Be very careful by trying to do the right thing and rescue a dog from LaMancha. While you are in discussion with them to adopt you will get replied to rather quickly but that will change when you have an issue with the rescue.

We were told the dog we were adopting was great with other dogs and kids as he was the "go to dog" for new rescues. Sadly when we got him home within a few hours we knew the rescue had issues and it began when I brought out dinner, he was very aggressive towards me and there was no way to control his actions. Whenever food was involved he turned into a mean dog and would bite if he had the chance. He tried to bite my son a few times and even tried to bite me when I was putting on a harness.

So I knew we had to return him and got in contact with LaMancha about relinquishing him back to them. At first I was receiving emails back and told I needed to wait for kennel space, in the meantime my son and wife were afraid of this dog as he was unpredictable in his actions, simply going to the bathroom was an issue for them if he was patrolling the hallway. He wouldn't let anyone near me as he was protecting me from them.

Finally after 2 weeks of waiting I was able to return him back to LaMancha only to be welcomed with a very horrible attitude from Dru (see a pattern with other reviews). She made a rather unnecessary comment that he would have to be put down if he's aggressive yet when I was starting the adoption process he was a great, friendly dog, she could have kept that to herself but she is a rather rude person.

Lastly please be certain that the animal you are rescuing will be a fit for your family, it's hard to tell until you get them home and see how they are but if you have to return them you WILL NOT receive any money back from LaMancha which is BS in my opinion as they misrepresented his behavior. This has soured me on trying to do the right thing and rescue an animal in need.

We met a dog at a local fairShe was there along side a few puppies and the volunteers from LaMancha stated that she was years oldThey told us that the dog was being featured as the rescue group's "pet of the month" because she had been there for a while and hadn't been adoptedPet of the month meant that she'd be featured on the group's website and the volunteer stated that she'd have no adoption feeWhen my husband picked the dog up out of the enclosure, she was extremely sweet and seemed to melt into himNeedless to say, we requested an application and submitted it at the very beginning of the weekWe filled out the application quickly and even included photos of our home, our other dog and our children, thinking that it might help the rescue group to get to know us betterWe also included the requisite vet information for our current dog, as well as references who were not familyWe were approved for adoption within hours of the rescue receiving our applicationWe came to find out later that the rescue group did not check any of our references, nor did they check with our vetPerhaps this should have been the first alarm?
We scheduled a visit at the rescue facility for a few days later, and although we asked a number of questions regarding who needed to be present for the visit, they were not answeredWe arrived on a Friday at 5:00pm and introduced our dog to the dog we were considering adoptingWe were informed that the dog was friendly to other dogs and that the rescue group had themselves rescued the dog from a high-kill shelter and knew little about her history before they rescued her approximately months priorShe had not been adopted in those months, and therefore she was their pet of the monthWe were given the dogs records and decided to adopt herBefore we left, we were told that there was a fee of $After questioning why we were told that there was no fee for her because she was the pet of the month, The person who was helping us stated that there is always a fee of at least $and we could adopt her for that amountShe did proceed to go into the residence on the property and ask about the fee and returned to say that they simply wanted the dog adopted to a good home and that we could adopt her with no feeWe did so, and home we wentWe were expecting our dog to be uncomfortable with a new dog in the house, perhaps even a little aggressive, so we kept the two dogs separated by a gate for