Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:We reject the response from [redacted] of Austin Roofing Contractors. For simplicity we would like to address some points made by Mr [redacted] in his previous letter to us Mr [redacted] stated: “leaks that people chose to tolerate became a larger issue, like in this case”At no time whatsoever, did we “tolerate” our leak When the leak initially presented itself, in April 2015, we contacted Mr [redacted] immediately We are still waiting to see him Mr [redacted] explains that we chose to “opt out of doing everything we suggest” This is in reference to wood repairs and chimney/siding repairs initially required on our home prior to the roof installationAustin Roofing Contractors, did in fact replace the wood on both of our chimneys and also installed the ridge vent on the upper ridge of roofOur original contract shows where we approved these repairs What Mr [redacted] has forgotten is that in trying to be more competitive with another company we previously received a quote from, he agreed to remove the ‘cost only’ of the repairs, from our invoice, to oblige in being more price competitive, which did lower the price from $16,to $15, However, all repairs were completed as per our contract, by Austin Roofing Contractors It is not accurate, therefore, for Mr [redacted] to claim we “did not follow through with chimney/siding repairs”To verify, please see the attached pictures Mr [redacted] has surmised that our leaking issue is “simply siding and trim issues”.Mr [redacted] is making an assumption as to where our leak is actually coming from because he has never been to our house to inspect In fact, in his email to us, dated May 19th, 2015, Mr [redacted] states, “where is the leak, what area of the house compared to roof?” So, he really has no idea what we have been dealing with After countless hours on our roof, we have finally found the leak It was discovered and verified by a professional roofing contractor who actually came to our house to inspect the roof Upon inspection of the turnback flashing, above the location of the leak, we discovered the following:a) A section of the turnback flashing had been caulked in the trough (which caused an obstruction) b) The turnback flashing contained a large accumulation of debris (shingle particles, dirt etc.) c) Expanding foam interfered with water flow d) The turnback “lip” had been flattened in sections. Therefore when it rained, the above mentioned foam, caulking, and debris caused water to backup and overflow the lipThe water then continued to flow through the nail holes that were installed to hold the flashing downThese nails are rusted and loose which further verifies the source of the leakPlease see the attached pictures. In summary, our siding/trim is not the source of the leakIf Mr [redacted] had provided the customer service required to uphold the contract warranty, we would not have the serious water damage to our home that we are now forced to deal with Also, because Mr [redacted] has not taken the time, nor the interest in our situation since we first contacted him in April 2015, the accumulation of water damage to our roof and home has made this situation even more difficult to assess.Regards [redacted] Regards, [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:We reject the response from [redacted] of Austin Roofing Contractors. For simplicity we would like to address some points made by Mr. [redacted] in his previous letter to us.1.      Mr. [redacted] stated:  “leaks that people chose to tolerate became a larger issue, like in this case”At no time whatsoever, did we “tolerate” our leak.  When the leak initially presented itself, in April 2015, we contacted Mr. [redacted] immediately.  We are still waiting to see him.  2.     Mr. [redacted] explains that we chose to “opt out of doing everything we suggest”.  This is in reference to wood repairs and chimney/siding repairs initially required on our home prior to the roof installation. Austin Roofing Contractors, did in fact replace the wood on both of our chimneys and also installed the ridge vent on the upper ridge of roof. Our original contract shows where we approved these repairs.  What Mr. [redacted] has forgotten is that in trying to be more competitive with another company we previously received a quote from,  he agreed to remove the ‘cost only’ of the repairs, from our invoice,  to oblige in being more price competitive, which did lower the price from $16,925 to $15,229.08.  However, all repairs were completed as per our contract, by Austin Roofing Contractors.  It is not accurate, therefore, for Mr. [redacted] to claim we “did not follow through with chimney/siding repairs”. To verify, please see the attached pictures.3.     Mr. [redacted] has surmised that our leaking issue is “simply siding and trim issues”.Mr. [redacted] is making an assumption as to where our leak is actually coming from because he has never been to our house to inspect.  In fact, in his email to us, dated May 19th, 2015, Mr. [redacted] states, “where is the leak, what area of the house compared to roof?”  So, he really has no idea what we have been dealing with. 4.      After countless hours on our roof, we have finally found the leak.  It was discovered and verified by a professional roofing contractor who actually came to our house to inspect the roof.  Upon inspection of the turnback flashing, above the location of the leak, we discovered the following:a)    A section of the turnback flashing had been caulked in the trough (which caused an obstruction) b)    The turnback flashing contained a large accumulation of debris (shingle particles, dirt etc.) c)    Expanding foam interfered with water flow d)    The turnback “lip” had been flattened in sections. Therefore when it rained, the above mentioned foam, caulking, and debris caused water to backup and overflow the lip. The water then continued to flow through the nail holes that were installed to hold the flashing down. These nails are rusted and loose which further verifies the source of the leak. Please see the attached pictures. In summary, our siding/trim is not the source of the leak. If Mr. [redacted] had provided the customer service required to uphold the contract warranty, we would not have the serious water damage to our home that we are now forced to deal with.  Also, because Mr. [redacted] has not taken the time, nor the interest in our situation since we first contacted him in April 2015, the accumulation of water damage to our roof and home has made this situation even more difficult to assess.Regards[redacted]

There has been a long dry season from the time we did the work in 2011 until most recently when the weather changed dramatically.  As most people know, the rain has come harder and in more volume than they have in years.  Leaks that people chose to tolerate became a larger issue, like in...

this case.  On the attached contract is an option for wood repairs to one of the chimneys along with other options.  The contract total shows $16,925.  These repairs and many other siding repairs were needed to keep water out of the house and preventing damage.  People don’t always take our advice and often opt out of doing everything we suggest.  In this case see the letter dated July 8, 2011 which is a letter of credit for not following through with the chimney/siding repairs.  Also see the attached payments which add up to $15,229.08 not the amount claimed by Mr. [redacted].   During the last couple of months we have witnessed time and again, rotted siding, loose boards, lack of caulk and paint that has cause leaks like this and there is no way to prevent leaking without maintaining these areas of homes.  The issue with Mr. [redacted] house that is causing the leaks is simply siding and trim issues.   The roof is not leaking!  See the condition of the house in 2011 in the photos attached.  Circled are key issue areas that should have been updated and rebuilt to prevent this leaking.  The choice not to maintain the siding and trim in multiple areas is the cause of leaking. Please dismiss this complaint as not valid and unrelated to the work we performed. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Thank you, [redacted]

In response to the complaint filed by Mr. [redacted], the customer is correct, we fell behind on our work and failed to communicate well with our customer.  The roof work has sense been completed in a very satisfactory way.  A lesson learned about ta[redacted] on too much.  Thanks to...
