Larry Wallace Building Contractors, Inc Reviews (12)

I had some add on work started by Larry Wallace. WHEN (not often) the workers showed up it was usually only late morning to early afternoon, Rarely was an 8 hour day put in (if any). Besides working slow, the plans were not followed. The job should have been done in 3 - 4 months. After a year, I was very disgusted and had several contractors come out what need to be fixed and how long it would take. The list of mistakes was extensive. I ordered Mr. Wallace off my property. When he was originally hired he was a licensed contractor, when I dismissed him I found out he no longer had a license. This was a total nightmare. I contacted a lawyer and found out he had several people after him, and it would be more money down the drain to go after him. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACTOR.

My name is [redacted]. Iam writing about larry wallace building contractor he built two houses for me and he done a great job I would regremend him to every one he done a great job not only that he came back on mt last housr and installed a metal roof done s great job him and his crew great company to work with

Larry Wallace installed a new metal roof on my house in 2012. The roof has leaked for 3 years, he is very difficult to contact, he consistently missed appointments to make repairs, when he did show up the repairs were ineffective. I contracted with another contractor to make repairs and have received a judgement against Larry Wallace Building Contractors, Inc. for the cost of the repairs.

I hired this company to do roofing work. They completed the job within 3 or 4 days. I have not had any issues with the repairs or new shingle thus far. The crew that came was very polite and kept a neat work area throughout the process. I received a follow up call a week after work had been completed to assure there were no issues with the work done. I can honestly say I am satisfied with the services rendered. I have recommended this company to others and feel confident they will produce satisfactory results.

Larry Wallace Construction Services provided me a free estimate to replace siding on my home. During the estimate, Larry Wallace made several disparaging statements about Mexicans and their workmanship. After Larry sent the siding estimate to me, he made more than 20 calls to me and left several voicemails, text message and emails in less than 24 hours. I did not attempt to respond to any of the calls or messages. The following morning, Larry called me 3 more times and I finally answered the third call. I told Larry that I had chosen someone else to do the work. He asked me , "were they cheaper than me?" I said yes. He then he called me "a liar" and said "I was just jerking him around." Larry then said to me, "you better not have no un-licensed Mexicans working on that house because I'm going to check and call the county to come and shut you down."

I would never have this man perform work for me in any capacity at any price nor would I ever recommend him to work for anyone else!

My name is [redacted]. [redacted] has built 2 houses for me and installed metal roof on another house I would recommended him to any one I have had a great experience with him and I would U.S. him again on any other project that I need done

