I called Lakeside service to see if I could bring my pontoon in to be worked on on June 8th 2018. She said to bring it in on Sat the 9th. Which we did. I told the girl there that I had changed the spark plugs and fuel filter..but that did not help and we believe its the power pack. She called on the 11th and left a message that it needed a power pack and it would be $500. I called back and said ok fix it. Never got a call that it was anything else. The young girl called on Friday the 15th and said it was ready. I asked what the damage was and she said $956 dollars and if you bring cash bring $900. I said oh lord you just about gave me a stroke. I asked why. She said oh he had to rebuild carbs and fuel pump. I told her it would be Monday before I could get there. I picked it up on Monday the 18th. We put it in the water that Sat the 23rd and it would not go in revers We took it out that Sunday the 24th. It ran but when we would stop it would cut off and we had to let it drift back due to no reverse. I took it out of the water. On Monday morning on my way to work I went by the shop with the pontoon at around 6:30 in the morning. Had to leave it in the grass by the fence adjacent to business next door because there was no place else to leave it. I called the business around 8:30 to let them know it was there and what was wrong. They called later that day and said it was ready. I went by at 6:00 pm to pick it up. She said no charge he adjusted carb and cable. Took it home. Put it in the water Sat June 30th and no water stream. Water pump not working. Took it back out of the water on Sunday the 1st. Took back by shop on way to work that Monday morning July 2nd. Left it in the same place. I called the shop number later that morning and got answering machine. The recording was messed up but it said they would be closed but no dates on recording. I left message. I went back by after work to pick it up since they were not there. George the owner was there and the pontoon was inside the fence. I told him I came to get it. He was very rude and said they were closed and he had to drive up there to put it in the fence. He said he was going to charge me. I told him I came to get it and didnt know they were closed. He said it was on their face boom and web page. I told him I work and hadnt been on fb. I again said just give me the boat, I got someone who is going to look at it. He said no its in the fence I will fix it in the morning. I asked how much it would be and he said $150. I said call me if its anything else. The next morning around 11:00 I sent my wife to the shop since I had not heard anything from them. She went by at 11:30 and no one was there and pontoon was in the same spot. I left them a message around 3:30. I went by after work and pontoon still in same spot. I called the number and left another message. I then called the sheriffs office to see if they could call them to just give me the pontoon. The left the shop a message. The next morning she called at around 8 and said she left me a message the day before and said it was ready. I never got a call or message from them. I told her ww were on the way. When got there he said it was $230. He said he vented the gas tank, put on impeller, and changed to foot oil. He also charged $70 for work on a Holiday. He had also made the comment to us in the shop office that running the boat without water was like dragging your nuts across the pavement. He then said I would not want to drag my nuts across the pavement for one second. The comment was really in bad taste. I wrote a check and we left. Later that day we put the boat in the lake and went out on it. Rode for approx 30 mins. Pulled up at a dock and cut it off. Approx 20 mins later went to crank it and it would not start. We all smelled gas and it was dripping gas in the water. After about 10 mins I got it started. We rode for a bit and cut it off several more times and it started. A little later we cut it off again and the same thing happened and would not start and gas dripping out. I finally got it started and went back to out dock. I took the cover off to look for the source of the gas. I found the lower carb leaking gas. The next day, July 5th I called George on his cell phone number that he gave me that was on the business card. I left message. I also sent video and asked what I need to do. I also left message on shop phone. To this day I have not received a call back. A rew days later I stopped payment on the check due to it not being fixed or useable. I put a negative review on his fb page telling people not to use the shop and what had happened. He left rude comments. He never offered to make it right. Now I have to pay someone else to fix it. I am out $900 and cant use it. Took it there 3 different times and always something else wrong. He also told me I needed new cables which I already knew and told him well I dont have the money for that right noe I will replace them this winter when I take it out. He said they may break. I said they may not. He also said in his rude comments that the carb problem was the gas tank vent. He said he fixed that and I also have receipt stating that he did. I read reviews on this place after all this and several people said the same thing about this shop. I also had other people I know tell me he did them the same way. I just want the $400 back he charged without asking if he could do the work since I have to pay someone else. If this is not resolved I will seek action in Magistrate Small claims court for it not running and loss of its use.

