Lakeside Cabinets & Woodworking, Inc. Reviews (1)

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/12/07) */
Good Morning,
We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. On this particular project we are last inline but the only one that is working with [redacted]. We even tried to work with [redacted]'s previous finisher with no luck.
[redacted]'s original intent was to...

have the colors match the upstairs.
Lakeside was to provide finished cabinets to the color provided by the client. [redacted] provided a sticker from Sherwin Williams and said that was the color needed because the finisher had stained his basement trim and doors a different color than upstairs. Please see attached email stating facts about color provided.
Facts:
1. Lakeside provided all the cabinets in the original build upstairs. We could have matched that. That was not an option since [redacted] Construction hired by [redacted] had stained the interior doors and trim in the basement a different color than upstairs even though that was not the original intent. That is why [redacted] needed to provide the label from Sherwin Williams for the color [redacted] Construction used. As per [redacted]'s email [redacted] Construction had to make three trips to the house to "compare stain colors" and still was not able to match the upstairs.
2. We contacted and were working with Sherwin Williams District manager to help [redacted] resolve the issue. Sherwin Williams stated the color on the cabinets matches the label provided by [redacted]. The Sherwin Williams Rep said in order to get any other color the formula had to be altered by [redacted] Construction. This explains why [redacted] had to make three trips to the house. This information was not shared with Lakeside. This would have thrown up red flags since all paint providers state you can bring in any label and get a match for any paint or stain.
3. On 11/20/15 [redacted] and I had a conversation and we agreed that I would spend our resources to help him even though Lakeside was not at fault. This would be done provided [redacted] paid $2000 of the $3971 still left due. [redacted] did not do this and Lakeside still spent its resources working with the other reps to find a solution.
4. After 11/20/15 [redacted] states the negotiations stalled. That is false. On 11/25/15 Lakeside reached out to [redacted] and let him know we were still working with Sherwin Williams. Lakeside was continually working on finding a resolution for [redacted]. On 12/1/15 we contacted [redacted] with our findings. We received an email from [redacted] on 12/3/15 and we responded the next morning. Please see original email with response from next morning attached. Followed by the actual [redacted] response.
5. In all the responses with [redacted], Lakeside has worked to try and help [redacted]. We are the only one that is trying to help [redacted].
In closing Lakeside followed the direction of [redacted] and provided exactly what he requested. Sherwin William a national company has stated your cabinets are the color on the label provide to Lakeside Cabinets. Lakeside Cabinets put together an offer in line with our company mission statement. Lakeside Cabinets has no fault and proposed this offer. Here is the offer that was provided to [redacted]. Lakesides cost to replace the cabinets not including install is $6000. This is the hard material and labor costs. Lakeside has advocated on [redacted]'s behalf, and got Sherwin Williams to pay $3000.00 towards the cost of the new cabinets. Lakeside agreed to pay $2000.00 leaving $1000. [redacted] would have ownership of both sets of cabinets and would need to have them installed. He could go after [redacted] for the $1000 if he chose. I think this is more than fair and wonder why it even got to this point.
If any other information or if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at any point.
Thank you
Troy
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/12/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Good Morning-
I am not satisfied with the response from Lakeside Cabinets and will continue to work diligently until the cabinet issue is resolved.
Here is my response to Lakeside Cabinets email Revdex.com Complaint/Response:
I asked Lakeside Cabinets if they could build, stain and install cabinets in my home to match my current wood work in my basement. Their response was yes. I choose to enter into a contractual agreement with Lakeside Cabinets because they said they could provide me the desired cabinets. I was pleased with the cabinets they had provided in the upper level of my home when it was built in 2012. This was why I chose to have Lakeside Cabinets build, finish and install the cabinets in my basement instead of choosing a local competitor.
When Adam came to my home to look at the area and take measurements, I showed Adam my upstairs cabinets to compare the design and style of my cabinets. At this time I specifically told Adam that the stain color was different in basement than in the rest of my home. I showed Adam this by pointing out that the stair case skirt boards and some window trim had already been installed from a previous contractor. I offered Adam a piece of stained trim at the time and he declined to take it and stated he would come back out in a few weeks to get a piece of stained wood.
As for Joe [redacted] Construction, he matched the doors and trim currently to what was currently installed in my basement NOT my upstairs. I did NOT request the stain to match my upstairs because the stair case skirt boards, and window trim were already installed. I needed the stain to match the installed wood in my basement. Joe [redacted] Construction made several appointments to make sure that the color of the doors and trim he was going to install matched that of what was already placed in my basement. Joe [redacted] Construction completed the required work with the desired finish. Any further argument about [redacted] Construction is null and void.
Per the original contractual agreement with Lakeside Cabinets they were to provide, CABINETS, STAINED AND INSTALLED. This contractual agreement has been broken by the acts of Lakeside cabinets or their hired sub-contractors. (Stain company or Sherwin Williams)
As a homeowner and customer I have many questions.
1. What could I have done differently to make sure this did not happen?
a. I did not hire the sub-contractors for Lakeside Cabinets. I did not build, stain or install any part of the cabinets myself, which is why I requested Lakeside Cabinets to do this when I entered into a contractual agreement. I am not a cabinet maker, painter/stainer or installer.
b. I offered a piece of finished trim that matched that of my basement with the desired color at my first meeting with Adam.
c. When requested by Lakeside Cabinets for a piece of trim, I offered what was given to me from Sherwin Williams as the right stain code for the finished trim and doors in my basement provided by Sherwin Wiliams. This stain code is what was on the invoice provided by Sherwin Williams along with the original can of stain from Sherwin Williams. After providing the stain code, there was no further requests from Lakeside for a piece of stained wood to match. Was I supposed to stain a sample piece myself, and test what I provided to Lakeside Cabinets?
d. I did not enter into a contractual agreement for cabinets that did not match the rest of the wood work in my basement.
e. I did not enter into an agreement that included stain runs and drips all over my cabinets. I did not ask for chipped and cracked wood on my wine rack. I did not enter into a contractual agreement to finish the cabinets myself and wipe them down after the stain was applied which was never done according to Adam from Lakeside cabinets by their stain contractors.
f. As far as payment to Lakeside Cabinets, when the owner of the company tells you that his only option is to take you to court and write off part of the owed amount as bad debt, he made me believe that he wanted his money and would walk away after receiving a check and not remedy the problem.
2. The question remains, when someone enters into a contractual agreement with a business for a product and its agreed upon to a specific color etc, why is it the customers responsibility to pay extra for a mistake that was not created by customer?
3. I give this example:
a. If you damage your black car in a car accident and bring your car to an auto body shop to have a new fender put on and painted to match your black car this is what you should expect. The body shop agrees that they can do that. You enter into an agreement with the body shop to have this work done and give them half down and they cash your check. When you go back to pick up your car instead of a black fender to match your black car, now you have a green fender. The excuse given by the auto body shop is that well the paint code placed on the door of the car from the manufacturer said green and we never checked or compared the fender before we put it on your car. If you would like a black fender on your black car to match you can now pay us not only the agreed upon amount for the green fender, but you would also owe us 1/3 of the cost of a new black fender.
In ending, I entered into a contractual agreement with Lakeside Cabinets for them to build, stain and install cabinets to match the woodwork in my basement. I did not enter into any contractual agreements with painters, strainers, sub-contractors, etc. to complete this cabinet project. The responsibility lies solely with Lakeside Cabinets. When the issues arose it would be on the shoulders of Lakeside Cabinets who entered into the contractual agreement to remedy this issue with its contractors. As Adam and Troy have already discussed, they have negotiated with Sherwin Williams and have received or are willing to receive money from Sherwin Williams.
I have offered (2) resolutions to this disagreement and have yet to receive any response.
1. They completed the desired cabinets with proper stain color to match and install them and remove their old cabinets that I do not want for the original agreed upon contract and meet the terms of the original contracted price.
Or
2. Remove the cabinets from my home and refund my check amount that they cashed.
Part of their negotiations was to have me remove and sell the old cabinets. I am not a cabinet business or sales business of cabinets.
Looking forward to your response.

Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/12/15) */
We have Made a fair offer to [redacted].
[redacted] did ask Lakeside to provide cabinets, in the stain color he provided, and install them. Lakeside did just that. We have no control that his previous contractor Ackerly altered the finish provided by Sherwin Williams. Furthermore neither [redacted] nor [redacted] shared the information that they did so. [redacted] provided the sticker to duplicate the stain via previous email attached.
We requested a stain sample and [redacted] provide the photo of the label. Adam also said in his email that he could stop by. Here is [redacted]'s response "
Adam-
Here is the stain code that was used for all of the wood doors and trim in my basement. I would like the same color on my cabinets if that is possible.
If you have further questions or need an emailed copy from sherwin Williams of the stain color please let me know and I will be able to contact them to get the stain info emailed to you.
Sent from my iPhone" This is directly from an email from [redacted]. Telling us what to stain the cabinets. [redacted] should be going after [redacted] Construction as they are the ones who altered the finish without telling [redacted]. [redacted] is going after us because we are the only ones willing to help and communicating with him.
A. What [redacted] should do differently: provide good information. It is not [redacted]'s fault [redacted] modified the stain without telling [redacted] but that proves that [redacted] is at fault.
B. Adam did request the sample and [redacted] sent over the response above. A defined answer from the client as to what they want.
C. [redacted] provided the label from Sherwin Williams that was mixed for [redacted] Construction and then [redacted] Construction modified the mixture without telling [redacted]. We had no need to request anything after [redacted] gave us the defined direction above in the quotes.
d. The agreement was for [redacted] to provide the color of the finish he wanted and when we requested the sample he provided the above answer in quotes.
Here is the request for the sample that [redacted] responded to. "Good morning [redacted],
Wondering if I could meet up with you and grab a sample door/drawer front to give to our finisher for a stain sample? I would be willing to stop by and pick it up so I can get it to the finisher & keep your project moving.
Let me know when I can grab that sample, and I will stop by and grab it.
Have a great day, I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank You,
Adam
[redacted] responded with the label. No mention of meeting up. Just that "Here is the stain code that was used for all of the wood doors and trim in my basement. I would like the same color on my cabinets if that is possible."
E. We would be happy to do any touch ups like we always do as the final steps in any project. This is a common practice in construction. This could be done if [redacted] paid his bill in full. Less any funds Received from Sherwin Williams as they too have tried to help [redacted].
F. Is just taking words out of content. I could also share all the things [redacted] said but that would be petty. Our goal is to make [redacted] happy but he is asking Lakeside to clean up 100% of the problem that was not created by Lakeside. We have made a more than fair offer to replace all the cabinets finished to a new color and delivered to the house. He would own two sets. The only shortfall is $1000 that he should go after [redacted] Construction. The ones who altered the mixture of stain from the label.
3. [redacted]'s example is perfect. In that black car is a paint code that body shops and the manufactures use to match the paint. That would be the same as the label [redacted] provided for the cabinets. THANK YOU [redacted] FOR POINTING THIS OUT.
Our offer still stands to help [redacted]. I only wish he would take a step back and look who actually provided the wrong information to him.
Thank you Troy
