Never take an Ambulance in Jamaica
If you MUST, DEFINITELY NEVER USE LIFE CALL or they sometimes disguise their name as Med X Medical. They evidently are not regulated by any governing agency so they are free to rip everyone off. We unfortunately found out too late, after already getting scammed. They are HAPPY to bill your insurance company. No money needed up front, "mahn". What should have been $200 max, was $2800.00 for a one way 30 mile ride. We paid a cab company $200 for the ride back to the resort. We are still trying to sort it out with the insurance company because they paid $800(which was robbery) but we are disputing the $2000 and are writing to the Jamaican government and the Director of Pan American Health Organization; which is the agency that I think is supposed to manage them(for what good that will do). So, we will see. But, I hope this post and all the others like this one will help save someone else from the same illegal scam.

This Life Call Ambulance company in Jamaica is a SCAM! My husband went to the nurse at our resort because he was having chest pains and his blood pressure was high. She highly recommended he go to the hospital and that she would call the ambulance to take us. The ambulance guy told us it will cost $500 for the trip to the hospital. He handed me a form to fill out where $500 was written in next to where it said "partial payment" . I read the paper before signing and asked the guys why it said partial payment and he said they just have 1 standard form and assured us that the total bill was $500 (which we paid that night at the hospital with our credit card) I have 4 witnesses to him saying that would be the total charge! They sat my husband in the back of the ambulance; never took his BP again, no IV, no meds, NOTHING. He might as well have sat in the front seat or just called a taxi. We get home from vacation and one week later get a bill from Morganville, NJ on behalf of Life Call for another $2,055 charge! That is a total of $2,555 they are trying to charge us for a 1 way ride to the hospital with NO medical treatment, help the bill at the hospital was a thousand less than that and they actually ran test on him! This is a scam to take the American tourists' money. You know damn well that they aren't charging a local resident $2,555 to drive them one way to the hospital with no medical treatment. I WILL BE TAKING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THIS COMPANY!

I had the same thing happen to me and they've charged the exact same amount! How did this turn out for you?

My husband and I while in Jamaica got ill and the hotel nurse call an ambulance because they said I needed oxygen so took me one hour and ten minutes away. Charging $800 at that time. When we got home I got another bill for $2282.50.
We have not heard back after filing with our insurance.
Also, the hospital Hospiten in Montego Bay got us for almost $20,000 in bill for my husband and I and we are still fighting those bills.
The hotel was not helpful charging two more days since they said we could not fly home until we got approval from the hospital.
This whole trip was a nightmare.
Has anyone else had this experience?

We had nearly the same experience when it was suspected my husband had heart attack 3 days earlier. Ambulance from Negril to Montego Bay charged $800 and we just got the itemized bill for another $2265. We also had billing issues with Hospiten (bill was over $20,000). They charged us for too many days in ICU and tests that weren't performed. We think we have that one straightened out but "nightmare" is the correct adjective here.

Review: I was taken by ambulance to the hospital for difficulty breathing. [redacted] recommended I go to the hospital. The charge for the ambulance ride was 2,090 which I was never made aware of before getting into the ambulance otherwise I would have taken a taxi. The charge is more than 2 times the amount I would have paid in the United States. I feel the charge is excessive and I cannot afford to pay this expense and my insurance company will not pay for the expenses. I feel the charges were made up all I had in the ambulance was oxygen and I should not be responsible for these bogus chargesDesired Settlement: I've paid $300 and do not feel I should pay $2,000 for an ambulance ride for which the only service that was given was oxygen

I've just received a bill which I thought was paid for, how did you get on with there claim. Sounds like the same thing is happening to a lot of people being misinformed.
