I am formally responding to Revdex.com Complaint #(*** ***) on behalf of Lamar University President *** ***. On or about the first week of April, 2015, Dr*** received a letter of complaint from Ms*** *** in reference to her son, *** *** of Cypress,
Texas. In the letter, according to Lamar records, and during a telephone call I had with Ms*** on April 17, 2015, it was noted that *** had applied to and been accepted for admission by Lamar University for the fall, semester. A room in Lamar’s Cardinal Village residence halls had been reserved by *** for the 2013-academic year. *** never attended Lamar, nor was the university notified that he would not attend, so, by Lamar Housing Office policy, a $cancellation fee was charged to his Lamar account. The fee was never paid. After a period of time, this obligation, like all other such delinquent accounts, was turned over to a collection agency (firm of ***, ***, and ***, Incof Rock Hill, South Carolina) and Ms*** apparently received correspondence from the firm requesting payment. Ms*** then wrote her letter to Dr*** complaining about the charges (now, $with fees)On behalf of President ***, I called Ms*** on April 17th (nine days after the Revdex.com complaint) to respond. Since *** never enrolled and in the interest of good will, I (as an agent for Lamar) apologized for the charges, had the charges removed from ***’s account, and called the account back from the collection agency. According to Lamar financial records, *** presently has, and has had since April, a zero balance (as of 5-21-15). I also wished *** and Ms*** well. Ms*** thanked me, I notified President *** by email, and we assumed all was well until the earlier-dated Revdex.com complaint appeared this week. Lamar’s Director of Student Financial Aid reported to me that Lamar’s office has notes and copies of the required tax returns submitted by ***’s parents to establish federal Title IV aid eligibility, and Lamar stands by the accuracy of the information given to Ms***. Of course, no financial aid was ever posted for *** at Lamar. I will add in closing that Lamar’s financial aid counselors are well trained, receive continuous professional development, and have worked successfully with tens of thousands of students. Regards,*** B***, Ph.D.Senior Associate Provost

Complaint:

according to an email sent on January from a Mrs*** *** it states Lamar University accepts
payments but does it without a formal agreementIt also states that I may not have my official transcript sent over to the university of my choice. So I have to respectively disagree because Lamar did not send an official transcript as they have stated they only sent an unofficial transcriptI have attached the letter that was sent to me. Sincerely,*** ***

On behalf of Lamar University, I am formally responding to Revdex.com Complaint #10642850 submitted by [redacted].  On June 11, 2015, President [redacted] received an email from the Revdex.com regarding a complaint from Ms. [redacted] in reference to her delinquent account at Lamar...

University.  Dr. [redacted] asked me to investigate and respond.  In the Revdex.com complaint, Ms. [redacted] requests “a record and transcript of my [Ms. [redacted]’s] account” and Lamar would be happy to provide both; indeed, both should be available to her online.   If she prefers, she may contact Lamar University’s Finance Office (c/o Ms. [redacted] at ([redacted] or [redacted].[redacted]@Lamar.edu) to discuss her outstanding obligation from August 2012.  Lamar would be very willing to explain our records and discuss possible resolutions to her situation.   Moreover, Ms. [redacted] can discuss with her provisions of our contract with the collection agency (firm of [redacted], and [redacted], Inc. of Rock Hill, [redacted]). According to Lamar records, Ms. [redacted] received mail notification of the debt from Lamar and has had access to her financial records online since she first enrolled.  After a grace period of time, this obligation, like all other such delinquent accounts at Lamar, was turned over to the collection agency, and Ms. [redacted] apparently received correspondence from the firm requesting payment. As a note, [redacted], and [redacted], Inc. is not a law firm as she indicates, but a debt collection agency widely used among public universities in Texas.  I also asked Lamar University’s Office of Student Financial Aid to re-examine Ms. [redacted]’s account for accuracy and compliance with Federal law and regulations, and the Office stands by its calculations, actions, and possesses supporting documentation.    I will add in closing that Lamar would be very happy to discuss Ms. [redacted] situation with her and attempt to arrive at a reasonable solution.  I encourage her to talk with Ms. [redacted] at the above-listed contacts.  Thank you.  Regards, [redacted], Ph.D. Senior Associate [redacted]

January 25, 2016 [redacted], Dispute Resolution Associate Revdex.com Serving Southeast Texas 550 Fannin, Suite 100 Beaumont, Texas  77701 Re:  Complaint #11079947 by [redacted] L. [redacted] Dear Ms. [redacted], On behalf of Lamar University, I am formally responding to Revdex.com Complaint...

#11079947 by Ms. [redacted] L. [redacted].  On January 10, 2016, Lamar University received an email from the Revdex.com of Southeast Texas regarding a complaint by Ms. [redacted] in reference to her admissions at Lamar University. In the complaint, Ms. [redacted] requests “a refund of [her] application fee due to the false advertisement…or acceptance into the [Counseling and Development Certificate] program…”. Lamar agrees to refund her application fee at the Hallsville, Texas address listed in her grievance.  According to Interim Department Chair [redacted], the website was changed several weeks ago to reflect the 48-hour master’s degree requirement. The incorrect information in the advertisement was not due to intentional false advertising, though it was inaccurate.  I will add in closing that Lamar would be very happy to discuss Ms. [redacted]’s situation with her further and attempt to arrive at a reasonable solution for her to continue her graduate education.  To this end, I encourage her to contact Dr. [redacted] at (409) [redacted]. Thank you.  Regards, [redacted], Ph.D. Senior Associate Provost c:  [redacted], President [redacted] AVPF [redacted], Dean [redacted], Chair

In response to Ms. [redacted]' complaint, Lamar University stands by its position and the conditions set forth in Ms. [redacted]'s January 26, 2017 letter to Ms. [redacted].  Ms. [redacted] owes Lamar University a very large sum of money and is delinquent in her payment.  Ms. [redacted] is encouraged to contact Ms. [redacted] if Ms. [redacted] needs additional information about the "formalities" of repaying her debt.  If she needs or wants her financial aid records, Lamar's Office of Student Financial Aid will release all of her documents as permitted by law and policy.
