Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Make note the Lexus of Bellevue was informed two days after vehicle was bought and taken to tire company notified owner of issue with tires The front of the vehicle as Solus KL225/60R99H M+S The rear of the vehicle as Solus TA225/R99H These tires aren’t even the same model number, and definitely not the same “tread design” Feel free to call Les Schwab, Discount tire or Good year and ask for the information and education you needConcerning this matter The below comes straight from KIA: WARNING Your vehicle is equipped with tires designed to provide safe ride and handling capabilityDo not use a size and type of tire and wheel that is different from the one that is originally installed on your vehicleIt can affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, which could lead to steering failure or rollover and serious injuryWhen replacing the tires, be sure to equip all four tires with the tire and wheel of the same size, type, tread, brand and load-carrying capacityIf you nevertheless decide to equip your vehicle with any tire/wheel combination not recommended by Kia for off road driving, you should not use these tires for highway driving The below comes from National Department of Transportation: Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with additional differentials and/or viscous couplings that are designed to allow momentary differences in wheel speeds when the vehicle turns a corner or temporarily spins a tireHowever, if the differentials or viscous couplings are forced to operate 100% of the time because of mismatched tires, they will experience excessive heat and unwarranted wear until they fail "Using "matched" tires means all four tires are the same brand, design and tread depthMixing tire brands, tread designs and tread depths may cause components in the vehicle's driveline to fail." This necessitates that four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles use tires that are very closely matchedThis is because different diameter tires roll a different number of times each mile as a result of the variations in their circumferencesTire diameter variations can be caused by accidentally using different sized tires, tires with different tread designs, tires made by different manufacturers, different inflation pressures or even tires worn to different tread depths Best Regards [redacted]

We have reviewed the claim and have reached out to the guest to get more detail on why the other facilities mentioned (discount tire, goodyear, les schwab) have said that the tires could cause powertrain damage over time The four tires that were originally on the vehicle were updated by the original manufacturer (Kumho) Suring our reconditioning of the vehicle, we noted that of the tires needed to be replaced and we put of the newer manufactured Kumho tires on the vehicle The tires are the exact same size as the tires that were on the vehicle and are the recommended replacements by the tire manufacturer Furthermore, the tire replacement was done prior to selling this vehicle and the guest who purchased the vehicle would have had ample time to inspect the tires and determine if he did not like the vehicle condition Once we have had a chance to discuss the concerns with the guest and the third party, we will make a decision on whether any further action is needed

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
Make note the Lexus of Bellevue was informed two days after vehicle was bought and taken to tire company notified owner of issue with tires.

The front of the vehicle as Solus KL21 225/60R17 99H M+S
The rear of the vehicle as Solus TA31 225/60 R17 99H
These tires aren’t even the same model number, and definitely not the same “tread design”
Feel free to call Les Schwab, Discount tire or Good year and ask for the information and education you need. Concerning this matter.

The below comes straight from KIA:

WARNING

Your vehicle is equipped with tires designed to provide safe ride and handling capability. Do not use a size and type of tire and wheel that is different from the one that is originally installed on your vehicle. It can affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, which could lead to steering failure or rollover and serious injury. When replacing the tires, be sure to equip all four tires with the tire and wheel of the same size, type, tread, brand and load-carrying capacity. If you nevertheless decide to equip your vehicle with any tire/wheel combination not recommended by Kia for off road driving, you should not use these tires for highway driving.

The below comes from National Department of Transportation:

Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with additional differentials and/or viscous couplings that are designed to allow momentary differences in wheel speeds when the vehicle turns a corner or temporarily spins a tire. However, if the differentials or viscous couplings are forced to operate 100% of the time because of mismatched tires, they will experience excessive heat and unwarranted wear until they fail.

"Using "matched" tires means all four tires are the same brand, design and tread depth. Mixing tire brands, tread designs and tread depths may cause components in the vehicle's driveline to fail."

This necessitates that four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles use tires that are very closely matched. This is because different diameter tires roll a different number of times each mile as a result of the variations in their circumferences. Tire diameter variations can be caused by accidentally using different sized tires, tires with different tread designs, tires made by different manufacturers, different inflation pressures or even tires worn to different tread depths.

Best Regards
