Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID[redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.]
Regards,
[redacted]
I have received your letter and a check for the amount [redacted]
that I requested for a refund for what I thought was over charged for cremation
of my cat, Shaka.
I do except the offer of the refund because after doing a
lot of research of my own and received detailed pricing from around the area
vets and from the crematory that your vet and others use for hteir cremation
services also and with prices of what they charge customers and veterinarians
for cremation, etc.
The [redacted] has given me the prices they charge
[redacted]; Cats 1-12 pds [redacted]+** at the most
travel charge= [redacted] total for service of cremation, pickup and delivery back. I
also called Vets around the area to get prices to compare, which I would be
glad to pass on to you if you request them, and there prices were all under [redacted]
which included office/house call, euthanasia, cremation, travel, and the vets
time and storage. These vets have a consultant to set these prices for you,
they might should consider doing some more research.
You also stated in your letter to me that you didn’t think
you rushed the euthanasia process, but I don’t think you truly understood my
complaint was after reading your letter. I do appreciate you coming on the day
I called and it was very much appreciated since my cat, Shaka was doing well at
the time, he wasn’t in pain and wasn’t able to walk anymore so I thought it was
his time and I should let him go be at peace. What my distress was from was how
the process took place. You said that you would sedate him and give the last
injection for the euthanasia after he was fully sedated. You didn’t wait, I was
concerned when you had your assistant hold his face so you could shave his leg
to inject the last injection into his vein. Because one I thought he would be
starting with the being sedated and I said to you he wouldn’t bite or scratch
you because so did not have to hold him aggressively, because he couldn’t move
and I thought that you would have waited for the injection of the sedation to
take effect before doing anything else to him. When ym cat cried out, I asked
you if that was him crying and you said YES…Why didn’t you stop then? So not
only was he in distress but so was I should have told you to stop and wait till
he was fully sedated then. It just happened seem to all happen so quickly that I
didn’t know what to do or say. And again, I did appreciate you coming out the
same day I called. But you didn’t wait until he was fully sedated and so he
cried out while you were shaving him, you didn’t stop or wait and I’m not even
certain if he was sedated when you gave him the meds for euthanasia, so did
that hurt him as well? Understand that the main reason I called your Vet to
come to my house was for; so he would not be afraid or upset in a strange
surrounding or strangers, not be in any pain, to I would have been at peace.
But with the process that was performed that day, he was in stressed and
possible felt the euthanasia injection? I have spoken to vets and many people,
clients and friends who have their pets euthanized and everyone told me that
the veterinarian always waited until the animal was FULLY SEDATED before euthanizing
with the final injection. I have also had a cat from years back that I only had
for a short period of time before he got sick so the vet recommended I have him
put to sleep, I do remember them waiting while I held him until he was fully
sedated before the last injection too. SO now my last memory of him was that I
wasn’t able to give him or myself the closer that I feel should have been
given.
All I hope and pray for is that you will please not do this
with anyone else and their animal with not waiting on the sedation to take
effect. It’s a horrible memory for the owner to have to keep with them and with
the loss of their pet. And I truly believe your Vet is over charging for these
services. But only you as the owner of this Vet can decide to make any changes
for these matters.
I did my research on these prices and this not just for
myself but so if you didn’t know the prices in the area around you, you or your
consultant could do some more of your own.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Review: Complaint for the services and charges of having my cat of 19 yrs euthanized and cremated on 4/14/14. I called to have a doctor come to my house to euthanize my cat, the doctor, [redacted] came on 4/14/14 around 1:30pm and sheagreed that it was time to let my cat go. I wasn't happy that she didn't wait till the sedation had taken before starting w shaving his leg to place the last injection in his vein, he was still awake and it upset him and me, the reason I had her come in the first place was to keep him at peace and comfortable. So she rushed it and soon as he was gone she put him in her bag. She took him for me so he would be cremated on my request. When my husband went to pick up his remains and paid the bill it was shocking! They charged $50 for the call, Euthanized $85, Cremation $334.00 for a cat that was only 6-7 pds! The cost of the cremation was a the biggest shock. They did not advise me of these charges before. I called the place where the cremation took place, [redacted] and asked them what they charged and it was $135.00. I even took under consideration of the cost to drive there, maby $50-75 extra, not $199.00 additional for them to keep him in a freezer for a day and travel to meet the cremator within 20 mins of the buisness and the doctor even said they usually take multiple pets to be cremated at a time, not one. So where does these additional cost of $199.00 come in? They would only say to me it was for there time and keeping in the freezer for a day. I think this is a terrible way of doing buisness, they are over charging and taking advantage of a customer with the loss of a very loved pet. I don't understand how a small town vet such as this can feel good about how they are treating their customers. Being over charged & doctor shouldn't have rushed unthanization without waiting for my cat to be fully sedated, I'm very heart broken that my cat, [redacted] had to be upset before his passing and that I feel taken advantage of.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to have to tell there customers about the costs like they should have with me. I could have taken him to the crematory myself and only had the charge of $135. I've never heard of a vet charging additional costs for this. And I would like for them to refund $149.00 for the cremation. And an appology from the owner and doctor for the way the proceedings took place, for the time of the call when she euthenized my cat and the costs not being told to me before hand.