the first hoursOur dog barked at the new dog occasionally, but he stopped after the first couple of hoursOn Saturday afternoon, we proceeded to let the dogs have a supervised introduction with adults there ensuring the dogs were safe and doing well togetherThe initial introduction went swimminglyWe had removed all toys and food from the area where the dogs were, and everything was seemingly okAfter about an hour, that changedOur family dog walked past the new dog, and she pinned him and attackedOur dog tried to run, but the new dog cornered him and continued to attack until we intervened, as quickly as possibleThis happened additional times within a few hours, so we separated the dogs againThe following day, the same thing happenedThere was no provocation and no objects of high value around the dogs when the new dog attacked, multiple timesOur existing dog started cowering under tables and running to hide from the new dogWe again separated the dogsOn Monday morning, we took the new dog to the vet for an initial visitWe came to find out that the new dog was completely flea infested, worm infested, likely had thyroid problems because she had lost over 1.5lbs (she is a 10lb dog and 1.5lbs is a lot for that size dog) from her weight on the paperwork from the rescue, had skin issues, and additionally had aggression issues that were likely not curableShockingly, the new dog who came from a rescue was also NOT SPAYED! The vet stated that the two dogs needed to be kept separate for at least days while the fleas and worms were taken care of as fleas and worms posed a risk to our current dogWe were also advised to consult with a pet behavior specialist ASAP regarding the aggressionWe did, and the veterinary behavior specialist stated that while it might be possible to eventually create a peaceful relationship between the two dogs, the new dog would never be "cured" of the aggressionWe were told to expect at least 2-sessions weekly at multiple hundreds of dollars each week in order to *hopefully* create a harmonious environment for the two dogsWe were also advised that none of this could happen until the new dog was rid of the fleas, skin issues, and was spayed, as these all can contribute to aggression issuesFollowing the vet appointment and the behavior consultation, we phoned LaMancha and requested to return the dogBoth my husband and I were a wreck as we really wanted to give this sweet dog a good home, and we felt like we had failed herHOWEVER, the truth was that we both also felt completely dupedWe had adopted an animal and were told that she had a clean bill of health and was dog and cat friendlyWe were shocked when she started attacking our dog multiple times a dayWe were surprised to find out that she was not spayed, was covered in live fleas, had worms, and was so skinny that you could see every bone in her bodyAnd all of this was following a 3-month stay at a supposed rescueAfter speaking to someone at the rescue, we were told to return the dog to them between 4p-7p that Monday eveningWe drove minutes to the rescue facility, and found no one thereEventually, someone did show up and went to get the facility owner, DruShe came outside, and had a pretty mean attitude towards usI gave her all of the medications that we had purchased for the care of the dog from our vet, along with the original paperwork that the rescue group had given usI asked if our 11yo son could just say goodbye and Dru gave us attitude but did allow itShe took the dog and turned around and leftFirst, I am so sad for that dogHad I read reviews prior to adopting her, I would have taken her elsewhere and not returned her to that rescue groupSecond, being treated terribly upon return of the animal was shockingI was in tears the entire day and was distraught about not being able to keep the adopted new animalI found the staff to be cold and mean upon our returnThird, we feel totally dupedThe facility must have had some knowledge that the dog was not gaining weight, that the dog was COVERED in fleas, and that her feces were liquid from all of the worms in her poor bellyAnd they allowed us to take her home that way? This wasn't a new animal to them, she had been there for MONTHSShame on them for the way they care for their dogs, or at least this dogWe are truly hoping that this dog finds a wonderful forever family ASAP

