Around July, 2013, I hired [redacted], an ROC-licensed contractor, to renovate a commercial building I had just purchased. [redacted] agreed to accept 4 equal payments totaling a certain amount, but said he refuses to offer the customer copies of his building materials or subcontractor invoices. In October, he abandoned the work two days after locking me out of the building without notice, and sent me an email saying he had gotten the city inspector to pass the project and he wanted his fourth payment. I had a locksmith let me in (and change locks) and found that [redacted] had failed to do extensive amounts of work he had contracted in writing to do (work that was not required to pass inspection, but which he knew full well I wanted done). I had to spend over $2000 on an electrical contractor and hundreds of dollars on cleanup for debris his subcontractors had left inside and around the building, as well as the locksmith's bill. [redacted] had agreed in writing at the outset of the project to distribute no keys. Well, when he locked me out and I demanded a reason, he replied in an email that there were so many keys in the hands of so many of his contractors that he felt he had to change the locks. He NEVER explained why he did so without notice to me and he NEVER explained why he violated that part (and other parts) of our agreement. I have complained to the ROC which is investigating him. One of his long-time subcontractors who stopped by the building told me that at the end of projects, [redacted] often leaves the customer in a state of dissatisfaction. I would never call on him again and for that matter, I will never let him enter the building again.
