Lakeside Animal Hospital, PLLC Reviews (1)

On June 6th, 2014 I called Lakeside Animal Hospital today at around 4:00pm after my dog got hit by a car. I told them he needed to be seen but at the moment he was not in a mental state that would allow me to safely transport him due to wanting to bite me or anyone who tried to touch him. His injuries were not life threatening. The lady on the phone told me they would be open till 8pm on this date and I could bring him in around 6pm and it would not be an issue. I called at 6pm to let them know I was still coming in now that my dog calmed down and they told me I could not bring him. They said they were open till 8pm but they wouldn't be able to close on time if I brought him in. Instead of driving just down the road, I had to drive 35 minutes with a screaming dog in the car due to us picking him up to be taken to the vet. My dog has been through enough trauma tonight and these people did not care. My animals are like my children and all these people cared about was closing on time. I do not know what kind of priorities these people have at this vet but I wouldn't have delayed treatment time if I would have known I would have been denied future treatment to my injured dog. I want everyone to know that these people do not care about animals. They did not care when I told them I would have to listen to a screaming dog for the entire 35 minute drive to the vet who was willing to see him. These people should not tell customers they are open till 8pm- at the same time they deny injured animals at 6:15pm so they have enough time to close. This clinic has terrible priorities.Desired SettlementI want this issue to be addressed and I want an apology.Business Response We received a call from a potential new client on Thursday June 5, 2014 just after 3pm. A gentleman called our hospital saying he had hit his dog in the driveway and believed the dog had a broken leg. He was informed we took walk-ins from 3pm-6pm and would be more than happy to see his pet during that time. He was worried about being bitten since the dog was so painful and new to the home. He told us he had administered 25mg of Tramadol, before calling us, and was waiting for it to take effect before he came in. He asked if he could give Domitor to his dog to sedate him further and he was advised not to give any other medications until a veterinarian was able to examine the pet. He was told multiple times over the phone during that conversation what our walk-in hours were. The gentleman called again at 6:05pm seeing if he could still bring his dog in. The receptionist informed him that it was past our walk-in hours and we would need to refer him to [redacted] Services for care. He became very agitated on the phone with the receptionist so he was put on hold and the owner of the practice spoke with him. He was informed that it was past our walk-in hours and we no longer had the staff to properly care for his pet at that point. We only had 2 technicians and 1 doctor on staff and we had 3 walk-ins currently waiting to be seen as well as 2 appointments. Dr. [redacted] tried several times to give him the information to the emergency hospital so he could contact them but he became increasingly combative over the phone, using profanity. At one point he asked if we would see his pet if he shot it in the head and dropped it off at our front door. After several attempts to try to get him to calm down and him becoming even more combative, Dr. [redacted] hung up the phone. He called back moments later. When Dr. [redacted] explained to him the way he was speaking was making her uncomfortable he asked if she was in kindergarten and stated he could say whatever he wanted. At that point, he was told we did not feel comfortable providing services to his pet due to his current behavior and the police would be called if he came in, for the safety of the staff. We are a business of women only and at that point it was later in the evening. We have had problems with combative clients in the past and have been in very vulnerable positions before, so we may be more cautious in regards to this. The gentleman finally took the information for the emergency hospital and hung up. A few minutes later a woman called saying she had hit her dog and wanted it to be seen giving very similar circumstances. She was told we currently did not have the staff to care for her pet and gave her the information to the emergency hospital as well. There was a gentleman heard in the background yelling and using profanity, which we believed to be the same man we had spoken with earlier.
