Dear [redacted] ,This in response to your Revdex.com complaint in regards to the service of your Honda Civic. You initially brought your vehicle in on December 18th, for a check engine light This was causing your vehicle to be difficult to start and cut out on hard acceleration Our technician found that the necessary repairs consisted of replacing the cylinder head At that time you were recommended by [redacted] to do those repairs along with other recommended repairs consisting of replacement all four struts, repair of oil leaks, and fluid services. Also during your initial visit on December 18th, [redacted] did recommend that you replace the lower engine as well- with nearly 252,miles on the current engine, it would make sense to replace the entire unit If you were having issues with the head, the possibility of issues with the lower engine is likely This is the reason [redacted] recommended a good used engine Again this discussion occurred prior to the radiator cap incident We apologize for the incident that occurred with regards to the radiator cap As offered by [redacted] we will reimburse you for the diagnosis charge of $ When your car arrived here, we started it up and ran it There was no knock and no apparent problem We did a full inspection and determined coolant was leaking between the #and #cylinders We removed the cylinder head inspected both the head and the engine block for any excessive warpage Both were within the Honda specifications We have proceeded to replace the cylinder head gasket, head bolts and thermostat With this complete inspection, it appears the engine did not get hot for very long.Although we completely understand your frustration with the situation, please understand that we are unable to compensate you with the engine Just like warranties under Honda or any other manufacture for that point, if a problem occurs with the engine they have to repair what has failed on the unitThank you, [redacted] , Service Director

Hi ***,We have since addressed the issue directly with the customer. We apologize for the delay in response to update the Revdex.com on the progress of the issue. We never received further notice from the Revdex.com that a required response was to be reported since the certified letter we received was directly from Mr*** himself. Below you will find a summary of the actions that have been taken to address Mr***'s concerns.Thank you,*** ***Guest RelationsHonda of El Cajon Date: 1/28/
Re: *** ***
I received his
certified letter on Monday January 11th 2016. Mr*** came to the dealership on Saturday
Jan 16th around 11amHe started the car ands said there was
excessive smoke out the tailpipe and left the car hereMr*** and I left
voicemails back and forth on the 18thFinally we spoke and I
invited him downI met him at the car and he had brought someone with himHe
had expressed concern about what he called smoke out the tailpipeI explained
to him that it was condensation and if he drove it around the block and got the
exhaust heated up that it would be goneHe and the other person had the hood
up and were inspecting for 10-mins*** drove it with the friend and came
back in 6-minutes, got out of the car, looked at the exhaust pipe (that had
nothing coming out of it at this time like I explained) and he said to me “It
looks like you were right”He then asked if I would clear the check engine
light because he said it would run better for awhileI agreed and took it in
and cleared the ECMI gave it to him, he said thank youWe shook hands and he
drove off with the car
About mins later I received a voicemail from Mr***
saying he made it back to Chula Vista
and that it ran goodHe said it “ran almost perfectly, except for that miss
(which what the original concern he came in for) but that’s another story”He
said that the “oil additive he had been using must have saved the engine.”
Mr*** did tell me that this car had been sitting for months
or so
Sincerely,
*** ***

ID#[redacted] In response to the above complaint. We have completely removed the customers information from our system. However, the customer may receive mailers from American Honda which are generated by American Honda but are made to look as though they are from Tipton Honda. If customer is...

registered with owners.honda.com, she can set her dealer preferences as well as contact preferences. I will not be contacting the customer with a response, I feel that this would only upset her more since she asked not to be ever contacted again by us.

In response to the complaint we received on the above referenced customer the issue has already been addressed back in mid-August.  Upon reviewing our contracts that Mr. [redacted] had signed at the time of purchase- there are several areas in which it is clear that there is a separate cost...

for the alarm system.  As you will find attached, Mr. [redacted] acknowledged these charges by signing each of these documents, also initialing next to the amount on the sales contract itself.  Honda of El Cajon did not perform any “sneaky business practices” that the customer is implying. We clearly review all paperwork and charges with all of our customers, so that there is no question as to where extra charges incur. We have spoken with the Mr. [redacted] directly and addressed his concerns of shady tactics that he feels were used.  As per goodwill Honda of El Cajon refunded the amount of the alarm system plus tax directly to the financial institution that the vehicle is being financed through.  The check was cashed on August 25, 2017.  The issue has been addressed and case should be closed. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.  Sincerely, [redacted]Customer RelationsHonda of El Cajon

