Our Customer dropped off the vehicle on 3/17/and we found a coolant leak that required the engine to be replaced, to do the repair it is necessary to raise the vehicle using the liftThe lifts we use make Contact under the body along the pinch weld on this particular modelI have enclosed pictures of the lift and where it contacts the vehicle while in the air there is a good three inches of clearance between the body of the vehicle and the base of the lift were the swing arms attachOn the right rear of the vehicle it looked like the lift contact point may not have been correctly placed causing the damage as there were both scratch marks and the pinch weld slightly bentOn the left side the whole side is pushed in along the pinch weld, if the lift had caused this there would be scratch marks down the whole side and the pinch weld would have damageThis vehicle was brought back to us after the Snow and ice storm to have the damage looked atThe way the Storm came in it caused Snow piles to turn rock hard, we had other vehicle with similar damage from the ice hitting the underneath of the vehicleThere were no scratches nor did the pinch weld show any damage as this is what would happen if the damage was caused by ice because the pinch weld would have cutthrough the ice pushing the metal up and causing the paint to splinterWe never have a problem repairing any damage that we may have caused but I just do not see where we could have caused this damage with the lift.Lafferty ChevroletGregory J R [redacted]

After further investigation and talking with the technician even after he flatly denied not setting the lift properly I now feel that the damage could have been caused by the lift and I am more than willing to have his vehicle repaired.Lafferty Chevrolet ---

I strongly disagree with Lafferty's response. The car was placed on the lift Nemours times over the course of several days. If the damage was caused by the ice, the damage would have been under the front and rear sides, not just between the tires on both sides. the damage is also identical on both sides of the car (more so on the driver side)and Lafferty has taken responsibility for the passenger side with the least damage. I am very confused as to why they wouldn't take responsibility for all of the damage they have caused. I have been a loyal customer at Lafferty for over 30 years, I even bought my first car there. I am extremely disappointed. I feel like they are calling me liar. It is a shame it is coming to this. I also find it hard to believe that several other customers complained about similar damage to their vehicle during the same time period. Seems to me that one of the mechanics still needs some schooling on lift usage. The only way the damage could have occurred from the ice is my car would of had to been picked up and dropped on the ice and then again picked up and removed from the ice in order for the damage to be in the located spots. I don't have the ability to attach my photos through this computer, I will email them from my phone.

On the right rear of the vehicle it looked like the lift contact point may not have been correctly placed causing the damage as there were both scratch marks and the pinch weld slightly bent. On the left side the whole side is pushed in along the pinch weld, if the lift had caused this there would be scratch marks down the whole side and the pinch weld would have damage. This vehicle was brought back to us after the Snow and ice storm to have the damage looked at. The way the Storm came in it caused Snow piles to turn rock hard, we had other vehicle with similar damage from the ice hitting the underneath of the vehicle. There were no scratches nor did the pinch weld show any damage as this is what would happen if the damage was caused by ice because the pinch weld would have cutthrough the ice pushing the metal up and causing the paint to splinter.
