens if they are not in our area for another several years ???Desired Settlement: The desired outcome is to repair the headstone base, making it deeper and larger to accommodate the stone. Then, to make sure the headstone is straight and sturdy. (And, an explanation as to why they are listed locally in the [redacted] phone book when that location is a seamstress shop that has been physically there for over 17 years would be appreciated ! )

Review: I lost my husband unexpectedly. I went to Kurtz Monument in Jan.to order my husband a headstone. I selected my color&design. I went there 4 times to verify exactly what I would be getting, each time I was assured that I would be receiving the color and design that I had chosen. I had to go back 5 more times until they finally got the design right. When I received a postcard in the mail stating that in a few days my headstone would be set along with the vase that I had ordered. I called to ask them if I could stop in and see the headstone to make sure everything was right before they placed it, she said oh we don't do that! My Daughter and I go to the cemetery to see the headstone and it was NOT what I ordered. I would NEVER order my husband a pink headstone.I am totally devastated. The next day I called the owner she is the person who wrote up my order, I told her it was NOT the color I ordered, She was very rude, called me a liar and hung up on me. I went to her office to talk to her and I told her word for word our conversation 4 times I went in there and everytime I went I asked her this is the color of headstone I will be receiving it was one that was on display, she said oh yes only it will be flat. I told her to look me in the eyes and tell me that she made a mistake, she threw the contract at me and told me I signed off on it and that I kept going back and forth with the 2 colors, I told her no I did not I would NEVER order my husband a pink headstone! She was very rude and said she did not remember our converations and that she NEVER has made a mistake in the 40 years she has been in business.REALLY? She then asked me what she could do to make it right, I said give me the color that I was supposed to get. She wants to at my expense! She wants 600.00 + my balance.I don't think so.I already paid them over 1,400.00 I signed the contract trusting she knew her job and did it right! No one should ever have to deal with something like this especially after losing a loved one!Desired Settlement: I think they should pay me all my money back & then some! it was her mistake, and took advantage of someone in their time of need. I really needed to say more, but ran out of lines. I did pay the balance off today since they threatened me if I don't pay it within 10 days they would lift the stone and there would be a 450.00 resetting fee. I could not bear to have nothing there. I pray she never has to endure the pain that I am feeling.I am not the only customer she has done this to.

[redacted] - Came into my showroom highly distraught and emotionally.

She was only permitted by her Cemetery to have a flat Grass Marker for a Cemetery Stone. Mrs. [redacted] could not decide, between 2 colors, of granite to be used for her memorial. It was between Star Galaxy Black and Cats Eye Brown. After much deliberation she chose the Cats Eye Brown Granite. I wrote the contract for her, I read the contract back to her including the color (see enclosed copy of contract), and went back into the showroom to show her the color.

Mrs. [redacted] signed the contract and paid the appropiate down payment,

Mrs. [redacted] chose a design with a feather on it. Kurtz Monument Company policy is to do 1 shetch and 1 revision free of charge after the 2nd Sketch there is d §55.00 charge for each sketch, (see copy of initial I letter sent with first sketch). -

Kurtz did not charge Mrs. [redacted] any additional for each correction. It was difficult for her to relay exactly how she wanted the feather to be angled. Finally she was satisfied.'

I don't ever recall Mrs. [redacted] coming into the office to confirm the color of the granite. She came in after the pruchase of the marker to choose a vase, which is Brown similar to the color of the Cats ,

Eye Brown Granite she selected. It is a familiar practice for customers to view their Cemetery Memorial in our shop, before it is set into the cemetery. Mrs. [redacted] never requested such a thing to me, that never occurred.

The Cemetery Marker Mrs. [redacted] chose is Brown not Pink.

Mrs. [redacted] called me the day after she viewed the marker, and told me I gave her the wrong color - I pulled her contract and told her it is what she selected. Mrs. [redacted] began to scream and threaten me telling me she will ruin my business and tell everyone she knows Kurtz is a cheat and not a good company. I tried to calm her down, but it was useless.

She continued to carry on and threaten me. I simply told her "I'm hanging up this conversation is over". I did not throw any contract at Mrs. [redacted].

I hugged her and told her I know she is going through a "tuff time and I would

Review: I gave them a down payment for a monument on Feb.18, 2016 and changed my mind the next day. I mailed the notice of cancellation on Feb. 19, 2016, informing them of this and requested that they return my money. ($1000.00) I called them on March 9, 2016, and asked them to refund my money and the finance person told me they would mail the check to me on March 14, 2016. It is now March 23, 2016, and I have not received my refund.Desired Settlement: I would like my money returned to me.

Review: Two days following my husbands passing, this company sent a brochure for products under the guise of a "sympathy" card. I found the card to be offensive and simply through it away. Today, not even a month after my husband's passing - I received a call from this company. When I began to tell the lady on the phone that I found their mailing offensive and tacky - she hung up on me! I am beyond angry that this company would troll obituaries and use them as "cold calling" opportunities! I can assure you that NEVER would I buy from a company that is so cold as to call me and try to sell me something passed on my husband's death!Desired Settlement: I don't ever want to hear from these people again and their management should take a look at their horrible policy of cold calling people from the obituaries! What a terrible business this must be!

March 15, 2016 [redacted] In Re: Revdex.com ID [redacted] - [redacted] Dear Patricia Cook: Kurtz Monument Company does not send a card to potential customers, therefore that piece of information did not come from Kurtz Monument. Company. Kurtz mails a Letter of introduction and sympathy, along with a brochure illustrating Cemetery Memorials, We have been able to.help people in a time of need, providing them with the information, and advising of our affordable prices and beautiful craftsmanship. Our letter is not an offensive one, on the contrary, the letter provides much needed information, of-which I personally have been "thanked". by thousands of people for the mailing through the course of time. Our letter.and brochures are mailed out 10 days after the, passing of a person. The phone call is made between 3-6 weeks after the passing"of a person. Once again Kurtz Monument Company only wants: to assist and help people. Respectfully, KURTZ MONUMENT COMPANY