I found this business by doing a web search. I called the lady at Lakeside and explained that I wanted my boat repaired. I dropped it off April 27, 2018, I drove 1 1/2 hours to drop the boat off. They called on May 3, 2018 saying (it ain`t worth fixin) I told them I would come pick it up as soon as I could get there. They never gave me a quote or told me exactly what was wrong with the engine. I went to pick it up on May 12 & a sign was posted on the gate that said they were closed from May 12-21. I called the emergency contact number on the gate & left a message that I was there & they were closed (Nowhere on the website did it say anything about the shop being closed during that time). I finally got a chance to drive back down there again on June 1.( I only received that one phone call on May 3). I told the owner that I brought my boat there to be fixed & I didn`t care how much it cost. He said he would fix it but I was already skeptical of his business since they never have told me the problem the motor has. I got home & received a letter saying they were going to start charging storage. I have worked in the Powersports Industry for 23 years & I am a Ceritfied motorcycle & watercraft mechanic. I`ve never had a worse experience in my life. My reason for writing this review is in hopes that innocent people do not get ripped off by this scam!!!

I dropped my boat off May 5th 2018 to have a diagnostic done on the motor they informed me they was busy and they would get to it the following Wednesday May 9th and call me to let me know what was wrong with it before they performed any work I never got a phone call they also told me they would be on vacation from May the 14th through May the 20th and I told them that was fine so I call there shop Monday May 21st to find out my issue the lady told me I owed nearly $1000 for the part and labor that I was never told about the conversation went on to the part they ordered without my knowing hasn’t even arrived yet so I asked her how much was my diagnostic fee and I didn’t want them to fix it I would fix my self she got an attitude hung up on me and I’ve called and left several voicemails and my wife has too and no one will call me back all I want is my boat back without any further damages

Lakeside Repair Response • May 24, 2018

First I'm going to say that he did not tell me to call to let him know what it was that we found wrong. He actually told me he thought it was the stator or trigger, per my notes on the Repair Authorization form; therefore why would I call him if the problem was the stator. We did go on vacation & he was told that before he left it. I told him "the part ordered was around $500 & with the labor it would total around $1000; but don't quote me on that. I am not sure as to exactly how much the right part is." He did ask about just paying for the diagnostic fee & the part since it was already ordered, but he did not tell me not to fix it and I did not hang up on him. I told him I would have to get with the owner/mechanic on that quote & call him back. I spoke with him on 5/23 and explained that our phone was messed up the day before and I did get his messages, along with several others, but we were so slammed and I did not return any calls. And his boat is done, it did not cost as much as I had told him on the other part, and his bill was only $500. He was fine with it & happy. He came to pay and pick it up today and was really happy with it. I asked him what was he going to do about this complaint he filed. He said he was going to change it.

I took my pontoon boat to this business 3 times to have the same thing repaired ! the last time the owner said he didn't have time for it and told me to leave it again ! I told him it was taking to much to return it to him to get the repair done ! 3 times I went and the same results ! there were other things that were not completed from this company ! carpet recover on the trailer and Teflon tape on joints off fuel system was not correctly installed ! owner seen that himself ! however I would just like the $150.00 back on the carburetor service that was never conducted properly !

