Liberty Roofing & Construction Reviews (1)

Review: This may be a little lengthy, but I start off in this letter by giving you some history with reference to the below request and asking for your assistance regarding the same. My dad[redacted] owns a home in [redacted] He has been in need of a new roof for about two (2) years. Weve tried a few programs (my sister [redacted] and I, [redacted]) which assist senior citizens, but have come up empty so far. On May 12, 2014, my sister received a fax from a roofing company by the name of: Liberty Roofing & Construction current advertised location: Hackensack, New Jersey, however, I have a business address as: [redacted] telephone number: [redacted]. She called Liberty and spoke with a person by the name of [redacted] informed her that he had a couple of workers in the area of my dads residence and would have them do a free consultation. [redacted] called my dad and informed him that Liberty Roofing would be coming by to conduct a free consultation and give him a price quote for repairing the roof. Thats all they were supposed to do!! However, when they showed up, my dad took them to look over the damaged roof and a person by the name of [redacted] is also from Liberty Roofing & Construction) verbally gave my dad a price quote. The price [redacted] gave my dad was exactly $4,600.00. My dad thought this was an awesome price for the roof to be repaired and said yes, fix it. [redacted] then said he would need $2,300.00 as a down payment so work could begin for repairing the roof. My dad told him he had to wait until one of his daughters returned to the house after work, ([redacted] and [redacted]). He told [redacted] that [redacted] handled all of his financial transactions for him and that she would be home around 3:15-3:30pm that afternoon. [redacted] then said to him, Oh, dont worry about it, Ill take you. So my dad thought this was okay and agreed to let [redacted] take him to the bank. [redacted] took my dad to the bank, and received a payment in the amount of $2,300.00. [redacted] then brought my dad (half-way home, --- meaning he dropped him off on the corner of his street and told my dad he would be back to start repairs on the roof). [redacted] did show up the next day and did a patch-up job in a couple of places in the attic. [redacted] told my dad he had to order supplies and would be back the next day to start work on the job. [redacted] never showed up the next day or even a few days after that. I called [redacted] and asked what the delay was and [redacted] stated that he had been working on another job in the area and that he would be by later in the day. He never showed up, but stated again that there was additional work which needed to be done on the roof which would require additional funds. He said that our chimney was about to collapse and it needed to be taken down and re-built, and the roof was damaged to the point that no-one would be able to stand on the roof to repair it. I reminded [redacted] that the repairs still had not been completed for the first quote given to my dad in the amount of $4,600.00 for which $2,300.00 had been paid. Im not a construction worker or roof repair person, but I do know that the work that Liberty Roofing & Construction performed did not equal the amount of $2,300.00. Also, I tried on at least 10-12 different occasions to reach out to Liberty Roofing, (as did my sister) and we were given the run-around, by [redacted] and [redacted]. I can say for sure that this would not have happened if my sister or I had been home because we would have insisted on a proposal from Liberty Roofing before any work had started. When I did ask [redacted] for a proposal for the work completed by him so far, he responded by saying that the work was done so there was no need for a proposal at this time.My purpose of this letter is first, my dad wants his money returned or the roof fixed for the price that he was given when [redacted] first showed up at his house. (I would prefer to have the money returned because I dont trust that Liberty Roofing & Construction would do a professional job at this point. I know that my dad took a chance by going to the bank and withdrawing the money, however, Im looking at this from the following points of view: First: My dad is a senior citizen (76 years old) with a leak in his roof that just happened to have started leaking in his bedroom a few days before; Second: Liberty Roofing & Construction (specifically [redacted] and [redacted]) took advantage of an elderly person who desperately wanted/needed his roof repaired; and Third: Total unprofessionalism on the part of Liberty Roofing & Construction because they thought this was just going to go away.I would appreciate any help you can give to my dad to retrieve his money or to have his roof repaired properly by Liberty Roofing & Construction. (By the way, my dad feels really bad that he fell for this scheme and became a victim of a senior citizen scam). I do have various telephone numbers for this company and the original fax letter sent over to my sister at her job (attached).I can be reached ([redacted] @ [redacted]; or my sister [redacted] @ [redacted]).Thank you and I hope you can assist with this matter.Desired Settlement: Would like my settlement for the amount which was taken from my dad, $2,300.00
