Lauderdale County Of, Water System Reviews (1)

I had a water leak at the meter by the road that went unnoticed for days. My landlord saw the leak and called Lauderdale County Water System and they came out and fixed it immediately. However when I get my next bill it is $107 when on average they are $30-$40. I called and complained and they stated that there is nothing that they can do.Desired SettlementSeeing as my average bill is $30-$40 the next bill should be waived.Business' Initial Response In this case, the customer called us and let us know that he had a leak at his meter connection. We sent a service man out to repair this. His bill was higher than normal, but on further conversation the customer told us that he had also had a water leak inside his home. To be exact, he stated that he had a leaking faucet in his bathtub. He said that the leak had been fixed, but this usage would have also explained the higher water usage that month. Our office explained to him that the faucet leak does not meet our adjustment policy standards. That policy is as follows: the adjustment policy only applies to line breaks, not leaking faucets or running toilets. When an adjustment is applied we calculate the average usage over the last 12 months and then add back half of the usage from the leak. A customer is only eligible for one adjustment within a 12 month period. IF this had qualified for an adjustment(which it did not) the adjustment would have only reduced the charge by $14.49, making the bill $93.07. This is due to the high average usage the customer has as well as his still being responsible for half of the usage of the leak. We tried to explain this to the customer and he not only did not accept this explanation, he elected to hang up on the customer service representative in mid-conversation. We have heard nothing further from the customer.Consumer's Final Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)The leaking faucet as I explained would have fallen under the previous bill before this one. If you look back I have had a lot higher than average bill for 3 months. Did I complain about those no. Because I knew I had a leaking faucet and I expected a higher than average bill. Plain and simple you do not want to take the blame for the problem being a faulty part at your meter.Business' Final Response [redacted], I am having trouble responding to this complaint on line I hope this e-mail to you will work for my response. I am the superintendent of the Lauderdale County Water System. I would like to invite the consumer in this case to come to our next board meeting August 13th at 6:00pm at the Lauderdale County Water System office , [redacted]. I have to abide by our existing policy's and in this case it concerns our bill adjustment policy. The consumer is welcome to talk with the board members at this meeting. They will be more than willing to here the complaint and to get this matter resolved. ThanksSuperintendent[redacted]
