Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
Lakewood Ford seems to have me confused with some other customer they are trying to take advantage of or they are fabricating what happened in order to make themselves look less inadequate. So for the sake of Lakewood Ford to assist them with their apparent confusion I will AGAIN explain EXACTLY what happened so that they can start getting the story straight on their side cause this version is a little different than the last one they told me. If they are still confused after this I welcome any questions to help fill in the details on what they may be still confused about.
As I was driving to work with my wife in the car I merged into the car pool lane in 70 mph traffic when all of a sudden I had a dramatic loss of power and the car quickly slowed to about 25 mph. Two cars behind me skidded to a halt nearly hitting me. I managed to get over and limp it off the freeway made it to the parking lot of my workplace which is in Bellevue. That is where I decided to call Lakewood ford to see if they could help me. Let me clear about this AT NO POINT WAS I AT ANOTHER SHOP. I have absolutely no idea where they're getting that I took it to another shop and they were trying to charge me $100. THAT NEVER HAPPENED, NEVER, EVER. I hope that helps with their confusion. So I called Lakewood ford and told them my issue. The receptionist connected me to the service manager and I told him what had happened. He said that if I could get it down there they would do a diagnostic for $120 (approx I dont remember the exact amount). Nobody EVER explained ANYTHING about hybrids being more difficult to do a diagnostic on. I told him that I had just purchased the vehicle 3 months prior and wasnt there anything he could do to help me out. He said "only the person who sold you the car can do that, you have to talk to him". I was getting upset at his unwillingness to help me but I figured id try what he suggested. So I hung up the phone and called the other ford location were Desean worked who sold me the car. He was unavailable and I had to start work and starting to get more irritated sio I called the main location back and got connected with the service manager again. I told him that I couldnt get ahold of him but if they were unwilling to assist me I didnt want the car anymore and asked if I fell under any kind of lemon law which he said I didnt qualify for. So getting more agitated I said I didnt even want the car and would rather just bring it down and return it to which he replied "ok fine we can do the diagnostic for you for free" so I guess he had the authority to do it the whole time he just wanted to waste my time but I thanked him for helping.
Since I had to work and we just bought a car so we couldnt afford a tow truck my wife limped the car all the way from Bellevue to Lakewood ford and they did a diagnostic and found out a $327 part had stopped working and told her it would be over $1000 to make it safe to drive again without loss of power of risking permanently damaging the hybrid battery. She called me and told me and I said absolutely no way was that acceptable that they charge us over $1000 to fix a car we JUST bought. I told her I had to go and hung up the phone. As I was helping customers my work phone rings again and it is my wife. She tells me that the guy she is dealing with demands to speak with me. I said I couldnt I was with customers but he continued to demand to speak with me. So she puts him on the phone and he asks why I didnt get the warranty and I said it was WAY too expensive and I hadnt anticipated that it was their business strategy to sell broken vehicles and then price gouge the customer to fix it. He replied "well what do you want ME to do about it" then proceeded to argue with me about it over the phone to which my managers stepped in, demanded I get off the phone while with customers, then gave me a written warning about it later. It was at this point all my patience was gone.
My wife met with the manager and asked since it was so expensive to fix the car would they be willing to work out any kind of payment plan because we had JUST dropped $3000 on the car and JUST got married 2 weeks earlier and JUST moved from hawaii (which is an obscenely expensive move) and he said no it had to be paid all at once but she could use her credit card. I'm not sure if he was being condescending at that point or assuming she was stupid but sure had a sarcastic feel to it. She said there was no way we could afford it so he "worked" on it and came back with the amount of $721. We are bottom of the barrel broke due to our move and couldnt afford that even if we wanted to so sh left and limped the vehicle home.
I get off work and she tells me about their "offer" so I call and speak with the manager. I let him CLEARLY know that charging me $721 to fix a $327 part was unacceptable ESPECIALLY considering I JUST bought the vehicle not to mention it's THEIR shop doing the work so if I pay for the part the labor on the repairs cost them $0. Of course he says I'm getting an amazing deal and theres nothing he can do. So that was the end of the conversation
If they had any integrity and cared about the customer at all they wouldnt have been so difficult about this whole unfortunate situation but here we are. They SHOULD do the repairs for free but since I'm reasonable I submit a counter offer. I pay for the part and pay them $100 flat for the labor. No extra charges, fees, etc. They still win and I still lose. This way I just lose a lot less than they were trying to make me in the first place. It's like a free $100 for them for selling a broken car! However if the reality of me losing less in this situation is unacceptable for them then I guess that makes it crystal clear where there professional priorities lie.sincerely, [redacted]