This customer came in on 5/22/17 (invoice # ***) to have his toons cleaned, carpet replaced on his trailer and an estimate on a bimini top, picked it up the next day & paid, with no complaints. He then came back on 7/12/17 (invoice # ***) and said he thought it was the carbs because when it idled down, it would stall out. It would crank back after 2 or 3 tries. He also asked us to check the electric choke because it wasn't working and also the fuel line. We replaced the fuel line and fitting using clamps. We also synced and linked the carbs. Did not charge him for a carb job or carb repair kits because it was running good enough not to have one. He picked it up on 7/17/17 and paid $150. He turned around, brought it back, and said it was doing the same thing (invoice # ***). We lake tested it and did not see where there was any problems. It was running perfect and he was not charged. He brought it back on 7/31/17 and said it still was doing the same thing. We told him to leave it and G (owner/operator/mechanic) would take it for a test. Mr. C wanted G to leave his current job and another customer to go with him right then and there to lake test it with him so he could show him what it was doing. G told him he did not have time right now, leave it and he would take it out later and went back to his customer. Mr. C then said it takes to much of his time and gas bringing it back and forth, he didn't even finish the carpet on the trailer (which this is the first we have heard of this), and he would count his losses and left with the boat. Later in the evening, he posted a negative review on our Facebook page, threatening to take us to court. He was told to leave it and we would fix it. I am not willing to give him his money back because the work was done. It is about a 20 year old motor, that is only really built to last 10 years, and I have tried to fix it and it was running perfect for me. It did not stall out like he said it did, but would have continued to look for a problem if he had left it with me on 7/31/17, like I asked. I am thinking it could be operator error.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.

I haven't had time to respond ! every time I got a call saying that motor was repaired I paid when I was suppose to ! after the third time of them trying to fix the problem I was in it for over another $100 in gas to go get and take it out to see if it was fixed ! the last time I told him befor I left it was going to be a week or so befor I could take it out to see if it was fixed ! it wasn't !!! also the second time my wife and I had a mechanic out on the boat and he told us to bring it back ! now why would he do that ? because it was not working properly ! in fact the owner told me there was 2 gaskets left in it when there should have been only 1 ! it was doing the same thing it had been doing since the first time of this account ! not the other things that where never completed .. ie the trailer , the fuel lines ect !

Mr. C is not being truthful at all and every time, some other problem is added. I do not see how he is in over $100 in gas to get & take it out when our shop is not even a quarter mile from the closest boat ramp; also the fact that he comes to Lake Greenwood to get on the water anyway. He has brought his boat to us only four times and every time states he doesn't want to put a lot of money in it; has told me to hold off on some things saying he'll get it done later. The first time was on 4/14/2017 for a foot service, fuel filter & spark plugs (nothing about carbs), picked up & paid $175 cash the same day. He brought it back in on 5/22 to have the toons cleaned, carpet replaced on trailer, and an estimate on a new bimini top; picked up next day, paid $210 cash; no complaints about carpet not being done. He brought it back on 7/12 saying it would stall out when idle down & would take 2 - 3 times before it would crank back, check the choke because its not working, thinks it needs new fuel line & carbs. Our mechanics checked everything he asked, replace 3 ft of fuel line & the fuel fitting. It was running good & didn't need a carb job (was not charged for one or the carb repair kits). The carbs needed to be synced & linked, which we did. We left a message on his voicemail 7/12 @ 11:28 am saying his boat is done. He picked up & paid $150 cash on 7/17 (only 5 days later, not a week or so). He brought it back an hour or so later & said it was doing the same thing & it was not fixed. I believe this is when one of our mechanics went with him on a test drive. The mechanic states he told Mr. C it may need some adjusting, its not stalling out, but if he wants to bring it back we will do some adjusting. So that's what Mr. C did. There was some adjusting of the carbs & idling, lake tested, and no problems; it was running as perfect as a 24 year old motor can. He was called, told it was done, lake tested, & running perfect; no charge. He came & picked it up on 7/19. G told him there was 2 gaskets in the carb & there should have only been 1 & was found when the mechanics adjusted the carbs. In all this time, Mr. C has not said anything about the carpet not being done, nor anything about the fuel lines (this complaint to Revdex.com is the first of the fuel lines). I would like to point out nothing was said on the first complaint about the fuel lines not being finished & had they not been finished like he says, the motor would not run at all. However, he brought the boat back 7/31 said it was doing same thing & we have not fixed it. He was asked to leave it & G would lake test it himself. But, Mr. C wanted G to leave his current job and the customer he was with right then to go with him to lake test it, so he could show him what it was doing. G told him he was busy & did not have time right now, leave it, he will take it out later & had to get back to his customer. Mr. C wasn't happy, said takes to much time and gas bringing it back and forth & the carpet wasn't even finished (first time hearing this complaint). He also stated he was going to count his losses & then left with his boat. Again, I am not willing to reimburse his money for work that was done by my shop, especially since the boat has ran perfect for us. However, I would have continued to look for the problem he insists is there had he left it with me 7/31. This problem could possibly be somewhere else other than carbs, fuel, or even the motor (if there is one). Most customers usually tell us to go through the entire boat & make everything work the way it suppose to. Mr. C just wanted us to do certain things at certain times on his boat, motor, and/or trailer. We are sorry that he is having difficulties with his boat, but there again, it has ran great for me. I have attached 4/14/17 invoice# 845671 and notes in our QuickBooks for invoice# 014554. I had sent the other invoices with the first response. If there are any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

