gave eye exam and script. *** script was way off when I ordered glasses. I couldn't see, vomiting bad headaches, etc.
I have many documents and wrote a letter complaint that I will get to you when you ask for them. *** also gave my husband eye exam and he ordered glasses. He couldn't see with his glasses. *** would not give us a refund on my husbands glasses.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Case is being handled by another organization: Consumer Protection Division

Desired Outcome

I look for a refund of all charges this has caused me. Husband *** eye exam refund and glasses cost refunded. My eye exam refunded, cost of going to another eye doctor for eye exam, refund of lenses because where I purchased my new glasses and lenses with *** script were wrong and couldn't wear, so since I went to a different eye doctor I had to get a remake of my lenses. I am looking for a refund in the amount of $ ***.

We are so sorry to hear of *** accusation that Dr. *** is unprofessional and should go back to school to learn how to give eye exams. Up until we received this complaint, Dr. *** felt that he had a great relationship with *** and her late husband, ***, going clear back to his first visit with them in ***. He always enjoyed seeing *** at our local college events, he was a great guy and we are very sorry for *** sudden and devastating loss of ***. It's hard to imagine the difficulty in losing someone as vibrant and loved as ***. We are truly sorry for her loss and many of us at Lifetime Vision Center will miss seeing him around our beloved ***.
We have reviewed *** letter and request for $***. Although we understand *** frustration at the situation and sympathize with her, we are unable to pay her the requested amount for the reasons stated below. However, we would be glad to send *** a prescription from Dr. *** with *** preferred lens powers that Dr. *** prescribed. Hopefully, allowing them to remake *** lenses for no charge.
Reasons that our very generous glasses refund and remake policies cannot apply to this situation:
1) Refractions for both *** and ***, using Lifetime Vision Center's state of the art refraction technology, showed excellent 20/15 vision through the prescribed lenses at their respective visits in ***. *** report of, "bad hurting eyes that gave me sick vomiting headaches, not good vision to see out of the lenses, felt weird and awful to look out the lenses and blurred vision", confirms that the lenses were likely not made to Lifetime Vision Center's exacting standards. *** admittedly purchased glasses at an optical shop other than Lifetime Vision Center. We can never warrant glasses that were made somewhere else, because we can't control the quality. In our office we use only state of the art, premium quality materials that many others do not. Also, precision measurements by highly trained staff are needed to perfectly align progressive multifocal lenses. We have no way of knowing how an optical shop trains their staff or how good their measurements were. Since we cannot control the quality of the materials, the training level of staff or the precision of the measurements from another company, we cannot warrant their glasses. There is just too much of a chance that the glasses were not made to our standards. This seems especially likely in this case, since *** had better than 20/20 vision through the prescribed lenses during the refraction tests at her *** exam.
2) *** also believes that the prescription for spectacle lenses she got from Lifetime Vision Center on *** was significantly different from the prescription she got from Dr. *** on ***. This is understandable because Dr. *** writes her prescriptions in "plus cylinder" form and Lifetime Vision Center uses "minus cylinder" form. The lens manufacturing labs automatically convert plus cylinder to minus cylinder when they see a (+) symbol in front of the number in the "cylinder" column of a prescription. Dr. *** prescription also doesn't contain any information in the "cylinder" or "axis" cells for the right eye (OD). I don't know if that is an omission error, but is not standard. Normally, if there is no cylinder in a prescription, there is the word "sphere" in the cylinder cell. After conversion to minus cylinder form is taken into account, the prescriptions are very similar. Dr. *** gave slightly less near "add" power (+2.00 instead of +2.50) because that is a standard adjustment to make when a patient reports having the kind of new glasses adaptation symptoms that *** reports.
3) *** glasses were delivered on *** and he passed away on *** and we never heard any complaint from him. We pride ourselves on being extremely easy to work with and have the best in the business guarantees. We will always remake or refund lenses within 90 days, giving our patients plenty of time to try out their glasses. We would have been happy to help *** be satisfied with his glasses, but cannot offer a refund on glasses for deceased patients that never reported any problems to us.
4) We normally do not give refunds on services and certainly do not give refunds on other doctor's services. Doctors cannot have a policy of paying for patients to get a second opinion, even if they move away.
We hope this helps clear up why we simply cannot have policies that pay refunds for: Glasses ordered from another business, deceased patients that did not report a problem to us, or services from another business.
We are truly sorry for *** situation and because we understand what a difficult time it is for her, we are sending her a check for $*** to help her financially. We are also sending a new spectacle prescription from Dr. *** as described above.
We wish the best to *** and her family.
