The...

customer came in to the garage On 3/12/2014, for a state inspection on his vehicle. Our facility only
has two service bays, and they are two different models; a four-arm post lift, and a drive-up rack lift.
For this particular customer, his vehicle had to be serviced using the drive-up rack lift because the other
one was In use at the time. The customer happens to be a manager of a tire shop, so we thought no
harm would be done by letting him pull his own car onto the rack while my co~worker and I blocked his
back tires in order for the car to get onto the rack without anything being damaged. Because neither
one of us were driving the car, we were able to see if the vehicle would have hit the rack and would
have been able to hear a noise. If either one of us would have known that the vehicle had hit the rack,
or was even going to come close to hitting anything, we would not have let him continuing driving
forward. We both made sure the vehicle was good and clear so that the vehicle could be safely pulled
forward. So, because the vehicle was clear to proceed pulling forward with no damage, nothing was said
to the customer to quit pulling forward.
Once the customer was out of his vehicle, he said “Wow it’s always something” then he opened the
hood to look underneath and saw that anti-freeze was gushing out. When I looked at the car, I noticed
that the hose coming from the heater core had broken off of the intake manifold, which is known to be
brittle and break due to heat distortion because they are plastic. My co-worker fixed the leak
temporarily, being completely drivable so that he could drive the car back to his garage to fix the
problem. Once that was done, the vehicle was lifted via the rack to make sure that nothing on the
vehicle was hitting underneath, all of the scissor lifts were pushed up to the front of the rack, which
completely cleared the vehicle completely of being exposed to any damage.
Thank you,

Review: I took my 2002 mustang gt in for a state inspection. the shop manager/owner told me to pull on the rack. I told him my car will not clear the rack as it sits to low. I repeated this to him 4 times he said we will watch you on as I started up the rack. ''lift'' 1 mechanic was watching front other was in rear. the manager was up front telling me I was clear as I made it to top of lift my car jarred hard as it shoved my exhaust up because it had drug on there jack to lift the car and shoved my back side of my engine up which broke heater core hose where it attaches to manifold and antifreeze started spewing out everywhere and now my heaer core is leaking on floor also. as I got out of car I said I tried to tell you it wouldnt clear I am a manager at a tire shop we have same style lift. he procedded to raise car and had to shove jacks out from under car because it raised it up 2 inchs. I said to manager you guys should fix this he said nope not my problem and started to laugh. the other mechanic there agreed with me that the shop should fix it as I told him about the clearence issues prior and they was guiding me up on lift saying keep coming your good. when I ask again if they was goin to fix it and make it right he simply replied nope not responsible for anything modified.. this is not my 1st time dealing with this garage. the company I work does alignments for them and never had any issues but never thought this would be a issue.Desired Settlement: factory replacemet intake manifold cost $366 new 3hrs labor to install $60.00per/hr $180heater core $25 $25install 8hrs dash has to come out. $480engine mounts $140 total $1141
