Review: Friday 1/24/2014: Dropped off my 2006 [redacted] for a diagnostic check for a check engine light showing a generic transmission problem code. Serviceman [redacted] informed me that the diagnostic check would cost $149. I received a call later in the day saying their diagnostic check was inconclusive and they needed to disassemble the transmission to investigate further, which woul cost and additional $595 and take up to one week's time. They would not know the extent of repairs required until they could disassemble the tranmsission. I informed them I needed to vehicle over the weekend and woud contact them to schedule any additional work. The engine light remained on after they were done with their work. I took the vehicle to another shop for a 2nd opinion. They found that the transmission filter was laying in the bottom of the pan and the magnet was in the wrong location. After draining and cleaning the tranmssion and replacing the seals, the check engine light is off and the car is functioning properly for far less than the $595 the Lee Myles shop wanted to disassemble my transmission. It does not seem like this transmission shop has any idea what they are doing.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund in the amount of the diagnostic charge for $149.95

Subject: ID [redacted]

In response to complaint ID [redacted], we explained to the customer at time of service what our diagnostics represented and completed such service as represented. Our diagnostics includes checking everything externally on the transmission circuit and related components. This includes the Interface between the engine ECM (engine control module) and the transmission controls, and/or computer modules, wiring harness to transmission controls and/or solenoids, fluid level and condition. Also, includes checking wiring harness for resistive circuitry and electrical continuity. We also check external linkage components (ie. Linkage rods, cables) and items associated with transmission controls to ensure components are in place and functioning properly.

If we would have been given the approval to go further, the service would have included internal inspections such as removal of the pan, inspection of the valve body, and removing the transmission, if necessary. These items would have been part of the additional service after initial external diagnostics. If the transmission filter was "in the bottom of the pan" we would have immediately discovered this as part of our disassembly efforts under the additional service. This in turn would have resulted in a very minor charge to rectify as we would not have had to remove the transmission and tear it down for further inspection efforts.

Therefore, we feel the service performed and delivered to the customer was completed in alignment with what was explained to the customer.

We are a trustworthy honest service facility which has over 1,000 customers and growing to indicate a history of customer retention and satisfaction.

Final response, the customer is not correct with his response and provides false accusations possibly due to not understanding the operation of the internal components of an automatic transmission. He later indicated that someone told him his transmission filter was disconnected and laying in the pan. If this were true, the vehicle would not move or certainly be driven. To validate this, we gladly offer for Free to remove his filter at our shop and challenge him to drive the vehicle with the filter disconnected. We have performed and delivered our external diagnostics and testing as clearly discussed up front with the customer. There was no disassembly or removal of a transmission filter as falsely stated by the customer. This is our final response to this matter.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

They quoted me $595 and said they would need the vehicle 3-5 days to perform the "internal" diagnostics as they describe in their response. Their response still does not explain how they could not find any problem after having the vehicle from 8am to 5 pm and charge $149 for basically no diagnosis. The followup would have cost me an additional verbally quoted $595 to investigate the transmission internally and they needed it for at least 3, most likely 5 days. When I inquired about what the cost might be for a complete transmission rebuild as a worst case scenario, the response was very vague and they told me it depended on what type of parts they used.

I had it fixed in less than 1/2 day for under $400 and it continues to operate fine to this day.

I was also told the vehicle would be ready by 4pm the day they had it and it was not ready until 5 pm. Therefore my suspicion is that they already had some of the transmission disassembled hoping I would fall for their sales tactic. When I asked to take the vehicle with me, thay had to scramble to put the parts back together at which time they did so incorrectly.

I believe they are an extremely dishonest repair shop and prey on unknowing customers who trust them. My regular garage had previously endorsed their work but I will let them know about this incident which will cost Lee Myles alot more than the $149 they received from me in lost business. I will also tell everyone I know to never use this shop for any service they offer.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

How do you determine what cold be wrong with a transmission by performing an "external evlauation". Is that a visual inspection of the casing and wiring and reading a code for $150?

