First I do want to apologize for the late replyIn regards to the matter involving *** ***, I included an attached document explaining the situation
*** *** was in the office and sat with one of our tax preparers on Feb 19,
Because
everyone's situation is different and certain things would come in an interview that would fully affect the complexity and cost of their returnTo provide and give an accurate quote on the price, we ask them to sit through the whole process"If at any time they are not happy with our service or the price they have no obligation to file with us" This means no payment would have been needed unless the client would want us to go ahead and fileThis almost exact statement is told to every customer
That being said, in the case involving *** ***; she called back in the afternoon requesting the same information that she was requesting here in her complaintAn appointment was made to sit down and speaking with her
Before I had an opportunity to speak with her I reviewed her returnIn doing so I noticed, Multiple W-2's, income generated from self-employment, along with education interest deduction, and finally a Tax CreditAs we allocate price based on forms, it justifies the price with each extra information and forms we had to generate to do a proper returnHowever we like to take into consideration different situations on each individualFor example with Alexandra, Her self-employment income was provided on a 1099-misc in box These can only be accounted for by completing a business returnIn her case the employment income doesn't 100% justify the cost of completing a full business returnBecause the best way to allocate price is by forms, the only way to correct is to manly adjust the priceThe Preparer that did the interview process is in her first year, and it slipped her mind about how we adjust the price in those situationsThat being said, her return is not a simple return what so ever with all the related documentation needed to fileAlso there is liability associated with various different credits, one of those she did qualify for
When finally meeting with *** *** that very afternoon, I did explain the complexity of her return, and why it was priced the way it wasI also explained that normally we try to apply a discount when individuals have those types of business income, I then refunded to her card $100, bringing her total down to $which is a fair price for the type of return we had completed for herI explained that refunded to a card may take a few days to processShe was satisfied when she left the store that afternoon
A few days later she explained that she did not receive her payment yet, so I contacted the company that I run my card machine throughThey informed me it was released to her bank a few days prior, however with the weekend and holiday the banks where a little farther behindShe called the day after informing me that it was deposited into her account
Our price for completing tax returns is competitive to other surrounding tax preparations in the area, in most cases in these situations cheaper because of the way that has to be filed
