We utilized Stonewood Homes in Moore South Carolina to construct our new houseDuring the design phase, we chose to have black appliances and were told that a $upgrade fee would applyAfter seeing the cabinets installed and the darker color, we decided we would like to change color of appliancesWe contacted the owner of Stonewood Homes and described our desires & he stated the appliances had already been installed and unfortunately there was nothing they could do for usThis was understandable as we made the choice for black appliancesHowever, it would have been nice to have a builder try to work with you to provide you with a finished product that you want and are happy withWe asked the owner of Stonewood Homes who the supplier was in hopes we could work something out with them outside of the contract for constructionThey refused on several occasions to give us the name of the supplierAfter extensive research, we found the supplier to be *** *** *** storeWe visited *** *** and discussed our situationWe also asked them what the price difference was between white (which is standard & included within the construction contract) and black appliancesThe answer given to us was there was NO difference in priceThe sales representative showed us the invoice paid for our appliances to confirm our appliances were purchased thereDuring closing, I asked the owner of Stonewood Homes if there was still supposed to be a $upgrade fee when choosing black appliancesThe response was “YesMy supplier charges me that upgrade fee so I have to charge my customer the same”When I told them that I had spoken to the supplier and was advised differently, he would not respondIn my opinion, lying to your customer just to make a little more money is not ethical business practicesOur home came with a warranty to be completed after month and again after monthsOn the month warranty, we submitted a claim for our back door not closing properlyThe door casing was being chipped away by the latchThe “Site Manager” came to look and was unable to fix itHe stated the door had been adjusted as far as it would go but it still did not operate properlyHis proposed solution was to install a longer strike plateFive weeks later he returned with a inch long strike plateOnce installed, this strike plate extended beyond the casing the same length of the door ***I advised him this was unacceptableThis is a safety hazard not only for catching of clothing but also to my son which it would be at head level and would be very easy for him to strike his head on itThe Site Supervisor advised me “I discussed this with the door supplier and the owner of Stonewood Homes about your doorHe said there are only options we can do – leave the small strike plate that you have on there or use the big one I brought out last timeThe owner of Stonewqood Homes said there is nothing else we can do”It seems to me that if you can’t fix it, it should be replaced altogetherOur only request that our back door operate and look like it is designed and every other house in the neighborhoodAfter all, this is a brand new house! I E-mailed Stonewood Homes on May 19, to inquire if they intended on honoring the warranty and repairing the back doorAfter not receiving a reply or any attempt to contact me, I sent another email on June 8, inquiring the same and included that if I received no response within the next week, it will be viewed as Stonewood Homes does not intend on honoring the warranty they providedAs of July 1, we have received no responseIt is our opinion that Stonewood Homes does whatever it takes to get your business and will try to get more money out of you any way they possibly canThey do not stand behind their product and in our opinion by far does not operate even remotely ethicallyThere were many occasions where we tried to contact Stonewood Homes and never received a replyWe would never do business with Stonewood Homes again and would never recommend anyone do business with themI hope this review helps others to be aware and take extreme precaution if you choose to do business with Stonewood Homes, although I would highly recommend not doing business with them