Customer Response

I took the boat to another service center today and the mechanic there is taking pictures of the work that needed done that was not ! carburetor was not cleaned ! like I wanted on 7-12 and the next time I returned it to be fix as it was suppose to be acid dipped ! lakeside lied about acid dipping the carbs as well ! if they do not wish to return the money that was given to them for the service that was suppose to be done on 7-12 I will be forced to take them to small claims court !

Customer Response

I have pictures from the new service center and he and the pics verify that the Carbs where not cleaned ! and by reading lakesides own copies of the receipts you can see that the initial reason I took the boat to them was to have this service done ! they can not blame operator error when their own mechanic said to bring it back the second time ! this shows the lack of management to verify the service was completed ! and it was suppose to have been lake tested the first time ! if it was they would have found that when idling into dock the engine would stall ! that was told to Mr M when it was delivered to lakeside during the last three attemps to have it fixed ! and on the third time he was obviously not going to listen to my attemps to tell him the problem or actually see with his own eyes or listen with his own ears what the problem was by either going out on the boat with me or running it on site ! I was cutting my losses by not continuing to allow them to have me bring it back pick it up and bring it back a third time costing me money and time ! this is my last attempt to get the refund from them ! court proceedings will begin today when I go to pick up the boat today ! thank you Revdex.com for trying to rectify this ! but I know some people are hard to deal with !

Customer Response

proof the carbs where not cleaned !

Lakeside Repair Response

Mr. C was never charged for cleaning the carbs and never said anything about acid dipping. The only thing we did was sync, link (make all carbs do the same thing by adjusting them), and adjust them. You can look on the invoices to see it does not state anywhere that we cleaned the carbs. And as I said in both replies, they did not need cleaned, so why would we do something that does not need to be done? Our mechanic did go out on a lake test with him and told him it was not stalling out. More adjusting was done and it was lake tested again (to please customer) with no charge to Mr. C. But why did he wait a week and a half to bring it back again the last time? As far as the pictures go, first and foremost - there is no way to be sure those are his carbs; second - if those are his carbs, this could have happened between the time he picked it up from us on 7/19 and now since it took him a week and a half to bring it back on 7/31.

Regards,

C*** C see you in court !

I took my pontoon to this business to have carburetor repairs. They called the next day to say it was ready. We picked our pontoon up paid $950.00 . I was charged for 4 spark plugs the first time along with Labor. About a week later we put the pontoon in water to find that it run just as bad as it did when we took it. We returned the pontoon back to this business and they called back and told it was ready. We picked it back up was told they replaced spark plugs again(that was replaced a week earlier according to them) and a new battery ( that it did not need) and was charged a additional $200. The gentleman had a bad attitude and did not want to listen to what I had to say. After spending almost $1000 for basically spark plugs and a battery, I still have a pontoon that still is not running good. We have since talked with others about this business and we did not hear any good things about this business. We should have checked before taking, our mistake there. All in all a bad experience and would not recommend taking anything there to be repaired.
