this response on behalf of The Laurels of University Park in regards to Mr.
R[redacted] and his service complaints. The complaint states that he was
only seen once by a doctor at the facility. Our records reflect that the

physician saw the resident on 9/7 /15 and 9/21/15 in addition, our
Nurse Practitioner saw the resident on 9/11/15, 9/16/15, 9/23/15 and again on
9/24/15. Outside appointments were coordinated and he saw his community
physician on 9/17/15, his cardiologist on 9/24/15 and the orthopedic surgeon on
9/14/15. He voiced a concern that his medication was not given at times and
also that he was overmedicated. He received medications as ordered by the
physician. He also reported that sometimes at night he was not given any
medication. The only medications that were ordered for during the hours of
sleep were his pain medications and this was on an as needed basis. The medical
record reflects that he was medicated for pain on the day and evening shifts
with administration being as late as 10:20pm. Our documentation reflects that
he slept throughout the night and did not request pain medication during time
of sleep. Mr. [redacted] spoke of having to stay longer in the facility. The
insurance company cut his benefits with a last covered day of 9/24/15. His son
appealed this decision and requested a continued stay through the appeals
process, he was approved by the insurance company through 9/28/15 with further
clinical updates due on that date. The facility is not aware of any incidences
where a physician made numerous attempts to discharge the resident. The $624.00
amount due to the facility is a result of co-insurance payment owed by the
resident. Once the insurance claim was processed, he was notified of this
balance in December 2015, therefore this is an outstanding balance. The
facility strives to meet the needs and expectations of all of our guests. The
facility has a process for our guests to meet with staff members so that we can
identify needs and address concerns. The facility was not aware of any of Mr.
[redacted]'s concerns until after his discharge. Should you have any questions,
please feel free to contact me.

Review: After my hip surgery I was admitted to the Laurels. I was only seen once when I first arrived my a doctor, nurses only came to my room to give me my medications and sometimes at night I was not given any medication. They over medicated me and my blood pressure was severely low, I went to see my doctors and they gave the Laurels written instructions on what I should no longer be taking but that was not followed. My son had got so worried that he and my doctor tried to call several times to get me discharged but no one would answer the doctors calls or even call them back even after they called 4 times, which happened to be a Friday so I had to stay the weekend until my son finally had enough and medically discharged me against their doctors advice, which is funny since in the month I was there I only seen him once at the beginning. Now the Laurels has sent me a bill of $624.00 for the weekend I had to stay. It seems that they refused to take my doctors calls or answer him back because they were trying to get as much money out of me as possible. I don't feel that I should pay this bill since I was mistreated and neglected while I was there and my insure paid them for that time but the extra weekend that I was forced to stay and is now billed is ridiculous and unfair.Desired Settlement: They should erase this bill
