My name is Linda Stewart. My husband and I are disabled seniors, and we hired Law fence to replace an old fence.
My husband said that we should hire him because his website said that he is a fully insured and licensed Colorado Springs fence contractor and if they are licensed, you can be sure that they will do a good job. Regional Building says that they have no record of him or his company having a license.
They did not do a good job, and when Mr. Law came out to look, he would start yelling and using profanities when my husband would point out something that was wrong. Mr Law made silly excuses like the fence is crooked because it opens up the driveway so you can drive in.
It was bad enough that he said he was going to replace the whole fence for free. I have attached pictures of the texts he sent saying he would replace it.
When he came out the next day, he said that the fence he built breaks Colorado Springs safety regulations, but if he replaced it he would have to call the city on us and we would get in trouble. He texted us a picture from the city’s website that has a diagram of the requirement that shows his fence is in violation. His website says that he is an expert in fence regulations and they handle all the details so the fence is compliant.
He told my husband that his law guy told him that as long as he tells us about the safety violation, it would be our fault if somebody got hurt walking on the sidewalk.
When he finally left for the last time he said that if my husband wanted the code violation fixed, he could do it himself. Then he said something about firearms and that scared me. He sent my husband an email saying not to contact him.
All this really happened and I don’t know what to do. When my husband thought he was acting strange he started taking video of their conversations. He has copies of emails, texts, recordings, screenshots, and some photos that support everything I said, and has even downloaded his whole website.

I contracted with Law Fence to replace an old fence. I am a Senior Citizen with disabilities. Some think that this class of people are easy targets.
Mr Law’s website states under the heading “The Law Fence Difference”: “Fully licensed and insured Colorado Springs fence contractors.”
This led me to believe that he is a locally licensed fence contractor, and it had a significant influence on my decision to hire his company. Pikes Peak Regional informed me that they have no record of him or Law Fence having any kind of contractor’s license.
In my professional opinion from 25 years in residential construction, the work that he completed was unsightly and substandard. He reluctantly fixed two serious structural issues, but only after being belligerent, and argumentative.
I paid him the full amount letting him know that I was unhappy with the work. I left an unfavorable review. He then texted that he would replace the entire fence at no charge, so I removed the review. The next day he sent me a diagram from a Co Springs web page that showed that the fence he built did not meet safety regulations. He said that if he replaced the fence, as he promised, he would have to have city approval and I would get in trouble.
“Once we do it [replace fence] They come crawling up your a** and if your fence isn’t on the line, that’s it. So we just leave it.”
Mr. Law built a fence that violates city safety regulations. I believe that he already knew, or should have known from the start because his website says:
“Law fence is your go to local expert for fencing that meets Colorado Springs regulations “At Law Fence, we take care of the local regulations for you…we handle the compliance process so you don’t have to.”
Under “This guide explains how to ensure your fence project complies with Colorado Springs regulations” he lists “5 Key takeaways.” One of them addresses the rules that cover this exact situation.
I believe I was polite to him, and went above and beyond to try to work with him and give him every consideration, and even assistance in resolving the problems.
He ultimately refused to fix anything beyond the two structural issues. He told me that he would sue me if I left a bad review, that “My response would be a legal one. A legal one would get really ugly and would include all the violations and st” He said that if I wanted to bring it into compliance I could do it myself.
He accused me of being nit-picky and when I said that he wouldn’t like that in his yard he said “No, no, no. None of this would be acceptable at all.”
When I last spoke with him he said that he didn’t feel safe and was leaving the property. I asked him why he didn’t feel safe and he said that it was because of firearms. There were no firearms, and nothing of the sort was ever mentioned or implied. Him bringing up firearms out of the blue scared my wife.
He refunded [by mail] an inadequate portion of the money I had paid him and stated that neither he nor his workers felt safe on my property and to not contact him. [His repair crew, BTW, was great and we got along wonderfully.]
At 11:45 AM, 6/28/2025 I heard the dog bark, and looked out the window to see a midsize white car speed through my pull-through driveway. I recognized [with 90% confidence] the driver as Mr Law. This scared my wife again, and she tells me that she is afraid that he might become violent. She has been jumping at shadows ever since.
I have kept photographs, screenshots, texts, email correspondence, and audio/video records supporting the statements above. I believe I have exhausted my attempts at constructive resolution. I am sharing this to help others make an informed decision.
