Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/09/03) */
[redacted]response has been scanned in and converted to text below (original document is available using the online complaint system).
Not exactly sure how to answer this. To start with [redacted] started with a 2 room kitchenette on line...

reservation made on March 22nd, 2015. This rate is based on 2 adults at 125.00 and then [redacted] added 2 more adults which adds another $12.00 per extra adult bringing it to 149.00 per night plus tax.
This reservation was then changed to July 24th through the 26th no rate changes made as it was the same size room and a normal summer weekend rate.
[redacted] then changed it to August 7th through 9th to a great lake suite on a special event weekend which is a larger room on [redacted]s request. The changes were made and a email reservation change was sent to [redacted] on the same day of change June 27th 2015 which states the changes in rate because of the special event.
The Blues Fest brings in to the city of Duluth, MN 20,000 to 30,000 people for that weekend. The City of Commerce and Visit Duluth as well as the Commerce of Two Harbors all advertise this through facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube, google and pinterest and other sites for this event. They advertise and promote. We also belong to Visit Duluth and Two Harbors web site.
We do state in our policy which [redacted] was emailed that rates change for special events this policy has been in effect for 25 to 30 years way before we took over the resort the previous owner had this in place. Some special events change from year to year however Blues Fest is here every year. There are all kinds of special events as follows:
Grandmas Marathon
July 4th
Labor day
In Line Marathon
Blues Fest
Air Shows
Tall Ships
MEA
The list goes on. Rate changes on special events is a common practice for most cities with lots of events.
We are including paper work as follows: sign forms, signed credit card slips, and all information stating our cancellation policy and special event policy.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/09/03) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We made the reservation for us and our two children, which is a total of four people, and we were clear about that being the purpose of our trip from the very beginning--to take our kids back to their childhood vacation spot. We didn't "add" anyone at any time.
As I said in my complaint, a national holiday like July 4th is an understandable reason to hike rates, The "events" you've listed are merely the normal summer activities that go on in Duluth all summer long, which is why people come to Duluth in the summer. And, at well over ten miles north of the so-called festival you up-charged us for, you're quite far away and that's why no one at the hotel mentioned it to us and all cited just regular summer vacation plans as the reason for their stays.
Based upon the published rates on your website for unit 11, which is where we stayed, you overcharged us by $170.
The Lake Breeze used to be a joyful, family place but you and your husband were oddly cold to not just us, but other guests in plain view of us. Although it's irrelevant to this particular rate discrepancy, the pool was also very cold and why mention your cozy fireplaces and wood burning stove on the web ads for your motel if they're switched off and no one's allowed to use them?
We won't be returning to the Lake Breeze, and I'm disappointed you've decided to stick with this inaccurate version of events regarding the rate overcharge.
