Review: Mr. Beckner was to plant 2 trees at my home in Colonial Heights. One of the trees was to be 8 feet tall and the ground was to be sufficiently excavated prior to planting with clay and tree roots removed and replaced by good soil. The other was to be a smaller variety with the same preparation. Mr. Beckner promised a Red Maple tree with what he described as a "at least 8 feet of height and a beautiful crown." What he planted was a small, crooked red maple tree barely 76 inches in height and completely devoid of branches on one side. I expressed concern at the time of planting but was told that branches would grow on the side missing them, although shortly after an expert at the local nursery said that would not happen. I sent a text to Mr. Beckner asking for a new tree but after a month with no new tree and no communication from Mr. Beckner I replaced it myself as the prime time for planting was going by. I was charged $540.00 for the job. I asked Mr. Beckner for a refund of 1/2 the purchase price of the tree and a refund of the labor costs. That would be $267.50. The other tree, although incorrectly planted, was damaged by deer and I asked for no refund on that, just the labor as the job was not done as we had agreed. I have a receipt for the replacement tree which was $140.00 plus the good soil purchased for planting ($30.00). I had to hand dig the large holes and remove the clay and tree roots. It had been my understanding that Mr. Beckner would use some type of equipment as sparing myself this labor was the point of hiring him in the first place. Mr. Beckner used rocky soil from behind my shed to fill the very small holes hand dug by one of his staff. There has been no response to the letter I sent to Landscapes by Beckner a week ago.Desired Settlement: I would still like the refund of $167.50 but if that is not possible then at least this information might keep someone else from having a disappointing experience with this business. I have little respect for companies that do not take pride in their work and are just out to get the job over with and collect the money. I am happy to provide pictures/receipts if requested. My regret and my mistake is that I let Mr. Beckner reassure me that day that the tree would be satisfactory with time when I knew in my heart he was wrong.