Hired this company to do work and the work was never completed and may things need to be fixed. Contractor received over $33,000.Larry Wallace presented himself as a licensed contractor which he was not his license was revoked. Paid him to do a job which was not done in a timely manner and was not completed at all. He was not supposed to do heating and air work but did so anyway which he broke our duct work and did not fix it after told about it. Never paid any of the sub contractors which we had to pay. Installed sample products and not what we contracted for or paid for. Left us with a complete mess and did not finish anything in the contract. Failed to show up to do the job when he told us he would be there. He started the job in July of 2014 and promised us it would be completed by December 24, it is now May of 2015 and nothing is completed. Last time I called him to complain was March 15 2015 he told me job would be complete in 30 days which was a lie. Picked out granite for vanity and tub and he showed up with an entirely different color and pieces which was unacceptable. He also installed a sample window in our bathroom which was in the contract as a 5x5 window, it needs to be replaced. Did not pay sub contractors and lied to them telling them we were not paying him any money. Told electrician he had to quit job because he wasn't getting paid. He pulled $2500 permits which we payed for instead of signing them over to us or the new contractor. We got a new contractor and his estimate to finish the job was an additional $20,000 to fix and finish what Larry Wallace Construction had done.Desired SettlementWe paid Larry Wallace almost completely in full and the work was never completed and the work that was done is needing to be corrected. we are seeking $20,000 in damages. Business Response Larry Wallace Response:I have numbered the complaints [redacted] accused me of and provided my response after my initials "LW".Consumer's Original Complaint:Hired this company to do work and the work was never completed and may things need to be fixed. Contractor received over $33,000. 1.Larry Wallace presented himself as a licensed contractor which he was not his license was revoked. LW: I did have a temporary lapse in licensure, between May 2014 - Nov 2014. License was secured Nov 2014 and is current.2. Paid him to do a job which was not done in a timely manner and was not completed at all. LW: Homeowners delayed progress numerous times. See list of delays below:- Selecting shower and tub valves- Selecting bathroom vanity cabinet- After cabinet was installed, [redacted] changed her mind and a new cabinet had to be rebuilt to be 4 inches longer. - Selecting bathroom whirlpool tub: delayed 1 month waiting for delivery after [redacted] selection- Selecting bathroom floor- Selecting bathroom paint color- Selecting granite for vanity counter top- Selecting exterior brick color; delayed for 1.5 months before changing mind to go with stone- [redacted] denied access to home approx. 9 to 12 times because of disagreements between [redacted] and [redacted]. (The two had problems agreesing on things). Therefore, I was denied access to thejob until the couple could reach an agreement. These incidences delayed progres as much as a weekat a time. Finally, [redacted] told me to leave the job and not return BEFORE the job was complete.3. He was not supposed to do heating and air work but did so anyway which he broke our duct work and did not fix it after told about it.LW: The duct work needed to be disconnected in order to build a doorway for new bathroom. It's common for contractors to have to do this during the course of construction and is not considered to be actual "heating & air work". The duct work was not reconnected because [redacted] told me to stop work immediately and not return. Therefore, I was not able to coordinate with Heating & Air Company to construct and/or reconnect new duct work.4. Never paid any of the sub contractors which we had to pay.LW: I paid the subcontractors listed below which are the only subcontractors I contracted with during this job:- [redacted] - [redacted] - [redacted]- [redacted]- [redacted]- [redacted]- [redacted]- [redacted]The following 2 subcontractors had not been paidbecause their work had not been completed when [redacted] told me not to return to jobsite.- [redacted]- [redacted]5. Installed sample products and not what we contracted for or paid for.LW: Not sure what [redacted] is referring to as "sample products". Need specifics in order to respond.6. Left us with a complete mess and did not finish anything in the contract.LW: [redacted] told me stop work and to not return to job. How could I finish the job? Before leaving, I cleaned up and hauled off all debris created during the time I was contracting the job. I have no knowledge what the jobsite looks like now.7. Failed to show up to do the job when he told us he would be there. He started the job in July of 2014 and promised us it would be completed by December 24, it is now May of 2015 and nothing is completed. Last time I called him to complain was March 15 2015 he told me job would be complete in 30 days which was a lie. LW: This job was not started until Sept 2014,not in July 2014 as stated by [redacted]. The [redacted] Inspections Application portrays the date of Sept 2014. It can be produced for verification if required. Also, refer to the delays listed earlier in my response. It is important to note that I was not allowed to complete the job through no fault of my own.8. Picked out granite for vanity and tub and he showed up with an entirely different color and pieces which was unacceptable.LW: [redacted] provided a sample color and verified the color provided by [redacted] Company. [redacted] and [redacted] were told the color may vary before purchase was made.9. He also installed a sample window in our bathroom which was in the contract as a 5x5 window, it needs to be replaced.LW: I installed the window size [redacted] agreed to, not a sample window. The window was purchased from [redacted] Company.10. Did not pay sub contractors and lied to them telling them we were not paying him any money.Told electrician he had to quit job because he wasn't getting paid.LW: See the list of subcontractors I paid above.I did not lie to anyone. I did not tell the electrician I wasn't getting paid. I told the electrician that I was not allowed to complete the job and not allowed to return to jobsite.11. He pulled $2500 permits which we payed for instead of signing them over to us or the new contractor. LW: Permit costs in [redacted] for [redacted] job was $56.00. The [redacted] InspectionsDepartment Residential Permit will provide proofof the cost and can be produced for verificationif needed. The Insulation permit cost was $40.00.The [redacted] Inspections Department for Insulation Permit will provide proof of the costand can be produced for verification if needed.$2500 in permits is a gross overstatement by [redacted].12. We got a new contractor and his estimate to finish the job was an additional $20,000 to fix and finish what Larry Wallace Construction had done. LW: I was not allowed to "finish" ("fix" is not an accurate word to use) the job. Below is a list of items remaining that would complete the agreed upon contract. I was not allowed to finish these items.- Trim out on plumbing- Placing stone on the exterior of addition- Installing new gutters- Place shingles on small section of roofThese items should not cost $20,000. This includes paying the two subcontractors mentioned above $3.550.00Consumer's Desired Resolution:13. We paid Larry Wallace almost completely in full and the work was never completed and the work that was done is needing to be corrected. we are seeking $20,000 in damages. LW: The work was not completed in full because the [redacted] did not allow me to complete the work. And, it should be noted that referring to "fixing" things is really "completing" things. It may appear to the [redacted]es that things need"fixing" but it is really the result of their owndoing, by not allowing me to complete the job.The only reason they gave me was that they had paid me too much money. In reality, [redacted] and [redacted] knew what the job was going to cost. They signed a contract with the costs included. At the time of dismissal, these complaints were not communicated to me. It was just about the amount of money they had paid me. It is a normal practice for contractors to require incremental payments as work is being completed. This is so the contractor can pay subcontractors sooner andalso to safeguard against homeowners not paying up at the end.LW: My suggestion for a resolution is to allow me to complete the contracted job, provided no work has been done by another contractor. If work has been done by another contractor, an amendment to my contract with the [redacted] will be required, noting the work performed by the other contractor will not be guaranteed by me. Other changes to the contract may be needed as well. Or, I will agree to terminate the contract with the stipulation that I am no longer held accountable for any and all work performed. I cannot guarantee the job now that another contractor has potentially done work. Consumer Response He in fact was not a licensed contractor at the time he started work for us like he presented himself which constitues fraud so looking into criminal charges. I called the licensing board in Raleigh and his license was revoked due to violations on 11 different properties. The permits did cost $2500 because that's what Mr. Wallace had us pay for them. The new estimate for $20,000 does not include the $3920 we had to pay the plumber and electrician. We have a notarized statement from two different sub contractors stating Larry Wallace told them he had not received any money from us. [redacted] notified Mr. Wallace of the problem with the duct work in December 2014when it was 60 degrees in our house as of May 7 2015 the problem was still not fixed. I picked out cabinets Mr. Wallace brought something entirely different so yes he should fix his mistake. I picked out granite at [redacted], Mr. Wallace even contacted them himself and had them come to measure with the correct color then Mr. Wallace took it upon himself to go somewhere else and get a different color. I have both color sample and the are definitely not the same. Mr Wallace took over 10 months and as of January 9 2015 was paid $33,000 by us and also the $3920 we were obligated to pay sub contractors. After he received the last payment in Jan we barely saw him again. The delays were not our fault except for picking out the brick to match which they didn't make anymore. We had 3 other contractors to look at the job and $20,000 estimate was not only to complete the job but also repair Mr. Wallaces shotty work. I have documentation of everything and pictures to prove what a mess he has made. I would be more than happy to provide all the documentation, pictures, proof of payment and whatever else may be needed to help prove my claim. Thank you

