Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 5, 2015/09/23) */ The brake inspection that [redacted] refers to "a few years ago" was on Dec 12/2013 during his winter tire change over which the invoice amount was $84 and was told at that time front pads at 6mm rear pads at 4mm odo 104686. A young lady... dropped of the car on Sept 21/2015 odo 116497 complaining of brake noise and wanted her brakes inspected. A quote was presented at approx. 1500.00 vehicle requiring front calipers, front rotors, pads as well as rear pads, rotors. We called Greg with the quote, he then responded several hours later explaining that "it was in the budget and that they would be back next month". The vehicle was then reassembled and put out for pick up explained that it had no rear brake material and should not be driven. The young lady came to pick up the vehicle and paid the bill. 88.79 tax in which the shop supplies priced at 5.21. Greg then called for explanation and was told that brake inspections are not free and asked if the amount would come off his repair. He was told that we could reduce his repair amount by 88.79 if he proceeded with the repairs in a timely manner. We appreciate the BBB gives us and our customers the ability to discuss issues but at this time we regret that the customer does not see value of the services we provided. But we will not be refunding for the inspection. Initial Consumer Rebuttal / [redacted] (3000, 7, 2015/09/25) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) On September 12th the "young women" referred to in the response, went into the Tirecraft to see if they did brake work and then setup an appointment to have the work completed. She then called back in the afternoon to check the cost of the brake job and was told the job would cost up to $500, with better parts, but that the cost could be somewhat lower than that. When I was called to be told the work would be $1500 I said I would have to check the budget. Again my issue is with how the price went from under $500 to $1500. This price jump feels like a bait and switch tactic and I hear "young women" are often targeted by garages for extra fees. \ When I called a [redacted] dealership for the cost on a break job prior to taking the car to Tirecraft I was quoted approximately $1,200. I should have known that Tirecraft's $500 quote was too good to be true, but you just don't know who to trust. I believe the $88.79 fee was used as an incentive to bring the car back. We were given a doom and gloom story about how the breaks were seized up and NOT told "that we could reduce (our) repair amount by 88.79 if (we) proceeded with the repairs in a timely manner". It is worth noting that the breaks only just started making any kind of noise that would warn of problems. The $88.79 lesson I learned from this is that when you are ready to drop your car off at a garage and have been told what the cost will be, any answer you get is a very rough estimate used to numb the true cost to come.
