I was given the name of Lawrence septic by a friend so I first faxed him for a quote, which I was given which was less than other companies I had called,so I called to set up an appointment where I was quoted even better, they told me to have a garden hose there but didn't tell me why so I went out and got one, when they came I was at work and my son was at home and watched them as they "washed off a blue thing" which was a filter I found out, they left the bill and charged me an extra for rinsing off the filter with my hose, this cost wasn't told to me and when I called about it I was told they didn't know I had a filter in the septic or they would have charged more in the quote, now they know septics and know there is a filter since I was quoted a price and I should have been told or asked priior to him rinsing it off that it would cost extra, paying 275.0-to clean the septic should include what ever needs to be done to clean it,without slipping in an extra fee feel their ethics are questionable.quoting one price and billing anotherbe cautious and get it in writing

We hope the following assists your understanding of the particular situation and assures you that we have undertaken all reasonable efforts to-date to try to satisfy the customer's needs. 1. "Owner [redacted] doesn't follow blueprints to spec. on my field he never graded the top of the leachfield to code were as all the water from rain and snow collect on top of septic tank...bprints callfor 2 cleanouts on tank there's only 1." The owner's current septiac system was installed under contract to former property owner some 71/2 years ago and in accordance with a permit from the [redacted] Borard of Health issued August 5. 2005. The permit was issued with the approval of a septic system repair plan prepared By [redacted] R>S> No septic reair was performed by us under contract to the current owner of [redacted]. The approved septic system reair drawings show that a single cover was to be extenedto final grade over the outlet cover to allow access to the efluent filter and that concrete risers and covers were only to be installed over the center clean-out and inlet cover if final grades were greater than 6 inches over the top of the tank. The oult cover was brought to grade at time of constuction and 6 inches or less of soil cover was placed over the septic tank so that installation of risers was not necessary. Upon completion of the septic system installation, finish grading wasperformed so that ponding of water upon septic tank would no occur. Our firm completed the septic system installation according to the approved engineer's plan and the Title 5 regulatins, asevidenced by the Templeton Board of Health's issuance of a Cerificate of Compliance on August 18, 2005, which was also signed by the designer, Mr. Ares. 2. "Theres a artisian well from 1800s 22 ft from field bprints require no wells within 100 ft. of field he said he didn't see it. How about the archives on the property it would show that well." The approved engineer's plan, that our firm installed the subject septic system in accourdance with, states that there are no wells within 100 ft. of the leaching area and shows a connection to the public water supply system. Records on file at the Templeton Board of Health includ a Certicate of Compliance issued by the Board on September 4, 1992 for installaion of a septic system on the property based on a permit issued June 26, 1992, which required connection of the dwelling to town water and backfilling of a dug well shown on an accompanying plan in the vicinity of the current and former leachfield. The BOH, which is the local authority for private water supply wells, does not havy any other records of wells on the property. 3. "He promised to come back and monitor the service but 2 months later still no show." The current property owner did not contact my firm for any reason until early November 2012,whereupon we responded, as requested, by pumping ou the septic tank, cleaning the septic tank'seffluent filter and exposed the distrubution box to monitor system performance. A follow-up visit conducted by us within several days determined that the septic tank had received a higher that typical volume of flow and that the owner had backfilled the distribution box preventing continued observation of operating conditions. A subsequent call from the owner in mid-January 2013 was responded to with a proposal to perform additional pumping and leach field maintenance services but the owner indicated that he wanted nothing else done by our firm unless it was going to be a full system replacement. We have responed to every teleplne call that was made by the propery owner and have make every attempt to offer septic system maintenance/ monitoring services. We pride ourselves as being a responsive local business, but the property owner has never stopped by our office to discuss how we may best serve him. This opportunity is taken to point out that the engineer's plan that we constructed the subject septic system according to dictates that the septic tand is to be pumped every two years and that the records be kept of pumping. Such records are required to be submitted to the BOH. A review of the Templeton Board of Health records as of May 1. 2013 reveals that the septic tank was reported to be pumped only one other time (December 27, 2011) by another service provider. besides the pumping our firm was requestid to perform in November 2012, since the system installation completion in August 2005. The septic system would appear to have been utilized by the owner for over six years without the necessary maintenance. The septic tank also was installed with a Polylok PL-122 effluent filter as directed by the engineer's plan, which the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection authorized its use in December 1998 with the provision that the filter be cleaned by a septage hauler on an annual basis with the records of its cleaning be reported to he BOH. The [redacted] Board of Health files do not contain any records of such annual effluent filter cleaning at this property. In summary, we believe our business conducts its septic system installation and maintenance services in the most professional, responsible manner, including related to the subject customer. Our firm has performed all requested services on the subject property accoring to the issued permits and regulatoryrequirements, as attested by the publec records of the Town of Templeton Board of Health. Since the septic system was determined to be properly constructed, any reported operational problems would appear to be the result of its use or lack of scheduled maintenance. We welcome the oppotunity todiscuss with you an approach to assist the owner to implement any reasonable septic system maintenance measures. However, system replacement at no cost to the current owner is not a reasonable expectaton, given the outlined circumtances. Please contact me should you have any questions on the matter, Sincerely [redacted]
