LF Sidonis Roofing Company Reviews (2)

11.11.16 [redacted] walked in Revdex.com and  brought photos and invoice dated 8.23.16.  She said she wants business to provide an invoice showing they purchase of 28 tiles as business used several tiles she already had in her garage. She would like business to provide proof of purchase for these additional 28 tiles. She also provided several photos of roof showing damage to tiles and or broken tiles. Revdex.com discussed dispute resolution services and she would like to move forward with mediation so she can ask her questions directly to business.

Mrs. [redacted]'s complaint is very hard to follow as she is referring to 3 different projects at 3 different points in time.     Concerning the 1993/94 project and her intermingled references to it, I will disregard in my response other than to note here that this is a...

tile roof that I did complete a project on over 20 years ago for Mrs. [redacted] and her late husband whom I considered not only a customer, but a friend.     The next project she references also has nothing to do with this complaint, noting however that her dates are wrong, we started on this project on 07/13/16 and finished on 07/21/16, a month prior to the project in question, not a week as she states.     As to the project in question, Mrs. [redacted] called me on or about 08/21/16 about a leak she stated the painter had found. She was panicking as she was about to go into the hospital and insisted I get right out there and "fix it". We came out on 08/22/16 to do that. She then stated that the painter had told her the roof needed an ice & water shield installed, behind a turret. I responded "maybe", but we don't know what it needs for sure until I get up there and take a good close look at everything as there is nothing obvious from here, noting that I doubted it would need the ice and water shield and that would be a last resort option, needed only if we can't find anything conclusive, as taking the tile up around this turret would be very expensive, in the neighborhood of $20,000.  I told her the only way to be 100% sure that we would catch the leak may be to do just that (take the tile in the entire area up and install the ice & water shield) but I first wanted to look at everything else closely before going there. She told me she was going into the hospital in the morning and to just fix it.     The day Mrs. [redacted] went into the hospital we came out and spent a couple of hours looking about the roof and found 3 likely culprits to the leak, responsible either individually or collectively. When I say likely, I would estimate about a 95% certainty, not however 100%, not conclusive and not "fixed". In my judgment I had seen enough to not proceed with removing the tile from around the turret for new underlayment (ice and water shield). I felt it a decision I could not make and decided to wait until I talked to Mrs. [redacted]. Knowing she was in for a surgery I decided to wait to hear from her. In the interim I made temporary repairs to all three areas of the roof so that it wouldn't leak again, with 95% certainty anyway, until proper repairs could be made.     On Sunday 09/11/16 Mrs. [redacted] called me and asked if I had fixed her leak. I told her we had started but stopped and I informed her of the reasons we didn't proceed with removing any tile for new ice and water shield, and of the information in the above paragraph, and also advised her that I was not comfortable taking the tile up when there were 3 other obvious potential culprits, those being 1) that the chimney (which is an internal component to the roof) was in very bad shape and needed at least tuck pointing, possibly more. 2) There were small cracks in two of the copper lock seams of the copper behind the turret. 3) The caulking of the finial at the top of turret was open. My recommendation would be to make these repairs before taking the tile up being aware that this is not a 100% fix. She became quite agitated and stated, "I am very disappointed with you, I told you to just fix it". I told her, OK [redacted], I am sorry I just wanted to be sure how you wanted to proceed. We will be out tomorrow to finish. I took that to mean she had accepted my recommendation.     On Tuesday 09/13/16 I spoke with Mrs. [redacted] in person, feeling I hadn't gotten my point across about this being a 95% likely fix, and reiterated that to her. Reminding her that although not a 100% repair it is hard to not repair the obvious is[redacted]s before proceeding any further. She asked how long she should wait before having the painter finish and I told her I was pretty certain, well I'm 95% sure we got the leak and that she could finish as soon as we were done.     We finished the work on 09/17/16. I presented an invoice to her on 09/29/16 which she paid, and then cancelled the check two hours later. The next day I called to ask her why, she stated I charged her too much and that I hadn't even put a ladder up to the interior ceiling to "feel" it to see if it was wet. She asked me to come over and do that which I did, and it was dry. She asked me about two line items on the invoice that she didn't understand, concerning the copper repair. I explained them to her. She told me that she wasn't going to pay the bill, she didn't owe me anything because I didn't give her a written estimate, and that in fact I should reimburse her the total amount of the last 07/13/16 project invoice she paid as well, as all of that should have been included in the project we did over 20 years ago, she said. She then offered to pay me $1300, $1600, and then $5000. Now $1800. I told her I could accept only the amount of the invoice. She was really throwing it against wall. She briefly came to her senses and wrote me a replacement check, why I have no idea the way she was talking. The following Monday she tried to cancel that one as well.     Her claim that I harassed her for four hours is just ridiculous. I was there for about an hour and fifteen minutes, mostly checking her ceiling for her, moving tile around in her garage, sweeping the floor, removing leaves from her gutters and sweeping them up as well, all with her, in her presence, at her request and after she had paid me. I have to question her motives for such a crazy statement.     In addition, her statement that she had an estimate for the chimney work from some company “prior to me beginning work” is almost as ridiculous. If that was true then why did she tell me to "fix it" at least twice, and once in a text, and why was I even there to begin with? It should be noted this company she speaks of is a friend of the family. Also notable is that even if this $1880 estimate is true, the chimney work was but a part of this project.     I feel terrible for both of us over this situation and I do understand that Mrs. [redacted] feels that she was wronged somehow, however she was not. Why she feels this way and acts the way she did I can only speculate, which is not appropriate here. We did excellent, best in the business work for her at a fair price. We are far from the most expensive in this line of work and we are not the cheapest either. She made clear to us that she was selling the house and didn't want to spend any more money on the house than needed to sell it. When she told me this I made clear to her that I will do whatever she asks, however what ever I do will be done right, no problems to pass on to the new owner.     I believe we delivered as agreed and cannot grant her outrageous settlement offer.
