Leslie M Hardy, Counseling & Consulting Reviews (1)

When I went to [redacted] for counseling for my teenaged daughter, I would have never thought that she would not be fair when it came to billing me for her services. I had [redacted] insurance and she neglected to file the claims each time that I went. I had to pay her full office visit price of $125 when my co-pay was only $50. When I followed up with [redacted] I learned that I was only required to pay $50, and upon telling [redacted] this, she then agreed to that payment. However, she never filed the claims until I got [redacted] involved...months later. She refused to reimburse me for the back balance that she charged me, she refused to co-operate with [redacted] and she refuses to rectify this situation. It's been going on for over a year now, and [redacted] has probably done this to more people than just me. She owes me $450 dollars of money that I overpaid her. I am appalled at her business etiquette and would like to remind everyone to be careful when dealing with her.Product_Or_Service: Mental Health CounselingDesired SettlementI would like my refund of $450 that [redacted] back charged me for. I overpaid her for services, and she knows that she back charged me but refuses to cooperate and reimburse me. Business Response This letter is in response to the complaint filed by [redacted]. [redacted] has grossly misrepresented and omitted key facts of what has transpired and ultimately has distorted the truth of this matter. I am an ethical individual and professional who have been in practice serving the public and private sectors for almost 20 years. This is the only complaint I have ever had. For [redacted] to suggest, let alone state "she has probably done this to more people than just me" is baseless and defamatory and I am following up regarding it accordingly. Regarding her complaint, [redacted] contacted my office on March 11 2013, to inquire and request services for her daughter. I sent her an initial email on March 15, 2013 requesting the completion of the necessary information for engagement in services, which included an Intake packet, Consent forms, Service Fees, and Client rights documents as well as her insurance information to verify her insurance benefits. The email clearly stated she needed to email her insurance information within 24 hours for verification, which she did not. [redacted] had 3 days to return her insurance information for verification prior to her daughter's initial session and chose not to do so. Instead, she and her daughter came for the initial appointment on March 19, 2013, which is when she provided her insurance information; hence it was not verified prior to her being seen, per my office policy. [redacted] was aware and had agreed to the policy and to pay for services in full prior to the verification of her benefits as discussed with her and per the emailed instructions she received March 15th. Accordingly, she had submitted full payment online on March 18th for the anticipated March 19th initial appointment. As I do with all my clients who choose to use their insurance benefits, I called [redacted] directly to verify the client's benefits, in this case it was after the initial appointment and before the second appointment. I was informed by the [redacted] rep that [redacted] was responsible for the bill until she had met her $1500 deductible. Given [redacted] has many plans with varying benefits and the fact that I had seen many clients with [redacted] coverage, I thought it was odd [redacted] would have a deductible to meet for mental health services and asked the rep if she was sure, to which she replied in the affirmative. Although possible I did wonder why [redacted] mental health benefits would be different than other [redacted] clients, who typically only had to pay co-payments. I shared that information with [redacted] and encouraged her to follow up to verify / clarify her benefits if she thought what I had been told was incorrect. Furthermore, my website as well as my consent forms (which she'd signed) clearly indicate it is the client's responsibility to know what their insurance benefits are; the actual forms state the client is responsible for payment of services whether their insurance pays or not. [redacted] was informed verbally and in writing of what I was told by the [redacted] rep after I had called to verify her insurance. I encouraged [redacted] again during the second appointment to follow up with [redacted] regarding her benefits. [redacted] neglected to do so for another 3-4 weeks and had stated during subsequent appointments she was going to get (around) to it...she was "busy planning (her) wedding". That apparently took precedence over her handling this matter, which could have circumvented the situation we're dealing with now. Consequently, I continued to charge her for the next 4 sessions, believing, as I was told by [redacted] that [redacted] was responsible for the bill until she had met her $1500 deductible. I had no reason to file the claims given I was told she had to meet a deductible for which her office visits (which my services were considered to be) would not be applied toward her deductible. [redacted] seems to be implying that because she told me her benefits were a particular thing (and contrary to what I was told by [redacted] that I should have assumed what she stated was true and accurate. I informed [redacted] that unless and until someone from [redacted] told me otherwise, I would have to act on the information I had previously been provided and I advised her to have [redacted] call me directly. [redacted] failed to inform you that once I received the call from Ms. [redacted] of [redacted] on April 22, 2013 to correct the benefits information previously provided, I immediately informed her that same day of the updated information and advised her she would only need to pay the $50 co-payment for future appointments, which she did. [redacted] goes on to state I did not file her claims. I process all claims within the guidelines of the insurance company. Still, it was my understanding that [redacted] was responsible for payment of services (and she was given receipts she could have submitted to her insurance company) so there was no expectation on my part and therefore no urgency in my filing any claims (at that time in March-April 2013). [redacted] daughter's last scheduled appointment was in May and [redacted] had indicated they would take a few weeks off due to her pending wedding, honeymoon, etc. When she emailed me afterward I clearly stated in my June-July 2013 correspondence to her that I had filed the related claims and agreed to reconcile her account and determine her credit (versus a refund) as she had not terminated services at that time. There was apparent misinformation communicated to her by [redacted] indicating that I had not filed the claims when I actually had (had record to show proof). I furnished [redacted] with the processed claims reference number to give to [redacted] In addition, once the initial claims were processed I did forward [redacted] (she acknowledged receipt) a money order in the amount of $$$, which represented all of the monies I had received from [redacted] at that time.Contrary to [redacted] implications I have always responded timely to her communications as well as that of [redacted] in working to resolve this matter. At no point have I ever "refused to cooperate with [redacted] I received a call from * of [redacted] regarding [redacted] complaint the week of September 13, 2013. After discussing the situation with her she indicated she needed to refer the case to someone else. The week of October 14, 2013 I received a call from * of BCBS to discuss the matter and she indicated she would need to "escalate" the case to management and ask someone from that team to call me. I finally spoke with ** in [redacted] network management in November 2013 to discuss and clarify a few matters and we agreed on a resolution. I agreed to reimburse [redacted] the balance of any refund due her once all claims had been paid by [redacted] asked me to submit any remaining claims for [redacted]. I submitted the only outstanding claim as requested in November 2013 and there has been a hold up since on getting the claim processed by [redacted] had indicated they would have to manually process the claim and that was the last I heard about it. ** resumed communication with me in March 2014 when she contacted me to inquire if I had submitted the claim (from November 2013). I had submitted the claim (provided proof); yet [redacted] had failed to follow up to manually process it. ** asked and I submitted the claim again on March 31, 2014. [redacted] initiated the complaint through [redacted] had referred the matter to her attorney(s) and had discontinued contact with me; therefore, I presumed she was in communication with them. I have been in on-going communication with [redacted] following their lead to get this matter resolved as quickly as possible for everyone. Apparently, it has been [redacted] who has not been in communication with [redacted] to know what is going on toward that end since she insists I have refused to cooperate with them. I will continue to work with [redacted] to finalize this matter and hopefully soon! If you would like to verify my communications and efforts with [redacted] feel free to contact ** in management. As I indicated before, I had already agreed and will refund [redacted] the balance of what is due to her (which is not $450 as she indicated) once I receive final payment from [redacted] and calculate the remaining refund amount due.I have spent many hours communicating and in correspondence with the various entities [redacted] has contacted regarding this matter and hope to have it resolved soon. Thank you.