Work was never completed. Work that was completed was faulty and unsafe. When we contacted owner he responded with foul and threatening language. Contract for home addition was signed on 11-3-14. Work was to be complete by March 2015. $24,000 was paid and work was never complete. Contractor had to be called daily from March until July and asked to come work on my property. There were weeks that passed that no one came to work at all. Then weeks when workers would come one day and work for an hour. Faulty work resulted in a flood of our home twice. Dryer vent was installed back graded towards dryer causing a fire hazard. Doors for laundry room and linen closet were uneven and [redacted] Home Improvement came to measure and since the measurement is not level their suggestion is to have both doors reframed to correct size. Second contract was signed July 22 with 18 items that were still not complete. We had to hire other companies to complete the project. The new roof has leaked causing damage to the inside of the house. The leak is from not properly attaching the addition to the existing home. Three subcontractors have contacted us about not receiving payment for work complete, drywall, electrical and plumbing. When we contacted the contractor he responded with foul and threatening language. This home improvement project was to be complete by the birth of my second son, March 2015. This company caused my house to be an unsafe environment for my newborn and toddler. Tools were left out in reach of my toddler, extension cords were left live when the flooding occurred. No responsibility has been taken by the business and we have had to pay other companies to have the work complete just to make our house a safe environment. The owner of the company has had several opportunities to fix the faulty work but takes no responsibility for the flood, the doors, uneven floors and unfinished work. When confronted about the sub contractors contacting us for money he said we need to manage our money. When asked about leaving our house in such an unsafe manner for children he responded with foul language and threats. I am happy to provide documentation for all claims made in this complaint.Desired SettlementI would like to make the public aware of the business practices used to protect other buyers from having this experience.
