Review: In 2009, I contracted with Lansdowne Resort for rooms for a weekend women's retreat. I was unable to hold the event and contacted Lansdowne to notify them of the need to cancel, but Lansdowne said it was entitled to payment due to the cancellation falling so close to the planned date of the event. Though their representative told me that Lansdowne was able to book another affair in place of the event I cancelled, they threatened legal action if I did not pay the full amount of the contract. I explained the extenuating circumstances leading to the cancellation and asked that they at least discount the amount they felt they were entitled to. Lansdowne refused. We worked out a payment plan and in 2012 I completed payment of full contract amount for the cancelled event--more than $30,000. I was and remain grateful for Lansdowne for giving me time to pay the bill rather than demanding a lump sum payment. When I made the final payment, I requested a full itemized bill showing that I had paid the bill in full. Lansdowne's Credit Manager promised to send the receipt for full payment, but has never done so. I have contacted the Credit Manager several times by telephone and email and asked for the receipt. At one point she told me she had to get permission from Lansdowne's owners to provide a receipt. At other times, she has said that she thought she sent the receipt and promised to send it right away. I have never received the receipt. I need the receipt to close out the records of the now-defunct business that was sponsoring the event. However, Lansdowne's Credit Manager, despite numerous promises to send one, has not done so.Desired Settlement: I would like to have an itemized receipt showing that the bill was paid in full. Alternatively, if Lansdowne will not provide the receipt for the funds I paid, I would like a refund. I would also like to know if their personnel acted in keeping with the company's policy when they collected the full contract amount for the cancelled event even though they were booking another affair in its place.
