On the second night of our stay, we discovered a bedbug (inches from my arm). We notified the on-duty attendant and are now being denied compensation.We checked in to the La Quinta in [redacted] around [redacted] on [redacted] 2015 (I was in town for the Boston Marathon and the hotel was close to the start line). After doing a quick check for cleanliness when we first got to our room, we deemed it was satisfactory for the price. The next day [redacted] 2015), we ran errands associated with getting ready for the marathon which was to be held the next day [redacted] 2015). When we got back to the hotel, I went for a quick run to loosen up, took a shower and got in bed to try to sleep before the race. Around [redacted] I was getting ready to take my contact lenses out when I noticed a bug crawling just inches from my arm. I panicked and had Wes (my partner) take a photo of the bug before we crushed it to check against photos online to determine what kind of bug it was. It was almost certainly a bedbug. I immediately called some family members who were also visiting the area to cheer me on in the marathon and they offered Wes and I a spot on their floor at the [redacted] in [redacted] So [redacted] and I packed our things, filled the car, and notified the person working of what we had encountered and explained that we wanted our money back. He said that this kind of thing "happens all the time" and when I explained that I had checked the room when we checked in, he said that it could be from one of the adjoining rooms. So when he asked if I just wanted another room, I said absolutely not. I asked him if he wanted us to show him the bug and the tissues we tried to crush it with (which were stained with blood because the bug had apparently just fed), he said that it wasn't necessary. He also said he couldn't issue the refund, but that if we left our contact information, the general manager would contact us. Given that it was now [redacted] and I planned to be out the door by [redacted] I said fine and drove as fast as I could to [redacted] to try to get some sleepbelieving that the staff of the La Quinta would treat my claim with dignity and respect.I have called the hotel three times (but have yet to get the general manager on the phone) and was told that they called an inspector who claims there was no evidence of bedbugs and that the general manager believes I didn't actually find a bedbug but just wanted a free night's stay. Aside from the fact that my sole purpose in town was to run the biggest marathon of my life and that I checked out of the hotel in my pajamas in the middle of the night right before that race and my partner stayed up all night doing all of our laundry and combing through our bags to make sure nothing came with us, the assumption that I would lie about something as serious as finding a bedbug in a hotel is, frankly, insulting.Desired SettlementWe are asking for the [redacted] that La Quinta is holding on to (for the nights of [redacted] and [redacted] Between the on-duty attendant telling me that finding bedbugs "happens all the time" and the ensuing customer "service" that includes not returning my calls in a timely fashion and calling me a liaran offer for a free night in a La Quinta is absolutely unacceptable.Business Response This guest claims that she saw a bed bug in her room. We take this issue very seriously and we take action right away. We di contact our Pest control company who sent a technician right away. The technician provided us with a report stating that "no bed bug activity was found in the room". Our pest control company is a highly trusted company nationwide and is contracted with La Quinta Inns all over the country. Their reports are very reliable and have no room for error. What the guest was saying about the staff and the general manager is absolutely untrue. The guest is requesting a full refund of her money, unfortunately we are unable to refund her money based on the fact that no bed bug infestation was found in the room. I will be happy to provide a copy of the report upon request.Consumer Response I received a call from the La Quinta Headquarters and we were able to work out what I believe is a fair deal (not what I asked for, though, so I'll still take my business elsewhere in the future). However, I have still never spoken to the general manager of the hotel in Milford (but not for lack of trying on my partI have 15 calls on my cell and office phones that have received no response, I've left messages with people working the front desk as well as on his voicemail. He did call me one time, but when I called back, was told he'd already left for the day). Additionally, I stand by every word of my original statement regarding the conduct of the employees at the hotel and their treatment of me throughout this process. That said, I'm considering this horrible experience as part of the past.Thanks![redacted] Final Consumer Response