This is my final response as well. Good luck with the franchise in the future.

Review: In the beginning of Feb my transmission went on my Acura while I was driving to work. The tow truck towed it to Lee Myles, [redacted]. Lee Myles called me and said that it would be $600 just to investigate what the problem was. The front desk staff, [redacted] made sure to reiterate over and over again that if I didn’t go with a “warranty” transmission that I might have to bring the car right back in for service and nothing would be covered. However, I did not expect that my car would sound WORSE when I picked it up. From the start it has gotten so hot it smells like it is going to catch on fire, to which [redacted] (manager) told me it was grease on the exhaust that was burning off. It has been making noises that have taken me back to the shop twice where the staff there say they don’t hear the dripping/draining noise I hear. They say it is because the car sat on the lot for about a week awaiting the transmission and it was coolant moving through the system. It’s been 2 weeks now and I still hear the draining/flushing sound. Also, it now has started making an unbelievable revving sound like the motor is idling really high when I’m not moving. It’s loud inside and outside. I know my car inside and out, I’ve had it for 6 years and I drive every day. I know the sounds it makes and it’s an Acura, they run smooth. It has always run smooth. I paid Lee Myles close to $3,000 for this, $2,809.00 to be exact. The transmissions that I researched on line for this year and model were quite expensive, but the ones I could’ve ordered just as a regular non-mechanic person were around $1,800 and they all came with a warranty.

It has been over a month now since I picked up my car and it continues to smell hot, I still hear the draining noise, it has bucked on my a few times and the transmission idles high when not moving. They told me the transmission they replaced mine with had 92,000 miles on it. Acura warrantied the transmissions to 100,000 miles because of known issues with the 2003 models.

I have repeatedly taken the car back to the location to where no one seems to hear the things I am hearing. The one mechanic said he heard something but then dismissed it when he went back to the front desk. I do not wish to return to this location for repairs. I would like my mechanic to review the work and I would like a refund for this transmission.Desired Settlement: I would like $2,000 refunded, the cost of the transmission so I can take this to my mechanic to have it properly fixed.

Review: I called Lee Myles Transmission in [redacted] on Saturday 9/21/2013 I was told by [redacted] that there was NO charge to have my 1992 Ford Probe looked out because it was leaking Transmission Fluid. I received a phone call on Monday 9/23/2013 late in the day that it would be $595.00 to pull the Transmission I said let me call ya back. I called back Tuesday Morning at 8;00 am and said no I am not going to have you pull the transmission and I will pick up the car today. At that time I was told there was a diagnostic testing charge for $49.95. I was never told about that charge prior to dropping my car off. They did NOT have to do any diagnostic testing no check engine lights were on in the car. All he told me on the Phone Monday was that the Transmission was covered in fluid and leaking I told him that Saturday when I called. My 1992 Ford Prob does not have trouble codes to begin with and they could not drive the Car as I had [redacted] tow it there and a Tow truck pick it up. So why does my receipt say it was driven to clear the codes. This place Lied and when you go to pick your vehicle up you are hit with BOGUS charges . This place lies and once they get your car if you do not have them do the over priced work then they charge you for Bogus charges they should be fined for such actions.Desired Settlement: I want to be refunded my $49.95 charge plus tax for a total of $52.95

Response:

To begin, there is no employee named "[redacted]' at our establishment. Any charges applied were for service efforts that were well beyond the Free effort classification applied to diagnostics. We also reviewed fluid condition and added 6-25 quarts of transmission fluid to the vehicle which normally would result in an additional charge for which was not billed. This letter was received on 09/30/13. We already reimbursed the customer in Full via check on 09/25/13 as we proudly maintain customer satisfaction in all cases.

We are a trustworthy honest service facility which has over 1,000 customers and growing to indicate a history of customer retention and satisfaction.
