Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in...

reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

This business is not being truthful about not having my information. The day I went in to get my things, I had to sign a document that had my name and address. Also logic tells you they would have not released my belongings if my ID didn’t match the name the storage unit was under.I went in to their offices on Monday asking for a copy of the document I had to sign before retrieving my belongings.  First the girl assisting me said she didn’t have anything under my name. I, of course, refused the answer. She went in the back, and came back saying she didn’t have access to my files. I asked what does that even mean, and if they didn’t keep records of their costumers. She then went on to say that since my things were not being kept there anymore she didn’t have access to it because all documents were sent to my landlord. This makes no sense because why would they send documents to my landlord; second even if that were true any business would have kept copies for their records. Furthermore, while talking to this girl I saw the owner, and I ask her to please tell him I would like to speak to him. She gave a very rude and answer saying that I don’t need to speak to him, that what she said that’s what it was. I had to ask her three more times to ask him, every time met with a rude answer. The owner was behind their counter and she literately only had to turn and ask him, although I know he saw me and could hear me. He declined to speak to me, and said he was in the middle of a meeting- mind you I could see him standing-not in a meeting- through the glass.I called my landlord, and of course they confirmed they did not receive any documents. Which is further prove this company is lying and trying to hide documents to not take responsibility.  -I included a receipt along this response-

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Through the receipts we found [redacted] records - that being said - Liffey Van Lines, Inc were hired by [redacted] landlord to move her belongings. This is why [redacted] did not appear in Liffey Van Lines records as she did not hire Liffey Van Lines. The claimant indicated that a fee of $925 was paid (we have no record of that) The moving fee is paid by the lanlord as is the first 30 days of storage. Breda (not Brita) from the storage company New York S. Storage (different company)issued the receipts for handling and storage after the 30 days which the landlord paid for - again the amount does not match $925.00Liffey Van Lines inventory  was checked in and out of storage and all items collected were released from storage the unit was vacated. I understand the frustration of not being able to locate some of the items and if for some reason the items showed up at our facility [redacted] would be my first call. As our storage units are all room lock and key this will not be the case as we run many checks not to not have this happen including as already stated an inventory check in/check out.As [redacted] stated we recommended checking with the landlord to see if items were left in the apartment - another recommendation would be to check with the Marshall's office for a copy of his inventory as legally he would have been the first person to the enter the apartment and his inventory should reflect what was there prior the to the moving company or anyone else accessing your apartment.I do hope [redacted] finds her items but I do know Liffey Van Lines do not have possession of them.

Review: I recently moved locally in NYC from one apartment to another apartment. We submitted our original claim form with additional insurance. A representative got my wife on the phone and talked her out of it - saying it would be too expensive to get insurance, that even 'if the truck got on fire' you wouldn't receive that much back and so we should just go with the basic insurance and not waste our money. Well, since we were set to move the next day - she submitted as he suggested (he pressured her to get it in before he left at 4p or our move was at risk!). We then had a $1600 TV break - which basic insurance covers 60c/lb. We got $39 back for it. The individual we dealt with will no longer call us back - the company says they have no incentive to help suggest changes in insurance and they did nothing wrong. The fact that the individual we used won't respond to us should tell you all you need to know about this incredibly shady moving company. We had several other things beaten up in the move - though that is typical - this is my 5th move within NYC. But a TV breaking? And of course the company assured my wife nothing ever breaks. Wish we had more time to vet these guys - we didn't - we were under some time pressure and made the wrong call with a very shady company who is arrogant and abusive over the phone. Don't get scammed by these guys.Desired Settlement: We would like to be reimbursed for our TV.

Response:

To Whom it concerns, On June [redacted] 2015 Liffey Van Lines, Inc moved [redacted] had called us just a couple of days prior to book this move as her original moving company could not accommodate the move date that she was requesting and as it was the building she was moving in to referred us I was more than happy to help and make the move happen on her specific move date. It is our standard practice to have a representative from our company stop by the origin address so as to as our customer's moving needs which Liffey did at short notice. The next step is that once a customer agrees to the guaranteed price quoted I send a contract to secure the move date - our contract is detailed in as far as the service we provide from the addresses where we are moving, to the amount of packing along with the most important part of our contract which is the insurance section. In this section it is clear that one option must be signed: option one is basic coverage which is 60 cents per lb per article which is what the customer chose. Option 2 is an additional cost - The rate is $10 per $1,000 of Valuation - The amount of coverage which should be taken should reflect the entire shipment and as [redacted] Stated and as I explained this number should be thought of in terms of "if the truck got on fire" and everything was destroyed how much would it cost you to replace everything. When I Initially received the contract back from [redacted] she had indicated she would like to purchase insurance in the amount of $10,000 for a charge of $100 so as I have been doing for the last 10 years with Liffey I reached out to her as it is important to me that all customer's understand what they are signing. [redacted] stated that the value of their shipment was somewhere between 30-40K to which I stressed the importance of fully covering the shipment. In no way would I talk any customer out of purchasing additional insurance (why would I) but I certainly would not want any customer I deal with not to understand what they are signing and have an issue with an insurance company after if they did not sign paperwork correctly. Just to be clear the additional cost for $40,000 of coverage would have been $400 which [redacted] felt was better in her pocket. Regarding the damage - I am truly sorry as I stated to [redacted] for the damage if caused by Liffey. The crew were not aware of the damage when they left the apartment and [redacted] & [redacted] were so happy with the move which was reflected with the gratuity they gave the crew which I dont believe they would have got if several other items were beaten up as stated by [redacted]. I answered all calls after becoming aware of the situation and if for some reason I was out of the office I called right back upon my return even if one of the messages were "that I better call back or else". There is more staff in our office that can answer calls/questions/concerns and I dont believe there was no body here that was not able to assist. some things I would like to point out in relation to the customer's statement. (1) purchase price of TV was $1,399.00 and the tv Liffey was said to have broken cost $1,600 - is it the same TV? (2) I would never tell any customer that Liffey Van Lines never break any thing - If I were the customer and heard that I would cancel my contract right away - of course accidents can happen and Yes Liffey Van Lines,Inc unfortunately have had damage in the past which is another reason we offer insurance - Yes for the most part we dont have any issues and everything goes smooth. (3) [redacted] criticized my way of explaining insurance that there should at least be something in writing stating just how little one would receive on option 1 basic insurance - it is clearly stated under this option 60 Cents per pound per article with an over exaggerated example stating that if a couch weighs 100lbs and it breaks it would only be covered for $60.00 So closing statement I am not sure what is shady about our company - again if the damage was caused by our company I am sorry for this but I certainly will not commit insurance fraud. In the past if an incident occurred I always speak with the owner as I always try to make right with all of our customer's which is why Liffey has been in business since 1973 (same location- not shady and not hiding from anyone and my aim is to be as transparent as possible with everything we do here) If anyone needs to discuss the matter I am available on ###-###-#### or can be reached by email [redacted] Thank you, [redacted]
