Latin Mechanic Shop and Inspection Reviews (1)

Its been over two weeks, my engine is still not repaired. Now that I would like to go else where, she refuses to give back 500$ I've already put down.I had my car towed to Latin mechanics on June 8th 2014. After an initial quote of 1050 dollars the engine was not complete by Thursday. I was later informed another engine must be ordered because the current engine is unsafe. The following week I was told the other engine had arrived and they would need an extra 150, totallying 1200 dollars. I complied and they began work on the carso I thought. This week they're telling me that it is something wrong with the engine and it must be taken back. Now they need another two dollars to get a different engine. Having to make a way to the shop I then discovered the same engine in my car, making the same noise as when I initially took it there. I expressed to her I needed my car within due haste and she replied: "it may take two weeks or a month unless I pay more". I told her I didn't have the extra money for another price increase and I would like to find another mechanics, get my car towed, and reciece my money back. I was then told that I am not able to get my full amount back because someone has done labor, as well as replace the engine. I know that is my original engine, and oil doesn't cost hundreds of dollars. I've never done business this way and hope you can help. Their number is XXX-XXX-XXXX, XXX-XXX-XXXX, or cell phone number [redacted]Thank you for your help [redacted]Desired SettlementI would like my entire 500 dollars that I have put down because I feel no work has been done to my car. I would like nothing more but to have my car working and readily available, bit obviously they're not capable of handling the job. I would like my money back so I can go else where to find a sufficient mechanic to fix my car. I don't understand being charged for a service I haven't received. It sounds unfair, and unethical in my opinion, and I hope you feel the same way.Business Response [redacted] has a 1996 Mitsubishi eclipse. He came in to ask the cost of replacing the engine to his vehicle. We told him that the labor would be about $600 and that we would have to contact junk yards to search for the engine and then we would tell him the price and he left his car here. After we searched around, the cheapest good quality engine we found for that car was around $800 but when we told him that he said that he was not going to pay that much for the engine. He then told us that the most he would pay for an engine would be $550. We warned him that if we did find one at that price that it would not be in good condition and could have issues, but he said he didn't care so we then had to find an engine in that price. When we finally did find one we let him know and began working on the car. Once the engine was put in the car the mechanic realized that it wasn't working as it should have been so we called the owner and let him know but he said he was not going to spend the extra $300 that the better quality engine cost. The mechanic then said that he might be able to repair the $550 dollar engine but that he would need some extra parts, raising the total cost from $1150 to $1200 (a $50 difference) and let the owner know. The mechanic then began working on repairing the $550 dollar engine but after a week of repairs it was obvious that the cost of repairing it would be the same as of getting the $800 dollar engine. That is when we called the owner and let him know of the situation and asked him to come in and look at the car, over the phone he started insulting and arguing and yelling at us and saying that we were scamming him. He came in the next day with a friend and said that he was just going to take his car and that he wanted all his money back. We explained to them that if he no longer wanted us to work on the car that he needed to wait until Thursday so that the junk yard could take back their engine and bring back the original one and that we would only be able to give him back $400 of the $500 he gave us because he had given us the ok order to spend an extra $50 on repairing the engine and because of all fluids and filters and gaskets that go into adapting a used engine to a car. He then said that he would not wait any time and that he wanted his full $500 dollars. We tried to talk to him and even showed him the work we had done on the car but he just insulted us and said that we were from the hood and that we didn't know about this work. His friend understood where we were coming from and even tried reasoning with him but the owner was set on having things his way. He left in a fit of insults saying that the only reason he came here was because we had given him a cheaper price than anyone else in the area and that we were all just lower level people from the hood and that we had no clue about doing business. We tried to contact him after that day to see what he had decided to do but he never answered our calls. It wasn't until after a week that we were able contact and decided to give him all his money and car back regardless of the loss it was to us. The way he treated us and all the stress he and his car has caused us were all so uncomfortable that we He has a 1996 Mitsubishi eclipse. The stress caused by this man and the insults we received were not worth it.Consumer Response After receiving notice from the Revdex.com pertaining to latin mechanics and reviewing several false claims made through response by-way of Revdex.com, I made an effort to contact the shop. [redacted](the owner) refused to pay the remaining balance of 200 dollars that is owed. When I went in they said I could take my car but they didn't have the money. The following week they gave me 300 dollars and a receipt to come back in for the remainder. This was not possible; [redacted] was on vacation for a week and I needed to wait the following week. Upon arrival from vacation she ([redacted])refused to give the rest of my money, stating I had the wrong number and hung up on me. I have called several times including the shop as well as cell and she continues to hang up on me; this last payment was suppose to be made the following day as stated on my receipt the shop signed. The shop is unwilling to comply or cooperate at this juncture and a civil suit of the remaining 200, as well as court cost, and punitive damages will be sought if proper response is not recognized within due haste.
