[redacted] (the Customer) was a 1st time customer who came to Kwik Kar on University (KKOU) on November 18, for an oil change and transmission flushThe Customer's GMC Acadia was an year old high-mileage vehicle (more than 169,miles) that had averaged 21,miles per yearAs noted on the invoice, the vehicle came to us with a check engine light which signals a pre-existing condition/malfunctionThe origin of the malfunction was unknown because full diagnostics were not performed during the November 18th service which was limited to an oil change and transmission flushAfter the Customer returned from [redacted] , we had a 3rd party inspect the vehicleThe 3rd party evaluation follows:· If the dipstick were loose (or even missing), it Is highly unlikely any oil would come out of the opening assuming the engine were performing properlyThe dipstick serves to monitor oil levels and prevent contaminants from getting into the oil.· The valve cover gaskets on the Customer's vehicle were leakingIt is not known when or if the Customer's valve cover gaskets had ever been replaced but valve cover gaskets typically fail and need replacement every 100,miles.· The substance leaking from the valve cover gaskets was oil which was making contact with the vehicle's exhaust manifold(s)This explains the smell of burning oil as well as the engine compartment oil mentioned by the Customer.· There was low/no compression on one (1) to two (2) of the vehicle's cylindersIn the case of severely worn, i.e., "blown", valve cover gaskets, the vehicle will experience a severe loss of oil and a no-start condition due to the loss ofcompression.· The estimated cost of repairs (approximately $ 2,500) assumed head gaskets would have to be replaced and that the engine heads would have to be replaced or machined.Bottom Line: Although we sympathize with the Customer, the root cause of the vehicle's problems have nothing to do with the oil change and transmission flush performed on November 18, Consequently, KKOU has no liability or financial responsibility in this matter

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: I have picture that disputes the claim oil was not lost from the dipstick opening and pictures showing the company's unprofessional and lazy attitude toward making this right

Mr*** own photos confirm the source of the oil leak and smell was not a loose oil dipstick. Photo (see attachment) was supplied by Mr*** and shows an area (circled in red) which appears to be saturated with an oil-like substance. In the photo, the engine cover (the plastic shroud with in script) is bone dry. This is significant because that shroud and the engine itself are in between the oil dipstick and the area which appears to be saturated in oil There’s no way the real estate between the oil dipstick and the area near the front windshield cowl would have remained dry if oil were streaming out of the dipstick tube while traveling at high speed Photo (see attachment) is a cloof a photo which was also supplied by Mr***. The area where the oil dipstick and tube is located is circled in red. Although the dipstick itself cannot be seen, it is clear the entire area (wiring harnesses, metal, plastics, etc.) is bone dry. Again, if oil were spewing from the dipstick tube while traveling at high speed, there would be visual evidence. There is none If the oil leakage problem Mr*** experienced had been the result of shoddy workmanship on the part of Kwik Kar on University, we would have performed repairs and paid for towing at no cost to Mr***. However, once the vehicle was returned to our shop, we could find no evidence of negligence on our part. That finding was confirmed by a 3rd party Consequently, Kwik Kar on University does not agree to reimburse Mr*** for towing. We do apologize for leaving Mr*** vehicle in a partially disassembled state and offer to reinstall the disassembled parts at no cost to Mr*** including the cost of round-trip towing from his home to our shop and back The OwnerTell us why here
