Lakeland Towing Reviews (1)

We went to Lakeland towing on Saturday September 5 2015 to retrieve our trailer and pay our bill. Most of our bill was being paid by [redacted]. We wrote them a cheque for the remainder of the bill which was $2836.00. the cheque had a mistake on it which my daughter fixed as it was brought to my attention. The owner was not being cooperative [redacted] told us [redacted]. He locked my children and their personal truck in his compound and proceeded to try and take stuff out of our semi as that is how he was going to get his money was to take our personal belongings. This went on for a couple of hours before we finally were released and could head for home.Product_Or_Service: towingDesired SettlementThe companies web-site states that they deal directly with the Insurancecompanies. They claim to have rented a truck to tow the trailer. The truck rental was$1500, plus $339.00 Diesel Fuel, and $200.00 to wash the rental unit. This unit was rented from [redacted].I believe that [redacted] a refund is required. They e-mailed to state that no claim number was given, no name, no number. All of this information was availableBusiness Response our first call we received was on august 28 2015 stating they were broke down on the stoney rapids road at km marker 120. they stated they hit a rock and lost oil from the engine. they also said there driver had caught a ride to points north landing and we would need to pick him up as we went by there , being stoney rapids is north of there. they also gave me there drivers phone number saying we might have some cell coverage.any time we have calls in this remote area , we take extra time to plan the trip out with our driver and make sure we send out the right equipment to do the job properly. myself and my driver [redacted] decided that we would need to bring the client a running truck so he would be able to bring the semi trailer in, other wise it would be sitting on that narrow road unlit till his truck would be repaired and he would have to drive all the way back there to pick up and then return home back to Manitoba. as far as his damaged truck we also decided to load onto a flatbed to bring out so know further damage would occur on this rough road. also being it was up high on our trailer it would keep the dust and dirt out from his engine that has a hole in the oil pan.next I phoned there driver and told him what we had planned and also the cheaper options that were also available with the possibility of more damages. he agreed that our plan was the best and safest way for him to get back to prince albert. I also told him we wouldn't be leaving till the next day because [redacted] didn't have enough hours in his log book to go , and we also need time to find a rental truck. the time of day I talked to him was 5.00pm.the next morning when the shops all reopened I searched out for a rental. nothing was available ,nobody had a truck we could rent. contacted some local trucking companys and asked if they would rent me a truck. finally after a few hours I did make a deal to rent 1 from [redacted]. deal was we took it clean and also full of fuel and that was the way they wanted it returned.we loaded the rental onto our trailer and [redacted] left to go get this job done. when [redacted] arrived up there he texted me the engine serial number of the clients truck so I could get the parts ordered ahead of time so there would be less delay on the repair time.they arrived back at 1.00am sunday morning. august 30 2015 . [redacted] called me just after lunch on sunday with the details of the call. I asked him where the driver was, to inform that a ride was waiting for him when they got back and he had returned to Manitoba. being I had to return the rental truck before Monday morning I had to get 1 of my other employees to refuel (339 litre diesel) then have him take to car wash and wash then return to other trucking company for an extra. $200.00.invoice was faxed over to client on Monday morning. this is when things started to get sour. why so much to wash the truck [redacted] stated, I want to see the wash receipt and I also want the receipt for the truck rental and the fuel purchase. I told her it was on here invoice and it was all sub-let because the fuel was put thur on my fleet card which I only get a statement monthly as well as the wash card. she also doesn't realize that the time to wash and refuel truck had labour that needed to be payed. they could have also taken care of these tasks them selfs instead of leaving the truck in this state and bolting back to Manitoba.[redacted] in one of her many phone calls told me [redacted] was going to cover a portion of the towing invoice. I told here if the cheque didn't arrive by the time they were picking up there truck they would have to pay themselves. due to the fact I really didn't believe [redacted] was covering such a small amount of damage, that and anytime someone does put in an insurance claims the insurance adjuster always phones and and supplys claim numbers and confirms they are going to pay full invoice or what portion of the invoice. none of this happened. [redacted] again phoned on sept 4 2015 which was Friday afternoon. saying they were going to pick there unit up on Saturday. I told her that the bill needed to be payed before we would release being no cheque had arrived from [redacted]. I told here we were not releasing on a charge basics, that we needed to be payed for our services.well Saturday sept 5 2015 here family showed up. no cheque from [redacted] and a cheque for around $2800.00 from [redacted]'s trucking company that turns out to be post dated. I pointed this out to them and they became quite furious. the daughter grabbed the cheque and changed the date with her initals. I told them I did not feel comfortable taking this cheque being [redacted] signed and daughter did corrections and initialed. I told them how I was to know if the daughter had signing authority being on a weekend and not being able to check at bank. as a rule we do not even accept cheque other than from our clients that have accounts set up and they are paying there balances. the owner of the trucking company ended up paying the portion of the bill [redacted] was to. next we still had the $2800.00 portion to be paid and they said they had no other means of paying. I then was on the phone with [redacted] and asked to be payed by credit card. to be told that she had transferred the money from her credit card to her chequing account to cover the post dated cheque. this is when I stated I would be willing to take the $2800.00 debt out by removing parts from there truck so they wouldn't have to pay. [redacted]. [redacted]. [redacted] the owner of the semi trailer ended up paying the remainder by credit card. bill was paid and now they all seemed civil. I gave them directions to get back onto the highway to head home.from the time we got back into prince albert [redacted] they said [redacted] sent the cheque and I told them I would either credit [redacted] back or send back the insurance cheque. to date that cheque never arrived ,[redacted] I have reviewed the call from beginning to end and believe we provided service over and above for the dollar value they were charged and the conditions of road we traveled to preform this task. I acted professional and tried to work myself thur out this ordeal till the point of there strong arm technique of trying to bully me into releasing there truck to them unpaid, at that point I had enough and became demanding till I had payment in full.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)The truck was picked up on the 30th. The driver stayed in P.A. that night.[redacted] told him to park the truck and they would look after it later. Claim # [redacted], [redacted].Owner refused to take this information. They did not receive the cheque as I put a stop payment on it Tuesday morning. The cheque was stopped due to the fact that [redacted] paid the bill in full by credit card. This response still does not address why my family was locked in a compound, [redacted].My son-in-law's truck was also locked in the compound and it had nothing to do with this issue. We were told by [redacted] that the trailer would be released Saturday morning. [redacted]The cheque was dated for the next business day. [redacted].What was the problem [redacted] took a cheque for the repairs on the unit that were not covered by [redacted]?Final Business Response I basically said what I had to in my last email. the only thing I have to say is on [redacted]'s comment that [redacted] took there cheque without an issue. [redacted] head office is in Winnipeg man. and she may have had a work history with them prior, where as they were a first time customer out of province company for us. I made myself very clear on payment we would except days before her family came to pick up the unit. I don't know why they would be mad because I stood my ground until payment was received.