We originally went to LaMancha Animal Rescue because of the reviews we read but don't always believe what you read as I was more than once told..
We are a older couple (72) who just recently experienced the lost of our 14 year old dog. We knew after owning dogs all our lives that we wanted and needed a dog in our lives and like our past pet wanted to rescue one again. Our living arrangements had changed since our last pet and we live now in a breed and weight restricted development with no yards just pet walking areas. We went up on line to A[redacted]-a-P** and began our search and found what we thought we would like at LaMancha. We sent off a e-mail asking vital questions which we based our decision on weather to proceed to set up a meeting to see the dog.
The main questions we asked in the first e-mail was that we couldn't go any further with our quest until we knew her weight because of our weight restrictions at our complex and also requested her approximate age. Their reply was 35# and 1 year old !
I thanked them for their info and asked a few more questions. Was she house trained and crate trained ? I explained that we lived in a complex that had no back yards but plenty of walking areas and that we were use to a pet that loves snuggling with older folks who were homebodies that liked to walk and take rides and to please feel free to be honest with us if she felt we were unrealistic with what we were expecting of this dog!
We received a application to fill out identifying her as a him but none of our questions that we asked answered except the inconsistency of the sex.
We asked for clarification and it was answered with female as we wanted as well as the cost involved.
We filled out the application and sent it in and were okayed to move forward to make a appointment to meet and greet this dog. We arrived on date and time specified and was greeted by D** the owner who promptly got the dog we were inquiring about for us to meet.
She put us in a enclosed yard with the dog and went off to get some paper work on the dog to see if she could answer some questions we had. While she was gone and we were getting acquainted with the dog we questioned each other about her size . Although she was smaller in stature than our previous dog who weighed 33 lbs she was quite long and solid. I picked her up and noted to my wife that she felt heaver than 35 lbs. The weight limit of our complex. When D** came back we questioned her about the weight and she said she was about 30 to 35 lbs and it wasn't listed on the paper work and she didn't have a scale . (SHOULD HAVE BEEN OUR FIRST WARNING) I said to her that she e-mailed me with the weight as 35 lbs and that was the reason we came because of the complexes restrictions. She said if that's what was e-mailed them that's what she weighs. We decided to take the dog and again I asked her that if there was a problem with the weight could we return her and she said sure-no problem. We signed the agreement and I gave her a check for $275.00 and left with the dog.
We had a appointment with our vet to have the dog checked out because she had no up to date health records from PA.. As we waited for the day of our vet appointment we got quite a few comments from unit owners on her size and how she was leading us down the road on the leash with her healthy excitement. What we discovered about our new dog was what we were most concerned about that her weight was not 35 lbs as stated but a whopping 55 lbs which was 20lbs over our legal limit and putting us in jeopardy of being evicted.
The next day we notified D** by e-mail that we would not be able to keep the dog because of her weight and restrictions and would like to return her as soon as possible because of that and the bonding process that was occurring.
She replied that she had no kennel space available for a week and a half and we could bring her back then We told her that we were concerned with her size and barking and that it was drawing more attention to our violation as well as the visual pulling of two elderly people down the road.. She replied with a e-mail with suggestions to help with that till we return her. I thanked her and again relayed our fears as well as the uneasiness of the continuing bonding on both sides.
On Fri. The 10th one week after having her we sent a request again to D** to tell her we would like to return our dog the next day Saturday the 11th not wait until the 18th and to see if she could find another place to take her and that we could not keep her any longer. We received no reply to our e-mail.
On Tuesday the 14th of April 2015 we sent a e-mail telling her that due to weight restrictions on pets that she was informed of from the start that we were returning her Saturday the 18th at the latest and if she couldn't please rescind her contract so we could find a rescue or shelter to give her to and asked her to respond within 48 hours.
She replied that I sent two e-mails telling her I was returning the dog the previous Saturday and never showed up so she filled up the kennel. I responded that she never responded to my e-mail so we did not drive the 100 miles to see if she could take her and told her I was sorry about the mix up but I would be there on Saturday the 18th to return her.
Saturday April 18th 2015 10AM Arrived and waited to see D[redacted] We were ignored and rebuffed and made to seem we were inviable as we stood with our dog and returning paperwork folder. (THE REALITY) Finally after about 15 minutes of waiting I went up to her and told her we were the(name) people who were bringing back the dog because of her weight. She immediately jumped on the defensive and said we told her we were bringing her Back because she barked and we couldn't control her! We said no it was because of the weight that was to be no more than 35#s was really 55#s. She then said she didn't have time for this and our yelling at her and grabbed for the folder we had the paper work in. We told her the folder wasn't hers but what was inside is what she needed. We gave her the proper paperwork back and at no time did she ever ask us about the dog, about us, or offer any type of replacement to help us with. I then asked her for our money back and she yelled at us that we signed a contract and we don't get anything back. At that remark she grabbed the leash and walked away leaving us awed, sad and heart broken.
We left with no dog, no replacement and no refund. This so called rescuer of lost animals had our dog back and was on her way to resell it for another $275.00---Not bad work for 2 weeks $550.00 and the possibility of more when someone else is deceived with the wrong information just so $$$ can be made.
So much for reviews! We are heart broken for the second time in a month with now the loss of a second dog that this bonding should have never occurred as well as the lost of our hard earned savings .

I'm convinced all the great reviews this place gets are just the money grubbing owners. We adopted a dog from here and was lied to about his health. We took him to our vet for a checkup and it turned out that he had 5 different types of worms, including heart worms. I emailed LaMancha and told them the situation and they informed me that the correct treatment for heart worms is a scam and it can be treated with the pills you give your dogs every month. That's when we knew they were bat st insane and told them we needed to return the dog and we don't like being lied to. A week later we returned the dog and gave them the rest of his medication for the other worms. Direct quote from those low life's, "Why are you giving us this medication? He's just going to get worms again." Never mind the fact that all their dogs are listed as UTD on shots and healthy on their website. This place is a scam and I feel sorry for anyone stupid enough to adopt a dog from here. Btw, the dog went right back up on the site the next day, no mention of his worms or anything.

I think it's disgusting that you don't have a heart and returned the dog after a week. Yes, it totally sucks that the dog had worms and yes, it's wrong that you were deceived. But, You are part of the problem too. How can you take a dog back after having it for a week. People like you don't deserve to have pets!
