La Mesa Auto Care Inc Reviews (2)

Review: Business off a smog check coupon for $14.95 plus $8.25 for smog certificate for "most car & light trucks". Would not honor the coupon for my 2001 Chevy Suburban because the car was "too long" and would have to "back the car in". Therefore, the smog would cost $39.95 plus $8.25 for certificate.Desired Settlement: Let other consumers know this business is a crook.

Response:

Some vehicles do not fall into the category of "Most cars and Light Trucks", we are sorry the consumer does not understand but there is nothing here to resolve.

Thanks

Review: I went to this business on 9/30/13 for the business to determine why my vehicle failed a smog check. I believe I spoke with the owner of the business with initials [redacted]. After about three hours of which he wasn't even really working on the vehicle, he told me that he wasn't sure of what was wrong with the vehicle. He simply gave me some vague conclusions as to what he "thinks" is wrong with the vehicle. But never said what was specifically wrong with the vehicle as I had requested to him to do beforehand. He said the car failed the ignition timing when it did not.

I took the care to the Bureau of Auto Repair (Smoke check Referree Program) at the college and they informed me on their print out that the car passed the ignition timing test when La Mesa Car told me that the car did not pass this test.

La Mesa Auto Care actually charges are $100.00 per hour to look at the vehicle. However, the dishonest owner NEVER FULLY PERFORMED THE WORK that I requested and charged me $85.00 for doing essentially nothing but a lousy job. (SEE Invoice [redacted])Desired Settlement: If the owner DOES NOT return my $85.00 which I gave to him for doing nothing, I will be filing a complaint in California Superior Court against La Mesa Auto Care in 30 days. (all invoices and documentation will be presented to a Superior Court Judge that will prove my case)

Response:

[redacted] declined repairs after some preliminary diagnosing, see attached invoice. The problems noted are as specific as could be noted without further repairs and expense. attached is a copy of the repair invoice. I will not be offering any refund and don't think I can be any clearer than during the original transaction.

Thanks

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

I SPECIFICALLY told the owner of the business ([redacted]) to find out exactly what was wrong with the vehicle as to why it did not pass the smog check. he gave me some vague information as to what he thought was wrong with the vehicle. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO CHARGE SOMEBODY $85.00 TO DO ESSENTIALLY NOTHING. Indeed, I was there at the shop and noticed the car was not even worked on for a long period of time during that day. It was just sitting there.

The real proof that he did nothing is the fact that the actual price to diagnose the service is $100.00 and not $85.00. I guess because he did a "half as" job he must have felt guilty about charging $100.00 which are his actual rates. (and a court may see it exactly this way as well).

A complaint will be filed in Superior Court of California for the $85.00 if I do not receive a refund for this incomplete and incompetent service within 30 days.

Regards,

I will be filing this complaint in Superior Court to refund my $85.00 for work that was not performed. As said before, the invoice shows he says " he only assumes what is wrong with the car" but he never verifies "specifically" what is wrong with the car's inability to pass the smog check because he was too lazy to take the time to fully check. (I guess this is the reason why this business has so many other complaints at the Revdex.com). He would rather take somebody's money and not perform the work which is FRAUD.
