our practice. The emphasis of our office is the compassionate [redacted] and treatment of all patients. Any additional tests or procedures performed are part of the evaluation and treatment process. We absolutely do not perform extra procedures merely to bill more. All office visits and procedures are billed with strict adherence to insurance rules and regulations. In this instance, any amount due from the patient is a direct result of his specific insurance policy, and we are contractually obligated to follow the insurance policy guidelines and rules. The additional balance due to our office is the result of the patient's annual deductible not being met yet. UCSF is a separate entity, and therefore the bill from them is not under our control. There are many variables involved with medical insurance policies including copays, coinsurance, deductibles, out of pocket maximums, etc. We urge all patients to become familiar with their specific insurance policy, as this will help them estimate any out of pocket costs that may come up each year.

I do not accept the response from Lakeside Dermatology. They mention how their emphasis is compassionate [redacted] and treatment of all patients yet [redacted] Do has refused to call me back after I have tried to contact her multiple times. Extra procedures are being performed since [redacted] Do recommended I come in again to examine an area she misdiagnosed just so she can refer me to a specialist. It doesn't make sense for me to make another office visit when she can tell me over the phone especially since she was apparently taking notes the entire time during my visit. This office believes that my balance after my insurance covers some of the cost is the issue when I'm complaining about the cost of the procedure itself without insurance. It seems this office uses the medical insurance policy as an excuse to not disclose the price of the procedure. I suggest the payment specialist spend more time to understand copays, coinsurance, deductibles, etc... to relay that information to the patient whenever [redacted] Do is going to perform a service rather than having the expectation that the patient understands all the costs. Any reasonable person can conclude that [redacted] Do never performed a procedure on me if they witnessed what she did. [redacted] Do never told me there would be an additional cost in performing this service. The fact is that Lakeside Dermatology is very opaque about its costs. It performs services without disclosing how they are going to charge the patient. No one just gets work done on their car without the mechanic explaining what the costs will be for each service he performs. The consumer then decides after if they want the service of not. I still expect Lakeside Dermatology to remove the $198 procedure cost since no procedure was ever done.