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. As stated previously, one of my concerns is that car repair shops know how to adjust things just to patch up problems that they created themselves.I drove this car into this dealership in better working condition than what they returned to me.This car used to drive very well at 65 MPH as long as I did not over accelerate, now it does not. While driving home, after the car really warmed up, and after I had made the phone calls to [redacted] (thinking that the car was fixed), the car started backfiring and almost stalling on the freeway.  Unfortunately, I should have waited until I got all the way home with no problem and then make the phone calls;  it was just too soon to make the phone to Mr. [redacted], because right afterward the car started running horrifically. The RPM Indicator was higher than normal for the driving speed, and it still is.  I had to drive at 40 MPH and force the car engine at its high RPM; the car sounded like the engine was being "forced to drive".  I suspected that the Tipton would do something to patch the car up and just get it out of their in an attempt to avoid taking responsibility for the engine that they caused to extremely overheat.Mr. [redacted] claims that they "Checked" Tolerances to make sure the engine was not harmed by the overheating, yet they never stated what tolerances they checked, or what the tolerance values were.To check tolerances, they would have needed to take the engine apart and measure the pistons width, the wear on the piston rings, camshaft bearings and bushings and excessive wear on the camshaft as wells as the crankshaft, possibly even more tolerance checks that needed to be done that I am not aware of.  Mr. [redacted] never provided proof that they checked the above tolerances, with calipers and measuring devices.I showed Mr. [redacted] how there was a lot of pressure coming out of the oil filler cap opening which is a sign of light "Blow By" where the cylinders got worn in a concave fashion and were no longer straight, that pressure was not present before as well. The car is worse than when I drove it in, and it is not repaired, I cannot accept this as dismissed or repaired in a satisfactory manner.

Dear [redacted],This in response to your Revdex.com complaint in regards to the service of your 2002 Honda Civic. You initially brought your vehicle in on December 18th, 2015 for a check engine light.  This was causing your vehicle to be difficult to start and cut out on hard...

acceleration.    Our technician found that the necessary repairs consisted of replacing the cylinder head.  At that time you were recommended by [redacted] to do those repairs along with other recommended repairs consisting of replacement all four struts, repair of oil leaks, and fluid services. Also during your initial visit on December 18th, [redacted] did recommend that you replace the lower engine as well- with nearly 252,000 miles on the current engine, it would make sense to replace the entire unit.  If you were having issues with the head, the possibility of issues with the lower engine is likely.    This is the reason [redacted] recommended a good used engine.  Again this discussion occurred prior to the radiator cap incident.  We apologize for the incident that occurred with regards to the radiator cap.  As offered by [redacted] we will reimburse you for the diagnosis charge of $115.00.  When your car arrived here, we started it up and ran it.  There was no knock and no apparent problem.  We did a full inspection and determined coolant was leaking between the #2 and #3 cylinders.  We removed the cylinder head inspected both the head and the engine block for any excessive warpage.  Both were within the Honda specifications.  We have proceeded to replace the cylinder head gasket, head bolts and thermostat.  With this complete inspection, it appears the engine did not get hot for very long.Although we completely understand your frustration with the situation, please understand that we are unable to compensate you with the engine.  Just like warranties under Honda or any other manufacture for that point, if a problem occurs with the engine they have to repair what has failed on the unit. Thank you, [redacted], Service Director

RE:
Invoice [redacted]

Dear Mr. [redacted], this is to confirm
the receipt of your letter dated December 30th, 2015.  Please be advised that a certified letter (0710
0040 0293 9566) was sent to you on
December 26th, 2015.  Your letter immediately brings forth
conflicting and contrary information about my car that I brought in to your
dealership for inspection. You state: “This
was causing your vehicle to be difficult to start and cut out on hard acceleration.”

The vehicle was NEVER hard to start
as noted in my first letter to you, the only time that it cut out was on hard acceleration
after 60 mph.  You are misrepresenting
the facts about a “hard to start” car that was not an issue.

After the radiator
cap incident, [redacted] made an attempt to convince me to replace the whole engine
for $3,600.00, knowing that Tipton may have ruined my engine.  You mentioned you checked the “Tolerances,”
what Tolerances and what were the readings? Did you do a metal stress test to
determine if the engine casing had not been overheated? I doubt that. While the
rings and the pistons “may be” in the correct range for the engine to work
temporarily, the fact that the piston sleeves may have expanded due to the heat
may still cause problems in a few months.

[redacted] promised to
return my car to its preexisting condition. My car engine had NEVER been
overheated before, and it has not been returned to its preexisting condition as
promised, to return it to its prior condition it would have to be an engine
that has not been overheated.

While the car engine
does have a lot of miles, we maintained the car very well and added engine
additives that would make the engine last longer as stated before the car ran
great under 60 MPH. We could have used for many more years, but now I feel that
the life expectancy of the car engine has been further reduced due to
your mechanics
negligence that may have weakened my car engine further.

I have a video where
we got off the off ramp to investigate why the car was heavily smoking which shows
the radiator cap lodged between the Engine Hood and the car frame.  I have to reject your claim that the vehicle is
repaired and in good working order and maintain my claim with the Revdex.com.

Sincerely
