Let it Shine Lighting, L L C Reviews (1)

Review: Let it Shine quoted our business for new lighting. They failed to check with our energy provider to see if we qualified for a double rebate program for the replacement of our lighting. Their original quote was based off of the assumption that we qualified for this program. We agreed to let them install 20 fixtures at no cost as a trial. They agree to give us the lights for free or to re install our old lights, if we did not like them. We liked the lights and wanted to proceed with the rest of the plant. We approved the quote and issued a PO. Two weeks later their sales rep visited our site and brought a new quote. The first quote was $9497.70 and the second quote was 23944.70. They explained that we did not qualify for the double rebate. They told us on several occasions that we did qualify. I even gave them a copy of our electric bill and told them to make sure that our electric company was a part of the Energizing Indiana group. They didn't do this until after they had quoted us and the PO had been cut. The reality of it is that they did not check with our energy provider, made and assumption, and was irresponsible with their quotes. They destroyed our old lights when they put up the trial lights. Offered to install some used light fixtures they got from other facilities. This is not acceptable. They have ignored our calls and ignored our email.Desired Settlement: We would like Let it Shine to honor their quote or provide a reasonable alternative that allows us to pay them the difference of the quote as we recoup the cost of the lighting from the energy savings. They also told us they were working on some sort of tax credit that would put the quote back at the original quote but we have yet to hear from them on that. They said they would do this and would get us a proposal. They have not called back and they have not responded to email.

Response:

This response is in communication to your letter of December 26, 2013. My wife was admitted to the hospital in [redacted], Indiana on Christmas Day and will remain in for several more weeks. We live in [redacted] and I haven’t been home much. I picked up your letter last week concerning a complaint from [redacted] at [redacted]. Although this is very much later than you requested, I would still like to respond.

[redacted] offered a double rebate for a four month period on energy efficient industrial lighting. This amounted to $170 per fixture and it has never happened before. All utilities in our state were encouraged to participate except the REMC rural utilities. Our salesman, [redacted], quoted several factories in an industrial park that were all with Duke Energy, one of the participating utilities. When he quoted [redacted] , he believed it to be Duke also. They agreed to have us change 20 of their fixtures and if the lighting quality and the rebate process were satisfactory, they would contract with us to have us install an additional 166 more. When we did get their utility bill for rebate submission, it was from [redacted] Energy. That did not send up any red flags because all of the REMC providers we have worked with have the four initials (REMC) after their name. We had successfully submitted rebates on many small utilities. Obviously, the rebate was denied.

We contacted Mr. [redacted] at [redacted] with two options. 1) We will eat the lost rebate monies on the 20 fixtures and let them keep them or 2) We will install new metal halide fixtures (identical to their original ones) to make their lighting uniform again. Either way, we would lose significantly but would maintain our integrity. [redacted] was completely unsatisfied with our decision. He demanded we install the other 166 fixtures at a greater loss. We maintained our position that we had not contracted to do the other fixtures and that since they had modified our proposal to wait on the others until the first ones went through the process; they had absolved us from any future liability. Mr. [redacted] claims that we have ignored his further communications when in fact we have responded. Mr. [redacted] even made another appointment to try to resolve this amicably. That meeting did not go well as Mr. [redacted] again became more persistent that we provide them free lighting.

We installed nearly two million dollars in lighting last year and have 13 years in the lighting business. To my knowledge, we have never had a complaint against us and have well over 1000 happy customers. Please review this and help us maintain our good name. My cell is ([redacted] if you have any further questions. Mr. [redacted] would be happy to talk with you as well if needed to clarify this situation.
